I stopped by Mattie’s Pancake House today 2/15/2026 while passing through, and honestly, it turned out to be one of those memorable roadside gems you’re so glad you didn’t miss. The place was super busy when I arrived there were people waiting outside, which is always a good sign but since I was dining solo, I got seated right away with no wait at all.
The atmosphere inside is warm, cozy, and welcoming, with really cool décor featuring cars and car photos that give the restaurant personality and a fun, nostalgic vibe. It feels comfortable rather than fancy, the kind of place where you can relax, sip your coffee, and enjoy your food without feeling rushed.
I ordered the shrimp and Swiss cheese omelette with jalapeño, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. The portion was generous, and it came out piping hot and surprisingly fast considering how busy they were. The coffee was amazing too rich, fresh, and exactly what you want with a hearty breakfast.
What really stood out was the service. The servers were attentive, friendly, and on top of everything despite the crowd. They made sure coffee stayed filled, checked in at the right moments, and kept things moving smoothly without making it feel rushed or chaotic.
Another big plus: the prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and portion sizes. It’s rare to find a place that balances great food, fast service, cozy ambiance, and affordability this well.
Overall, I’d easily rate it around 4.5 stars. If you’re driving along Highway 101 or anywhere near Brookings, this spot is absolutely worth the stop. It’s busy for a reason great food, great vibe, and great service all in one place.

The Bacon was delicious, cooked nice and crispy. I had the senior breakfast, still a lot of food. My husband had the spinach omelet. The red potatoes were delicious . As busy as they were our coffee cups were always full.

Ok we went here from a short drive from gold beach as the reviews seemed pretty good but unfortunately it was very lack luster across the board we ordered pancakes with a slab of ham steak for one meal and it was just not where it should have been the ham steak was almost cold and the pancakes were not fluffy at all and over cooked to the point of tasting like charred toast and this order came out in less then 5 minutes after placing it . I had a Malibu chicken sandwich which came about a minute after the pancakes to both our surprise and the server suggested it and said it was very good and that came with a slice of ham on it with cheese . Upon receiving it the sandwich was unseasoned and fully disassembled on the plate and had a processed frozen chicken patty that tasted like it was cooked in the same oil as the fish and chips must have been and had zero sauces on it except a small side of mayo to put on as you assembled it with probably 3-4 day old soggy chewy old onions to top it off .and the slice of ham was actually a extremely thin slice of Canadian bacon which was 2$ more for that option ?? The fries and ranch were good and pretty tasty but overall we ate less than a 1/4 of ours meals and was out $30 bucks and pretty let down as we thought it would be better from the reviews but lesson learned …good reviews doesn’t always mean guaranteed good food every time. They were very busy and nearly at full capacity but still expected better .

Definitely EAT here. We came across it because it seemed like the only place open early. The food was truly great. I had the Augie and I definitely recommend it. The diner was super cute and felt so welcoming. The service was some of the best. Friendly, helpful and over the top. Do yourself a favor and come here!

I was here for breakfast around 6:30 am on a Wednesday in June 2025 – my wife and my sister in law visited here multiple mornings in February 2025 (picture is from that time). The place is quite busy during weekends and tourist season, one of the reasons we haven’t been there more often (don’t want to stand in line). The place is great, modern and clean, the staff during our visits outstanding, and the food did not disappoint at all.
When visiting new places I usually ask “What is your favorite” or “What is most popular” – did not fail here either – she told me “The French toast is to die for”, and although i didn’t die, it was really good, the bread and custard cook combination was awesome, giant portion, and my side of bacon plentiful. And the best of all, the pricing is lower than average, it is if they forgot to to keep up with egg prices and inflation 🙂

I had the sourdough toasted bacon Blackberry Bacon Swiss jalapeño Sandwich and it was good. Tater tots were nicely cooked, crunchy, but bland. Husband had the Eggs Benedict and will not be ordering that again. It was a nice place with a nice atmosphere and the servers were friendly and smiling.

Checked the reviews for breakfast places while staying in Crescent City and as we were headed north we decided on Mattie’s instead of Crescent City due to the reviews and they were not wrong! Fantastic birthday breakfast, we were greeted on entry and brought to a table the last in the restaurant which was packed with locals and tourists alike. Definitely the favorite spot to eat!
I had the Tomato and Spinach Eggs Benedict which was delicious and they actually made my hash browns crispy as requested! My daughter had the French Toast which was a large portion and she inhaled it. Our food came quickly and was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious and bonus great value for money. Service was great and all the staff was working very diligently. I loved the bathroom signage, well done having gender neutral bathrooms!

Went in for breakfast and it wasn’t too bad. Decent portions for the price. Not a fan of “favorites” for taking orders. What I mean by that is after we were seated we had to wait to have out order taken. Completely normal to be seated and then wait for your order to be taken. What is not normal is have 2 other parties sat after us and they have their order taken before ours. Clearly they knew them as normals but for them to be seated and have their drinks ordered, delivered and then food ordered while we didn’t even get our drink order isn’t friendly service.
