Cool ramen spot I’ve been looking to try for awhile. I decided to forego eating my body weight in sushi this trip and went with something warm for a cold and rainy day. I stopped in for a lunch on a Friday afternoon and it was fairly busy. I sat myself at an empty spot towards the end of the bar. It was giving off izzy vibes with the dark lighting and group seating. Ordered a Sapporo while I decided what to eat. The duck bun was a must, and an excellent starter. I ended up with the spicy paitan shio ramen. Huge chucks of pork belly too tender to pick up with my chopsticks. The broth was excellent, not too salty or spicy, and had me drinking straight from the bowl once I finished off the noodles and toppings. And may I say that was the best soy egg I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, I would be good with just those, noodles and broth. I enjoyed both the ramen and watching the staff work their magic.

This might be my new favorite ramen spot! As someone loyal to Gyuro Ramen for their rich gyukotsu broth, I wasn’t expecting to be blown away, but Oiistar completely exceeded expectations.

Umami Ramen – Absolutely incredible. The broth has this perfect umami depth that rivals the best tonkotsu I’ve had. Spice level 2 was spot-on, flavorful heat without overwhelming the complex miso base. The Berkshire pork belly literally melts in your mouth, and they’re generous with both meat and broth portions. This is easily two meals worth of food and completely satisfying.

Bao Buns:

Berkshire Pork Belly Bun – This set the bar high and delivered. The pork belly is rich and flavorful (essentially the same as what’s in the ramen), with great contrast from the cucumber and daikon sprout. The sweet sake soy reduction ties it all together beautifully. Must try.

Tempura Shrimp Bun – Good but not memorable. The shrimp was well-battered but got lost under too much pickled fennel slaw. The Thai sweet chili mayo was nice, but wouldn’t order again.

Service was excellent – staff helped me pick my ramen and gave great recommendations. The atmosphere is perfect for a casual ramen experience, and thoughtful touches like having a proper coat rack show they care about the details. Highly recommend!

Funk and hip place, perfect on a cold day! The service was a bit slow since the place was packed on Sunday afternoon, luckily we got buns to help us wait for the ramen. The buns were great, the tempura cod was a huge piece of fish making it hard to fold but absolutely delicious. Ramen was good but the egg on mine was overcooked, the flavor was good as well and gave it umami but we have tried some more depth flavor from other places.

Pretty solid spot for some ramen (4.5/5 stars)!
My friend and I visited here on a Tuesday afternoon so thankfully there was a good amount of space for street parking. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by a very welcoming/friendly server who took us to our seat. I enjoyed how open and aired out the restaurant felt. The big windows also allowed so much natural lighting to come in which felt nice during lunch time.

This is what my friend and I ordered:
Tonkatsu Buns
Umami (Spicy Level 2)
Paitan Shio
Fried Garlic Chicken Sambal

Both ramens had a savory, rich broth which was very satisfying. The char shiu (pork belly) was an absolute star- so tender and flavorful (honestly the best I’ve had in a while). The portions are also pretty large too so I had to take my leftovers to go.

The Tonkatsu Buns were good but nothing really special in my opinion. As for the fried garlic chicken, the flavor was spot on but the texture was okay- I wish it wasa tad bit crispier since the sauce made the exterior a little soft.

Overall, my friend and I had a pleasant experience at Oiistar and we can’t wait to come back and try more items from the menu!

I got the oiimen ramen, and it was creamy, gentle umami, and delicious. It wasn’t spicy at all, so I might try the umami ramen next time since it’s noted as “level 2” spicy in the menu. The pork belly bun was delicious! The meat melts in your mouth I got the poached pear, and it was a lovely way to end a hearty meal. Fluffy cream, not too sweet fruits, and an overall light dessert to cleanse your palate. Satisfied with my meal! Staff is super attentive and be ready to be a little scrunched in the small restaurant.

Oiistar is an absolute standout, delivering a five-star experience from the friendly service by Vicente to the truly exceptional dishes. We especially loved the Duck Breast bun, which had the perfect balance of savory richness, and the classic ramen was an umami bomb with fantastic flavor. The Tempura Shrimp bun was great. Everything was fresh, expertly prepared, and served quickly—we can’t wait to return to this Chicago gem!

Oiistar is my go-to ramen spot. The food is phenomenal! Everything I’ve tried from their menu is delicious (and I’ve tried A LOT). My favorite is their #3, but I recommend their #5 (pictured) if you like your ramen spicy.

My family recently came to visit and I made the mistake of bringing them here on their first night. They kept wanting to go back!

Rich ramen with a very well marinated pork loin. They have lots of options for bao buns and small list of dessert…which you probably won’t need given the size of the ramen. Overall, a wonderfully sweet spot in Wicker Park. If you’re in the area and wondering where to eat, give this place a try!

Only thing off about this place are the chairs. The chairs don’t have backs on the inside dining but the atmosphere other than that was good. Not too loud for how busy it was. The portions are typically large for a Ramen place. Everything tasted good. The spice level was just right. The have a gluten free option which is common. It was tasty.

Incredible ramen. Got the spicy garlic shoyumen. Broth, noodles, pork belly, vegetables and egg was a 5/5. One of the best ramen I’ve had the city.
