What a terrible experience I had at this place today. I really hate to leave not so positive reviews and I normally don’t but I feel like I need to say something about my experience today. To put things in perspective, I have been coming to this place for 2 years. I drive from NYC to get here and it normally takes me over an hour. I never really enjoyed the service too much but I certainly enjoyed the food. Today I was craving ceviche so we drove to Tumi. We were greeted, pointed to a table, and we ordered our food: Fried calamari, ceviche and half a chicken. Something was very different about the food. The fish in the ceviche needed to marinate more in lemon, and it was so salty. The calamari was good and the chicken was ok. My fiancé only ate the drumstick of the half chicken. I didn’t finish my ceviche. The taste was not the usual. I didn’t like it. We sat there for a while waiting for the waiter who never came back. We needed the check. When someone finally approached to clean up the table he wanted to take my finance’s plate but we told him we wanted that to go (actually, I mentioned it twice). There was a whole breast and thigh left with a lot of French fries. So the same guy came back and then took our plate. A while went by and we are still waiting for someone to bring us the check. I finally get the attention from one of them and asked for the check as well as my left overs to go. They bring the check and no left overs. The guy didn’t say a word (the usual thank you for dining with us today that you would get at any restaurant)Then a lady walks by and says, oh they are gonna bring your leftovers. A while goes by and I am still waiting. Finally the guy who took my plate comes back and says, I am bringing you a fresh piece because I actually threw out your food by mistake. I was already so frustrated by this time so I just took the bag, paid and left. He did apologize. When we got home this is what we saw. A half of chicken breast (trying to figure out why someone would cut half of the chicken breast. I don’t think they sell half of chicken breast) and literally 10 French fries. Please look at the picture and see how they cut the breast in half. Unreal! It was just adding insult to injury at this point. Let’s just say, Today was our last visit to Tumi. While I never enjoyed the service before, it certainly got worse. Maybe there’s a new chef but that ceviche was nothing like it used to be.

First time ever having Peruvian food and I wasn’t excited until I smelled all the yummy food when I got inside.
I split the Tumi Chicken special that had a whole chicken, fries and a salad. The Aji verde sauce is out of this world. Absolutely delicious food can’t wait to come back. Bought some of the aji verde to take home it was that good.

The food is good, but it’s sad that I had this experience with them. The food prices were different when we were charged than what was shown on the menu. They also forced a 15% tip and never informed us about it beforehand. I had to take back the cash tip I had left on the table before leaving.

This business needs to inform customers in advance if they are going to charge credit card fees, add a mandatory 15% gratuity, or change the prices from what is shown on the menu.

Restaurants can do whatever they want, but they must inform customers beforehand so we can decide before buying anything. I am disgusted with my experience eating here.

The atmosphere was nice and the food was great. We ordered lomo saltado de carne, arroz chaufa mixto, pollo a la brasa con papas fritas & salchipapas. The lomo, arroz chauffa and salchipapas were great! Everything was tasty and juicy. The pollo a la brasa was ok. They also have desserts but we didn’t have any, we were too full. They have a parking lot too, but it’s not too big. We will definitely go back in the near future.

I must say I expected it to be different inside since the outside of the restaurant is really nice. Today was our first time here and I would probably come back but only for a to go order. We saw a waitress with blue gloves picking up garbage from the floor then she’s bringing utensils and plates to the table which was really gross. My husband said something to her (nicely) and she didn’t take it so well. After that was said, no one came back to check on us. They didn’t even bother to come back to the table. The food was good, we love Peruvian food and if the experience would have been different, this place could have been one of our most visited restaurants. Sadly today we had a bad experience.

Good food. I had the tallerines verde with steak and my wife had whole fish. The fish needed more salt. Only negative is that tip is mandatory, regardless of size, but all restaurants in Elizabeth, NJ are doing that so I didn’t penalize the review for that

I’m from Pennsylvania my son graduated and I was looking for a restaurant near the area but I’m not too familiar with the area had family from NY as well but read really good reviews on the website and they are very true. Food was delicious made you feel like home they serve you very good portions that you can take home some left overs my compliments to the owner, the chef and the whole staff. I’m definitely going back with more family will reserve upstairs more intimate and to top it off music was very good the only thing that is missing is alcohol drinks other than that ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you want shareable and left over size meals this if your place! Prices are a bit pricey but you def get what you pay for. We had the shrimp ceviche delicious! The special chaufa delicious! The roasted chicken juicy tender and flavorful! There is a parking lot but depending if they have a party in their hall it can get pack. The main dining area is a bit small but that doesn’t stop me from coming here. I would highly recommend this place you won’t be disappointed.

The food is good however the staff isn’t always polite. I’ve walked into the restaurant to not even be greeted with a “Hello” or to ask what would I like for about 5 minutes when I was the only customer standing there the young lady was in her phone .. smh I was disappointed and just walked out
