Walking in the door to Viva Jalisco I was warmly greeted and the service throughout the meal was bright and friendly. Which makes giving them two stars a real bummer, but there’s really no excuse for the gold-plated prices on the sad, mediocre food.
The restaurant was clean, and the decor was stereotypical, but pleasant. The firm bench seating was a bit uncomfortable but I’d have forgiven the cliché atmosphere if only the food had been good.
Ok, so, the food (and the prices). This is where the restaurant loses all its stars. Flavorlss al pastor, spiceless salsa, drab pico de gallo… Honestly I could have gone to Taco Bell and eaten a similar quality meal for a quarter of the price. It was just an “acceptable” burrito. I couldn’t tell that I was eating al pastor. There was no hit of pineapple or char of sugar, no smoky adobo or achiote, nothing to say “hi, I’m al pastor.”
All the food was like that. And just to be sure I didn’t have covid, the Coke and tortilla chips tasted fine. The guacamole actually had some (mild) flavor, but the rest was a total yawnfest. Even the salsa was watery and boring.
Honestly, from the Bellevue-like prices and the menu, Viva Jalisco felt like a white lady Margarita Mom restaurant. Super high prices, low spice, and tired food.
Tonight was our first evening actually dining in the restaurant, and everyone who came in the door got warm greetings and great service. Our kids can be selective eaters, and the staff were patient, kind, and helpful, with a simple bean and cheese burrito for the win.
We highly recommend this place! It’s a little Bothell gem – good food, and a small town family feel.
My husband’s quesdilla was ok. We usually take carryout meals for our kids. The waitress didn’t understand that we wanted 2 carryout meals after eating there. She gave us a look.
It felt like they didn’t want Indian people in the restaurant. We didn’t get a good vibe. I can’t come back to eat in there. It was uncomfortable.
