However, ordered a prime rib, 14 oz?, the larger size, and a NY Strip for takeout.
Ordered med rare, the rarest a prime rib can be.
It was probably… Beyond well done. I wouldn’t have written this review if it was simply well done, it was disgusting. Bone dry. Crumbling edges, so hard you can’t bite through, so hard, you couldnt eat. It was overcooked so far, that it was as gray as cat food. But even cat food is more tender than this.
I want to give the benefit of the doubt. But, I don’t know who in the kitchen would think this would be even remotely acceptable for one of the thickest slices of prime rib to be so overcooked that it is grey, then put it in the container to serve. The unfortunate reality is, even someone with basic cooking skills (ie; has made a pancake with boxed mix), would have known better. But then to expect this from the Keg when you pay over $60 in cash? (Well, much more, because there were two streaks).
Even if it was well done, if it was a quality steak, it should be edible and fairly tender – even if cooked through. But no. It was horrendous. Either it was so overcooked it would put a chef on Kitchen Nightmares to shame, OR it was overcooked, and the quality of the roast was poor – perhaps older stock? Only as my wife’s steak was noticeably chewier than normal as well. Certainly a waste of $120 during the holidays unfortunately.
Hopefully the restaurant can make this right. One extra star as usually the steaks are much better… But this was particularly awful… Again, if it was just overcooked but tender/edible, I wouldn’t be writing this. This was bad. This was dog food.
Definitely will be back here again!
We had the absolute pleasure of celebrating several February birthdays on February 20th at The Keg Steakhouse in Waterdown, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. Our party of seven felt completely taken care of, and that is entirely thanks to our incredible server, Chris.
Chris is, without a doubt, the best server I have ever had. He was attentive without being intrusive, genuinely warm, and impressively knowledgeable, especially when it came to accommodating two members of our family with specific dietary needs. He handled everything with such professionalism and ease that it allowed all of us to relax and truly enjoy the celebration.
What stood out most was how far he went above and beyond to make our evening feel special. By the end of dinner, Chris felt less like our server and more like part of the family. His warmth and presence made the entire evening feel even more personal and memorable.
I firmly believe in giving credit where it’s due, and Chris is the reason we’ll be returning to The Keg Waterdown. If you’re dining there, you’ll be lucky to have him. An exceptional experience all around!
We went out for a family dinner, and anyone with a toddler knows how unpredictable dining out can be. Our server Crystal was super personable from the beginning and made for a smooth dining experience all night; she was so lovely and attentive.
The icing on the cake? I (the momma) did a lap around the restaurant with our little guy because he decided that he was DONE with being in his high-chair, coincidentally right when our entrees arrived. And we’re happy to do this because we get that’s how it goes sometimes in toddler world. But on my way back to the table, we again ran into the manager Michael and he offered to take our son for another lap around the restaurant so I could get a few bites in while my food was warm. Seeing how our son naturally gravitated to him, I felt comfortable and our son seemed to love it even more…especially when he was introduced to the ladies (shocker). This small act was so generous and thoughtful, and it gave my fiancé and I a few minutes of connection and quiet – which we are eternally grateful for.
The food was great. The service was spot-on. And the level of attention and care couldn’t be beat.
Thanks guys!
Signed,
The parents of a beautifully-energetic toddler.
