A friend of mine told me about this sushi place and she spoke so highly of their firecracker shrimp and sushi rolls that I had to check it out myself. From the moment I walked in it was so clean and the atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for the girl who was our waitress was so sweet. The firecracker shrimp was definitely my favorite choice. The sushi rolls are not only tasteful they are arranged beautifully. I almost didn’t want to ruin them . Highly recommend this place. I can’t wait to go back again. And you get to have a dessert for your birthday, which was absolutely divine. I picked chocolate truffle and I can’t find anything negative to say about this place.

Service and place was great! But the food was not as good as it should of been. Ive had waayy better sushi & fried rice back home at Sushi Q on Eureka Rd in Southgate, for less $! This food was not hot/fresh and wacky overpriced. Sushi Q is always hot/fresh, amazing food and is sooo worth its price!

Our server Molly and the chefs were super careful and accommodated my set of allergies to the best A+ level I think I’ve ever had!! Everything was DELICIOUS, and the creativity and art of their nigori is remarkable! GO EAT THERE!!

I think this place is going down the drain in a hurry. It is nothing like it was a year ago. This was the most trustable sushi place in Grand Rapids I could go for my celiac issues. I went here about a week ago with my wife to have sushi. I asked the waitress explicitly for gluten free and dairy free sushi with no cross contamination (clean utensils, no mixups with other gluten sources, etc) because I have a serious allergy. I explained it to her like explaining it to a toddler who cannot understand complex language. She said “yes we can do it”. She bought the sushi and I ate it. Fast forward 2 hours later, my entire night sleep got ruined. I got severe flatulence that ruined my sleep with obnoxious gastritis symptoms due to gluten contamination. The next 2 days I got severe dermatitis on my elbows. I do not know what she fed me that day. But it must have been extra refined gluten. I am never touching this place again with a 10′ pole. If I had enough money, I would totally sue this idiots.

Maru serves colorful, flavorful rolls with that POW vibrant sushi look. Patio’s excellent, servers are solid, and it’s the best sushi on the East Side.

The Detroit location was our go-to, so we were bummed when it closed…but the Grand Rapids location is just as good! Beautifully crafted sushi, packed with flavor, and served in an upscale, welcoming atmosphere. So glad we have another location to enjoy!

Love this spot for date night! All of the appetizers are amazing but the crab rangoon dip is definitely a favorite. We always end up ordering multiple of the crouching tiger specialty roll because it is THAT good. The restaurant is typically full on weekends so I would recommend making a reservation, however, typically you can make an online reservation 30 minutes to an hour prior to when you want to eat and they were able to seat us immediately. Service has always been great, but plan on 1 to 2 hours for dinner just because of the time it takes to make each of the rolls. The quality of the food is definitely worth the wait. Best sushi restaurant in Grand Rapids hands down!

My husband and I went here on a Monday evening and it was lovely! My husband got a specialty roll and I got Salmon nigiri and gyoza. The sushi was good quality and flavorful. They also had some speciality lemonades and I tried the Mango flavor. It was delicious! Our waitress was kind and answered all our questions. Our food took about 25 minutes to come out which was a downside to our experience but overall we had a great time. We sat outside on their deck which was nice. I would recommend this place to anyone in GR!

Meant to write this review sooner but it kept slipping my mind.
I dined in last week at Maru Sushi for the first time. I have been visiting from out of state and a lot of spots were closed due to a severe snow storm. I stumbled upon Maru during lunch time and I am so glad they were open!
The food was delicious! I got the chicken Yaki Udon and some roasted chestnut tea!
My server, Molly, was so sweet, very attentive, and very knowledgeable. Amazing service.
Glad to have stumbled upon Maru during this visit!
