Social Profile:

Two brothers journeyed from Alsace, France, to Soho, New York. They found a little restaurant for sale. The booths were already in place and they kept the chairs until they fell apart or were destroyed in the brawls that marked the early years. They were so poor they threw nothing out, not even the salt. Guy turned his Alsatian cooking skills to fine steaks and fish for low prices. Serge stood outside on Prince Street, a lonely figure importuning passersby to enter and taste. People began to trickle in from their illegal lofts in the neighborhood. Some came back the next night or the next week, and people spread the word. More came, and came back. Soon the locals were complaining about the good reviews. The rest is New York bistro history.

Classic bistro dating to the 1970s with a bustling Parisian atmosphere & a serious French menu.

Went for brunch today. We started with the Long Island oyster which were excellent. My wife had the goat cheese salad and crab beignet The goat cheese salad had a great dressing and fresh. The crab beignet I highly recommend ,it was delicious . For my main I had the steak au poivre with a delicious sauce. The taste and how it was cooked were outstanding. The profiteroles with ice cream were very good. Amy our server was very professional and efficient. Our main took a little longer than usual but she let us know the kitchen was aware. We didn’t ask as we were in no rush but that was great customer service. The placed was packed. I really liked the decor . The art on the gives the place a nice Parisian vibe. It was loud but with the amount of people and the size it’s probably normal for Brunch. I have never had dinner here but would love to. However, reservations are extremely difficult between 630 and 8. Since it was brunch I saw a family with young children. They were really enjoying their burger which is supposed to be excellent. I strongly recommend this restaurant. We had a wonderful Brunch!

We scored our second reservation here this year on a cold, snowy day when everyone was canceling. The inside is comfy and warm and tight but a great homie feel. We are set up with our same waitress. We had early this year, Aimee, who is hands-down with the best personalities and waitresses we’ve had in New York. She remembered me because no one else ever orders the cocktail the Paper Plane. We went with the classics again and got the stick off of a burger up above with the artichoke vinaigrette. All hands down one of the best steaks, the best burgers any of us have had in a long time. Thanks Amy for the recommendation to head to Pete’s Tavern afterwards for the full Christmas bar feel.

The burger at the bar is worth getting there right when they open. 10/10 martinis. Steak au poivre medium rare is just perfect, but surprisingly delicious was the cod- garlic sauce goes so well. Profiteroles are hands down the best dessert ever. Great service as well, always.

We’ve lived nearby for a while and decided to finally try Raoul’s. There’s nothing that unique about it, but it’s on the list of burgers my wife and I wanted to try. Since it’s on the regular brunch menu, we decided best to go for brunch.

The interior is cozy, I think the layout makes good use of the space and the artwork is pretty interesting as well. The arrangement of the tables in a straight line create a hallway effect between the front and the kitchen. So whenever wait staff needed to get by you would almost always get bumped or a coat knocked out. My wife’s purse was knocked over twice and neither of the times did they offer to get it from the floor.

The hostess was nice, big smile and charismatic. Same with the coat check. The waitresses, however, different story. They gave the vibe that they would rather be anywhere but at work. Trust me I feel that, but I can’t show that expression at my job and I wouldn’t expect you to show it at yours.

We ordered some coffees and made it clear that we wanted to just enjoy the coffee before ordering the burgers. Mid-conversation on three accounts within the next 10 minutes they just kept coming by and saying “so… are you ready to order now?” On the third time, my wife answered for us and said just a few minutes please. And then I spoke up as well to explain and the moment I started speaking she turned away immediately and quickly walked away.

At any rate, we both ordered the burger. The fries were great, but the burger wasn’t quite good. I could tell the meat was fresh, and as it’s called the “Burger Au Poivre” it’s going to be covered in pepper. The pepper was a tad overbearing. But the main downside was the bun. It was not fresh at all, it was stale and I even had a hard time cutting through the bun with a knife.

When we finally finished eating we just felt unwell. The pepper doesn’t settle well. Mixed with a buttery, salt infused sauce on the side, the burger was just not enjoyable. Left a 20% tip because we’ll do that always unless it’s a truly horrible experience, but they certainly did not do anything to deserve it.

We won’t be going back. I encourage those who are going to lower your expectations just a little.

As always Raoul’s lives up to its reputation.

We had another lovely evening. The food was delicious, the staff was attentive and the wine was flowing.

We all had the Steak Au Poivre along with the crispy brussel sprouts and roasted carrots. We ended our meal with the beautiful spun sugar cage and bread pudding for my friend’s birthday.

I’m sure I gained five pounds just on the butter alone but so worth it!

Highly recommend making reservations.

Went in for lunch. Ordered the Burger. So I have to compare it to Au Cheval.

Firstly Raouls is a beautiful restaurant. AC on
The other hand feels like a large diner.

Visually the burger at AC is very attractive. Raoul’s is a classic burger- very well made with the peppercorn crust and the Au pivore sauce on the side. It comes with a premade salad mix with light mayo like dressing on the burger. The salad mix was not my favorite. Shoestring fries were nice and crispy. Service was attentive.

One of a kind burger – that pepercorn crust is just insanely good. Definitely one of the most interesting burgers I’ve had.
To improve:
– Would have loved to have more cheese – It’s really good but I really had little in the burger
– it’s super dry if not dipped in the pepper jus
– the pepper jus was good but waaay to creamy – it makes it too heavy

Spectacular meal again at Raoul’s. Third time and still a charm. The steak au poivre is exceptional. Soft shell crabs excellent. Chilled cucumber soup was very refreshing and had huge chunks of lobster. Noise level is loud which is part of the fun at a 50 year old NYC legend that is still hot and vibrant.

I have been going to Raoul’s since the early 90’s and the place is still as cool and classy as ever. The quality of service and food is unbelievably consistent and the Steak au Poive and Artichoke are worth flying across the country for. Truly a New York institution. If you know, you know.

I had the pleasure of visiting Raoul in New York City this past Sunday for brunch, securing a last-minute reservation at 11:45 AM. From the moment we were seated, the experience felt effortlessly chic, reminiscent of a stylish Parisian café, blending casual sophistication with impeccable service.

To start, we enjoyed the Oysters du Jour, beautifully presented and perfectly chilled, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to high-quality seafood. For the mains, I chose the Holstein Organic Chicken Schnitzel, golden and crispy on the outside while tender and juicy within—comforting yet elevated. My companion had the Steak au Poivre, seared to perfection and served with a luscious peppercorn sauce, rich and flavorful.

Our beverage selections enhanced the meal further: a glass of red wine paired seamlessly with the steak, while a classic mimosa added a refreshing, celebratory touch to the brunch setting. For dessert, we indulged in the Sticky Banana Pudding, a decadent, moist, and perfectly balanced sweet treat that felt like the ideal conclusion to the meal.

Dining at Raoul felt like a brief escape to Paris. The combination of thoughtfully executed dishes, elegant presentation, and attentive service created a brunch experience that is both memorable and effortlessly sophisticated. Raoul is a standout destination for those seeking classic French-inspired cuisine with a modern New York energy.
