Melville’s works may have been scorned in his lifetime but, had his reviewers had some fish and chips at this namesake restaurant while reviewing the book, they may have been looked upon the work more favorably.
We were duly impressed with the freshness and quality of their fish and chips; they get them in fresh and hand bread them at this establishment. The fries are wonderfully crisp and the various condiments available for dipping is seemingly limitless (we had tartar, cocktail, fry sauce, malt vinegar, and freshly sliced lemon). The fry bread comes with real honey (not that fake, corn syrup stuff) and the clam chowder is some of the best in these parts. Our only great disappointment was that they were out of their coleslaw. We will simply have to return another time to have it as well.
The owner, who waited on us, was the most generous and helpful I’ve had in a long time. You can really tell that she takes pride in her work and wants you to have a top-notch experience. The hospitality is indeed so grand here that you won’t have to worry about suffering the same fate as Ahab. All of my limbs were indeed in tact when we left sated, satisfied, and with smiles on our faces.
I would heartily recommend their all-you-can-eat fish and chips; it’s an excellent value even if you don’t get any refills.

It would be nice if guest were greeted with a hello rather then whats your order but we came to eat. Onky a handful of customers on this Wednesday afternoon. We had our pet so we sat outside at one of the filthy, crusted picnic tables. Be wary of the tarter sauce kept outside in ice water. The tarter above the ice is a completely different color and temp than the contents kept below in ice. The fish was okay and the small handful of chips had no crunch. The fried bread makes for a great door stop. The chowder was missing clams and potatoes. Just rue. We have no need to return.

On a rainy weekday evening we were craving for fish and chips so we were really surprised by how friendly and welcoming the people were. We had two fish with fries, with a side order of oysters. The food was delicious and also came with an order of fried bread that we weren’t expecting. We will be back next time we are in town.

Great burger and fries. Both well cooked. Exactly what you’d expect when looking for burgers. They were short staffed but transparent on wait times. We’re guessing that’s why the tables were a little stucky. There is a funky smell though that we couldn’t identify…it wasn’t just fish. We took our meal to go. Yes we’d eat here again, but if the smell still resides we’d be taking it to go.

“Always More For Less”
While this is technically true, there’s no savings if you don’t finish what you order.
The fries were crisp and so was the fish; however it was greasy. The clam chowder is “award winning” and it must be in a class all its own.
The staff was friendly and the food was served in a timely manner. Sitting in the sun at the picnic table was enjoyable.

This is where the french fries went to die! I wouldn’t feed this to my dogs, also did you notice the portion size for each basket. Did you guys clean out the bottom of the fryer and dump the contents into my burger basket? Trying to be a supportive local but, it’s time for us to say never again! Three times in a row it’s been terrible.

I ordered the special surf burger. (Bacon cheeseburger topped with fried clam strips). I also ordered a small clam chowder here.
My burger was overcooked and dry. It was supposed to have bacon but I definitely didn’t taste any or see any. Clam strips were actually good and made the burger better.
Clam chowder was very thick and bland tasting. Definitely needed some spices.
My son had a kids fish and chips. Fish was cooked well but small portion. My son is 4.5yrs old and wanted more fish. He got a normal portion of fries and complained he had to many fries and not enough fish.
Wife ordered shrimp & chips. The shrimp was popcorn shrimp and not what she expected. They had a good taste but should rename the menu to popcorn shrimp.
We all had a marshmallow shake which was delicious!
This place has only outside seating (their lobby is closed to public) and no public restrooms. Plan on eating outside or taking food with you.
I feel they should add at least a portable bathroom outside to accommodate their guests.

Prices are great. I had the shrimp and chips. Only was able to eat half, they gave me so many for $12.99. Great for a covid safe dinner, have picnic tables outside plenty spread out. My problem was it took 30 minutes to get food at 5pm on a weekday in April.

I looked at reviews and pics before going here and decided that we were just gonna get the kids food from here. We got 2 kid mini corn dog baskets and 1 kid chicken nugget basket. The food was fresh and the food wasn’t over fried. The fries that I jacked from my kids were tasty.
The waitstaff was nice and friendly. They let us know that there would be a wait. They gave us our number and we sat in our car to wait for the food. We got the kids drinks first and she brought out the food about 10 mons after getting the drinks. The kids enjoyed their food.
