From the first time I went, their fried catfish and shrimp (50/50 dish) was amazing. I really heard good things about gumbo from online. I grew up eating rice and so I decided to try it out for the first time. Honestly, it’s really good though especially how the sauce blends well with the rice and seafood.
I also tried their brown sugar lemonade before and got mines again. It’s been at least two years since I last visit but I guess I forgot that you can fill that lemonade yourself. I thought that they’ll fill it and then serve it to you.
The crawfish étouffée’s sauce was rich with mellow spices. I appreciated its generous helping of green onions as well, though I did wish for more crawfish. Regardless, the étouffée combined nicely with the rice and the side of baguette that they provided even with my “small” portion.
My husband ordered a quarter muffaletta sandwich and a side of regular fries. The quarter looked large enough to satisfy a light appetite, with a copious amount of cheese melting out the sides.
Of course, I had to go back to try the fried chicken sandwich. I should note that it’s not a “hot chicken” sandwich, but an amazing classic one without chile heat. Two freshly fried chicken breasts are served on the bun with a red vinegar coleslaw, pickles, and more of the Old Bay aioli. The incredible tastes and tingles from the herbs and spices in this well-seasoned batter thrilled my tastebuds. I refrained from drizzling over Crystal hot sauce once I realized how lovely the sandwich was without it–this one just plain doesn’t need that extra zest. The coleslaw’s vinegar dressing tang, the pickle brine, and the creamy aioli all mingle with those seasonings, making a near-perfect mix of flavors and textures for a sandwich. No notes. Wonderful.
If you’re craving good Cajun cooking, I don’t think you can do much better than Southern Comfort Kitchen in the Bay Area.
Clean & great natural lighting.
Didnt wait long to be seated for a party of 3 on a Sunday morning. It was busy though.
Service, great. Every worker that interacted with my family and I was welcoming & friendly.
Every bite of everything we ordered was DELICIOUS. Portions were PERFECT especially for my family & I.
You order at the counter and wait for the delicious food. Service was fast on the day we went as we didn’t have to wait long.
We got some Mac and cheese which is little different from the home made one. This was bit tough but tasted good. The Crawfish Étouffée was large portioned and tasted delicious. Hush puppies were piping hot and fresh. They also have beignets on weekends.
All they are missing is some oceanside swamps and views to make this a perfect Louisiana backwaters hangout. Geaux Tigers!
I would definitely eat here again and maybe try the pasta, it all looked amazing. Well prepared, and tasty!!!!
Overall, this is a solid choice for Cajun and Southern comfort food. If you’re in the mood for hearty, flavorful dishes in a relaxed and welcoming setting, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try. I’ll be back to explore more of the menu!
My husband loved the Jambalaya and hasn’t stopped talking about it all month! We tried to recreate it at home – it’s just not the same lol we miss it!
I had corn flour bartered shrimp (gf!) and the sauce they served with it?! Mouth watering. We also LOVED the brown sugar lemonade. We ordered one and liked it so much we ordered another! We also ordered the crab Cajun fries which were good, but we liked the shrimp and jambalaya much better, and that was what we re-ordered when we went back!
They were very nice about my allergy and didn’t make me feel like a burden! There isn’t a lot of seating, so we ordered it to go the second time. Parking is easy and plentiful when we went at least!
