Great BURGER WEEK burger pictured 8/2025, Google it, demand its return! [Edit]
Everything was awesome! Perhaps the best, most unique coleslaw (has tiny pineapples in it!) Perhaps the best hawaiian macaroni salad, flavor! The food was too good to get more pics!

This is one of the best Hawaiian plate lunch places in Portland, especially if you’re not craving the food cart experience. There are quite a few different meat options, and the mac salad is very good. I would also suggest trying a side order of the pineapple coleslaw.

It’s been a few years since I’ve eaten here and was looking forward to a comfort meal after a day of traveling and had it delivered.
Unfortunately the katsu chicken was just terrible.. thin, over cooked and overly salty.
I don’t know what’s gone wrong, but this isn’t what I remember it to be.

Listen, the food is delicious. No question. We are happy vegans. But what has guaranteed my loyalty forever is $7 kids plates. Period. It was an actually appropriate amount of incredible food for hungry kids. 10000/10 would recommend for literally any one.

I never eat any food the way I eat Ate-Oh-Ate. Nearly choked to death, completely happy, chowing down on my favorite dish. Consistently good for years now in my experience, thanks! It’s so inexpensive for the quality so I always have to pay for a friend to try too. The chili vinegar sauce is delicious with everything.

Fantastic Hawaiian fare. Solid Mac salad, kalua pig, loco moco, and my fav – Korean chicken w/kimchi. All of it was SO GOOD.

First meal on this visit.
Chosen mainly because it happens to be down the street from where my friend lives and he goes regularly. I figured why not. I love Hawaiian food.
So theirs is a Korean fusion. I got the Korean chicken which had kimchi. It had I think 2 scoops of rice. I could’ve used another scoop, but that’s just me. I’m Asian. I opted for the mac salad. My friend got the Karsu chicken which he said is literally the only dish he’s ever ordered. He’s that loyal and consistent.
We didn’t have to wait long for our order. Probably under 5 minutes which was just the right amount of time for me to admire their tropical decor.

The best Hawaiian food I’ve eaten east of the islands incredibly friendly service as well, and my food was ready to-go right on time. I was traveling and they kindly asked if I needed any utensils which I appreciated, and they had chopsticks! I got the Kalua pig with cabbage, rice, macaroni salad, and the pineapple coleslaw. They recommended the chile vinegar water which was tasty on the rice. The Mac salad was perfect, the kalua pork was to dieeee for. The coleslaw was a nice fresh tropical delight. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in PDX again. Mahalo for the aloha vibes I really needed that in my life <3

I’ve been eating here for years and have never been let down. The plate dinners are large enough for two people to share, especially if you order any reasonably priced side dish. The happy hour on weekdays from 3-6pm is a fantastic opportunity to try different items at a very steep discount. The staff is always incredibly kind and helpful and the restaurant itself is very clean.

It is really hard not to give macaroni salad, when done right Hawaiian style, 5 stars. And at Ate-Oh-Ate, it is absolutely done right. Add to that huge portions and, again, how is this not 5 stars? I think the issue to me was some of the food just wasn’t worth the price, with a particular miss being the pork katsu which was lacking in flavor that wasn’t offset by a good complimenting sauce. But it wasn’t just the pork katsu… The pulled pork, the korean chicken, and the hamburger also were fine, but not above fine.
For the macaroni salad alone (gosh it’s so addictive!), I’d come back and give other meats at Ate-Oh-Ate a shot. So still 4 stars, though a tiny bit of room for improvement!
