Excellent food. Great atmosphere of a nostalgic steak house. Staff was fantastic. All around a very memorable experience.

Came here for my birthday. Got their King prime rib it was cooked perfectly but seems quite small for a 22oz at $46. It’s more like a 16oz. Steak tips was on the sweeter side. Was charged $5.25 for a stale cup of coffee to our surprise.

Frank’s Steak House is an iconic restaurant within the Cambridge area, with spacious seating for private events and for special occasions.
We hosted a birthday party for my father’s 50th birthday, and we were not disappointed. The staff were very attentive to our orders, made sure everything was set and ready for the celebration, and helped move along any issues that arose.
We tried the steak as well as a few appetizers. The appetizers were really good, standard appetizers you’d see at other locations but the quality here was much better. The steak was the highlight though. It came out on a steel plate, which kept it warm enough while we sliced it, and allowed it to reach the optimal cook we decided on. The steak was perfect on its own, though was elevated with a few sides that also arrived with it.
Overall, a wonderful experience and would definitely come back again.

This was my fifth time coming here. It’d been excellent so far, but of course the first time my wife comes with me it ends up being absolutely horrible.
Our server walked past us repeatedly, while we literally called and waved for her attention, to serve the tables on either side of our booth. When I finally got another servers attention to ask for our server to take our order, we were met with “Well are you ready to order now?” Absolutely polar service compared to the other tables around us, who all happened to look like me and not my wife or friend…
The sizzling steak was requested as MR, came out medium and of course finished well done on the iron. Prime rib was the worst one I’ve ever had here. Tons of gristle attached to a giant bone with a bit of meat for us to each share. Onion ring loaf was a mound of rings, not the usual loaf. Loaded baked potatoes were unevenly dressed and weakly so. “Sautéed” mushrooms and onions were pretty much raw.
Overall, I was super excited to bring my wife here. I’ve come multiple times with my friends and my wife just doesn’t feel welcome or that it was worth $200 for what we ate and the lack of hospitality.

If you’re looking for an old-school steakhouse with character, Frank’s in Cambridge delivers every time. The atmosphere is cozy and nostalgic, with a warm, no-frills charm that’s hard to come by these days. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming — you can tell they have regulars who’ve been coming for years.
Now, the steaks: absolutely excellent. Cooked to perfection, well-seasoned, and juicy — the prime rib in particular is a standout. The portions are generous (you will not leave hungry), and the sides hit the spot — think classic mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, and warm dinner rolls.
Prices are fair for the quality, and the overall experience feels like stepping back into a time when steakhouses were about good food, strong drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a hearty meal and a dose of classic New England charm.

I’ve been coming to Frank’s my whole life and it’s a staple in my family for generations for a reason. The food is great, the staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is warm, inviting and cozy. This is the perfect place to go on a cold winter weekend night if you’re looking for a great dinner and a relaxing and warm environment. We love to celebrate special events here and come here for dinner because it never disappoints.

I was visiting town and a friend suggested we try this steakhouse, which bills itself as Boston’s oldest. It sure lives up to that! Looking at the furniture and decor I felt like I was transported back to the 70’s. At the entrance they have signed pictures of “famous ” celebrities who’ve visited. I noticed the picture of Ed Asnor first, the dead has been actor. The vibe is definitely an older crowd. At first, I thought I was going to get a bingo card with the menu. To be fair, after being seated we noticed some younger couples. My friend ordered the New York strip and said it was fatty. My steak tips were average, which isn’t good considering it’s a steakhouse. On the positive side, our server was very friendly. It definitely seems like a place where everybody knows your name. I would consider coming back to the bar, playing Keno, and swapping stories with some of the regulars.

Excellent, old school steak house. Family friendly, with New England staples as side options. My medium rare was perfectly cooked. Our server might be part of the family – attentive and helpful on the wine choices for the house wines. If _you_ remember steaks before the world of corporate takeover of everything, then you won’t miss Frank’s. It is a gem in plain sight. A++

Wanted to support a small business for my birthday dinner- and my family loves steak- so I picked Franks based on all the awards it had received. I also read the reviews and the biggest complaint was that the steaks were often overcooked. Made a reservation using open table. I was so disappointed. The host was great but our server and the food… not so much. Even ordering our steaks less well done than usual- they were still overcooked. The wings and mozzarella were amazing but the bruschetta came with literally ice cold basil and tomatoes. (I mean ICE COLD). I made the assumption that an Italian steak house would have espresso- I was wrong.
I would have said something about the food but no one asked. When we got home my family all admitted they thought the food and service were terrible and unfortunately my son was sick. Wish we had a better experience.
