Breakfast and lunch spot with large portions to fuel you up through a Minnesota winter.
The staff is welcoming, but be prepared to wait in a line to order during peak times. Use the line time to read the board for specials and ideas for a new favorite.
Pumpkin pancakes with maple butter are my current favorite.
Everything I have ever ordered has been yummy, but occasionally there are missteps like a missed sides.
It can be noisy with a happy crowd waiting and the extra long table might be used to accommodate multiple groups, so this isn’t a place to escape from humanity. But it is a great place to meet a friend for a meal!

I’m giving this place three stars because the food was solid with no complaints other than it was lacking depth and definitely salt. I’ve noticed here in the Twin Cities. A lot of places have very high ratings, but don’t seem to be matching up with the flavor. While all the ingredients on the dish were right, there was just no flavor coming from them. A little salt will go a long way. Prices were slightly elevated, and the coffee was overpriced for what it was. I might be willing to try it again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.

If you’re looking for a place with great made-from-scratch breakfast food, this spot is a must-visit. They truly know how to do breakfast right. While the food might take a bit longer to arrive compared to a chain restaurant, the wait is definitely worth it. The flavors are exceptional, showcasing thoughtful and delicious flavor profiles in every dish.
If you’re unsure of what to order, I highly recommend trying the Colossal Breakfast. Don’t forget to add a side of pork bison gravy—it’s the perfect complement to your meal. The portion sizes are generous without being overwhelming, and the prices are very reasonable, ranging from $10 to $15.
Be prepared for a bit of a crowd, as this place can get busy, and parking might be a challenge. However, the quality of the food makes it all worthwhile. It’s definitely a breakfast destination worth checking out.

I have a soft spot for Colossal Cafe but I’ve often felt their food is overpriced, and I feel quality has slightly declined over the years. They make consistently good food, however, and staff have always been friendly and helpful with great service. Worth a visit, especially if you want to venture beyond a standards eggs-meat-and-hashbrowns breakfast and get one of their bowls or specials. If you just want a basic breakfast, though, a diner is a better bet.

Cute little cafe with indoor & outdoor seating. We stopped in at 10:30am on a Sunday and they were quite busy but seating was still available. Orders are made at the counter so it would be helpful to look over their menu before going in. Everything is made fresh from scratch! We had the Colossal breakfast, and some pastries. It was all wonderful. Parking is street only, but a nice location, so it wasn’t real difficult to find.

Another great Thanksgiving meal from you and your staff. Doll couldn’t stop raving about how moist the meat was and wonderful flavor. All the dishes, meat, stuffing, mashed potatoes, GREAT! Just not enough gravy. I would have expected that the side of dark meat I ordered might have come with it’s own side of gravy. Oh well. Lund’s will suffice tomorrow.
Thank you for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal.

It was very crowded, but it was still incredibly quick with the food. Servers were a joy to meet. Even with so many people, it was still very enjoyable. The food was immaculate. The eggs, sausages, and hashbrown were delightful. Was a bit messy, but that was probably just me, haha. 5/5

It was my first visit after COVID-19 and after I moved to a different state. The colossal Cafe was my favorite hidden spot during my time with U of MN, and it always offered warm dishes and a great atmosphere. It’s so precious that I only share this with a few friends. And I visited again during my short trip to the twin cities, and I feel like my lovely gem is more beloved. I miss the cafe, and I highly recommend it here.

Nice start to the weekend morning – a stop at the Colossal Cafe. The Colossal Breakfast was great – over easy eggs, bacon, hash browns, and sourdough toast with homemade rhubarb jelly. Also the breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon and cheese. Enjoy and stop in!

What an amazing breakfast! We thoroughly enjoyed all of the unique dishes and drinks, leaving completely satiated and content. The Scandinavian frittata was fantastic, a savory blend of eggs, fish, potatoes, and flavorful herbs. The vegatarian chorizo breakfast bowl was a perfectly balanced medley of rice, veggie sausage, veggies, and more. The cinnamon role was massive, daresay colossal – we still have more than half left that we needed to bring home. 😀 The nitro cold brew and chai were delicious, refreshing, and complimentary to the rest of the meal. We would definitely come again for another breakfast or to try their lunch options! Highly recommend.
