Lamplighter Coffee Roasters in downtown Richmond has such a great vibe — a bustling coffee shop with a cozy, lively feel that makes it especially nice on a rainy day. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from a classic, local coffee spot.
I tried the Brown Sugar Cardamom Latte since it was highly recommended, but honestly, it tasted more like a regular latte without the unique flavors I was hoping for. Still, the overall experience made up for it — friendly energy, good coffee shop hustle, and a welcoming place to relax or work for a bit. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in downtown Richmond and looking for that authentic coffeehouse experience.

This coffee shop has a very grungy and cozy atmosphere. It feels like more of the classic Richmond hipster vibe (as someone who grew up here). The seating is limited if you come on the weekend but the outdoor seating increases the area a good bit when the weather is nice. The bagel sandwich was perfectly good and worth the price, but nothing to write home about. I got the cardamom latte and it was great. I’d maybe try to avoid its busiest times but I’d recommend going to this coffee shop.

Nice spot for a coffee and some reading/working. Line was long but moved fast, and I only ordered a drip coffee. They had an 8oz size which was great! I sat inside by the front window and enjoyed a leisurely hour reading and catching up on some work. There’s outdoor seating too but it was a bit chilly for me. I can see why this was recommended to me!

One of the first coffee shops me and my wife found in Richmond almost a decade ago. And we’ve been regulars ever since. Their coffee bean blends are some of the best we’ve had, and we stop by every month to stock up on them so we can have great coffee at home. Get their breakfast burrito my way (sausage and bacon) slayer bagel, and Thai iced coffee are our favorites. I like the workers there, and the atmosphere. I feel extremely comfortable in their space. Thanks you guys!

For “take and go” orders, this is a great option. While I wasn’t totally clear on the process, staff took care of us, we got our orders and they were done great. The coffee was excellent and the vegetarian options were spectacular! A really nice surprise as we had a vegetarian in the group. The breakfast burrito with vegetarian sausage was excellent and the egg, cheese and sausage bagel, very good. We will definitely return!

There were alot of coffee shops to choose between Broad st and Cary but i DEFINITELY made the right choice coming to Lamplighter. Housed right on Addison st, I walked to the 5 bus from brook rd and got here in about 20 minutes total, so the commute was convenient to me. I ordered and sat in the screened in heated patio area which was very quiant. The atmosphere was suitable for parents with kids as well as business meetings. My order arrived no more than 15 minutes after I placed it which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered a cappuccino and a Lox bagel which was decently priced at a worthy $13. I dined alone and spent $20 total and was very satisfied with the tastes, experience, and service alike. My hunger was fulfilled, but the employees’ generosity and the restaurant atmosphere raised my mood for the day. Highly recommend giving this place a try with a huge shout out to the staff for keeping their customers this happy and maintaining positive attitudes themselves! 10/10

We came on a Sunday morning during brunch hour, and the place was packed but the staff was very patient and friendly. We got our food within 10 minutes and our drinks within 20-30. I spent about $40 for two drinks, two breakfast dishes, and two bakery items. The chai was pretty sweet, but very heavy on the spices, which I loved. I highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches, the Muna was delicious – so fresh and flavorful. The pre-made bakery items were the real star of the show. The sweet potato chai muffin and vegan pumpkin bread were both incredible. There was ample seating both inside and outside, and it wasn’t too hard to find parking, even at very busy weekend brunch hour. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Small shop with a Rustic vibe with really good coffee and bagels. This is not the coffee shop to try to work in. The brown sugar cardamom latte is really good and have the perfect cardamom flavor that isn’t overpowering. Really good service. I like that there is a free library outside and they have free community meals for people who needs it.

Very good coffee from a very cute shop! The mocha had a pleasant taste as if it was roasted to perfection, not burnt or bitter whatsoever. It was subtly sweet with no extra sweetener added by me. High quality stuff for sure. I’m definitely going to be trying the iced lavender latte the next time I come!
The shop is very cozy and has intimate indoor and outdoor seating arrangements, making it a great place to get coffee with a friend. They also have their own little parking lot in the front which I really appreciated.
