I’ve lived in Richmond for many years and have always driven past this restaurant, but never visited until tonight. We finally decided to give it a try, and unfortunately we left disappointed.
The complimentary bread was cold, dry, and airy — it honestly felt like biting into a sponge. One of the butters had completely melted, so it was impossible to spread. Then the calamari arrived, and it tasted like something you’d air-fry at home: mostly batter with barely any squid.
Next was the Calzone Italiano. The first bite was fine, but once we got to the center, I bit into a very fleshy texture. When I pulled it out of my mouth, I realized the pork sausage was undercooked and still raw. My partner’s bite was cold and the cheese inside hadn’t even melted. I brought it to the server’s attention and she showed it to the manager, who offered to make a new one — which we accepted — but by then I had already lost my appetite.
The Fettuccine alla Vodka was probably the most passable dish of the evening; it actually tasted okay, to be fair. When we finished and asked for the bill, I was hoping they might offer some kind of gesture for the experience, like a discount or a dessert, but there was nothing. The manager didn’t even offer an apology.
I’m sorry, but I don’t think I’ll be returning.

If you want to try one of the best pastas you’ve ever had, you should definitely go to Tomato Italian Restaurant. My partner has been telling me for a long time that whenever he craves really good Italian food, this is the place he goes—and he was absolutely right.
I love mushrooms, so I ordered the Fungi pasta and asked them to add chicken, and I loved every bite. I don’t remember exactly what my partner ordered, but it was one of the red-sauce pastas and he really enjoyed it. One thing I appreciated was that you can choose the type of pasta you want—short (like rotini or penne) or long (spaghetti, linguine, or fettuccine).
Make sure to order the full size if you want leftovers, because the portions are huge. One full-size pasta could easily last for two or even three meals. I’ve also been told their rosé sauce is amazing, so that’s definitely next on my list—if my love for mushrooms doesn’t win again!
And don’t forget to try their frozen margarita—it’s excellent and not something you find at many places. Overall, a fantastic spot for Italian food that I’ll definitely be going back to.

We came in for Valentine’s Dinner with our kids without a reservation and we were treated so well right off the bat. Not only did we get seated pretty quickly (the restaurant was full) but the staff was friendly, welcoming and our waitress went above and beyond! The food was excellent as always and we can’t wait to come back.

Had a friend drag me out of the house to get pasta, and it the expectations have been met. Got the pesto with chicken. The cost is great if you like leftovers for the next day. Would come here again and introduce all my friends and family to the restaurant. A Richmond staple.

This place is a very long time established Italian restaurant in Richmond. All I gotta say is that if your a hungry student this is the place for you. The portions are humongous! It’s like there’s an Italian Mama trying to feed you and the prices for pastas are so reasonable. Personally I can make this at home but in reality there’s alot of people that don’t know how or just don’t want to. Service is friendly very corporate like, checkups.
I’ve never had a bad experience here. It’s always been very consistent and competitive. Fantastic comfort food at affordable prices.

We went to an Italian spot and overall it was good. The pasta portions were huge especially the one with shrimp, chicken, and mushrooms. That one was amazing. Lasagna was just okay, too much tomato sauce for me, and the pizza wasn’t really my thing. I somehow finished the pasta because it was so good, but my stomach paid the price. Maybe don’t go for the large unless you’re really hungry!

After showing this restaurant to my Father of 93years old, about 3 years ago, it has become his favorite place to have Italian food.
Honestly I can see why, it is tasty at a good price to the amount you get and the service and atmosphere is nice as well.
