One of those iconic places you have to try to stop at while in Madison. The restaurant opened in the late 1940s and the original menu and price list is still on the wall. They are known for their huge portion sizes so come hungry. One pancake was enough for my wife. My son could only finish half a skillet. The coffee cake looks like it was made in a lasagna pan! Try the French toast. Made from battered cinnamon rolls. delicious! Be prepared to wait in line. Service is pretty quick so patience will pay off.

Mickies is a classic. Dinner with very generous portions. Love the choices for breakfast. Hard to go wrong do eat a cinnamon roll but the Coffee cake particularly blueberry very good. Bring cash although ATM available and remember it’s worth the wait

Stopped by on a Thursday morning for breakfast. Very classic 50s diner atmosphere. It felt like home even thought it was my first visit. The food portions are huge and fair on price. Highly recommend!!!

Always amazing…but this time…there was NO line! We got nearby street parking and that was also a plus. As there was no line, and we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive the waiter started a conversation with us and we were able to share how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication to create the magic that happens on a weekend morning at Mickies Dairy Bar;)

Notorious classic, greasy spoon diner across Camp Randall Stadium. Always busy, always friendly and the food is always good. The fried pork chop plate is delicious and is wonderfully seasoned. The pancakes are thick and wholesome. A destination eatery when visiting Madison. Cash only.

Me and my husband stopped here for the first time. He got the corn beef scrambler and I got the blueberry pancakes. The portions are amazing, the food superb. The sitting was unique and I can say we will be coming back. Our server was knowledgeable and gave recommendations, which helped us decide. We absolutely will be returning

Awesome local place for a hearty breakfast. The pancakes are huge and the “scramble” was awesome: eggs, cheese, potatos, and your choice of meat. Cash only, but service was fast, frequent and friendly. BTW, the fried potatoes are called “yanks.” Never heard that term before, but if your food is this good for a fair price, you get to call it whatever you want.

OMG! What an amazing place!

Old School – as in probably not renovated since it was opened in 1947, and charming as can be.

food was absolutely outstanding, one of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten, and I am a big fan of breakfasts. And the portion size was remarkable – I’m a big guy and a big eater, and I had enough left over for tomorrow’s breakfast (you had better believe I took it home with me).

Great service, friendly, altogether excellent. Cash only, there is an ATM

Its reputation precedes it. Got a scramble, which was wonderfully huge (yanks = potatoes, btw). Service was nice and fast — almost too fast. Couldn’t finish the toast with the scramble at first, but waitstaff came by with the check — although I wasn’t there anywhere close to an hour, they do have a warning not to spend more than an hour there written somewhere. So, headed out to get out of the way (somewhat subconsciously) and within minutes wished I had eaten the rest of the toast. Oh well. Definitely worth a visit when in Madison.

Great coffee, good food, and throwback atmosphere–old-school diner style. Plentiful portions. You won’t find anything truly healthy here, though–it’s all comfort food. Fantastic service. Limited seating and the line to sit gets super long on the weekends, so get there early. Cash only, but they have an ATM inside.
