La Fogata Restaurante at the Palms in Town & Country Mall in Kendall is a hidden gem for lunch in Miami.

My wife and I stopped in for an impromptu lunch date and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. There was no wait for seating, which is rare for Miami, and the service was prompt without feeling rushed.

Our server, Patricia, was warm, welcoming, and had a great sense of humor. She rolled with my jokes the entire time, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

The menu was available by QR code, but Patricia also came prepared with a physical menu, which I always appreciate (it forces us off our devices).

We were pleasantly surprised by how affordable the lunch specials were. My wife and I both ordered the chuletas de puerco (pork chops) lunch special, which came with two pork chops and two sides each.

I chose:
House salad
Carrot & cabbage salad

My wife ordered:
Caesar salad
Mariquitas (fried plantain chips)

We also ordered a third meal to go for our kids, with white rice and maduros.

The pork chops were juicy, tender, and extremely flavorful with a beautiful grilled sear. The portions were generous enough that we saved one chop each for dinner.

The house salad even included beets, which was a nice surprise.

Drinks were also very reasonably priced. I had the orange and carrot juice, and my wife had a Coke.

The total, including tip, was around $60 for three meals and drinks, which is outstanding value in Miami.

Another thing that stood out was the positive energy of the staff. Everyone seemed happy and motivated, which tells me management is likely doing something right.

If you’re looking for great Cuban food, generous portions, friendly service, and fair prices, La Fogata is absolutely worth visiting.

We’ll definitely be back.

We were seated quickly on a Saturday at 3pm. Yummy food. All plates ordered were delicious. We ordered onion steak, churrasco, pollo milanesa, shredded beef bowl, la sopa de res was perfect. Sangria. Andres provided great service; attentive and friendly. Will definitely come back.

The food was absolutely delicious and fresh, and Andres was exceptionally attentive and hospitable throughout our visit. What stood out even more was the way the staff worked as a team, not only clearing tables promptly but also ensuring every guest felt cared for. That level of teamwork and service is rare to see nowadays, and it truly elevated the entire dining experience

I stopped by La Fogata Kendall at the end of the day looking for something warm and comforting, and it was exactly what I needed. I ordered the chicken soup and it was perfect. cozy, flavorful and light enough for a weekday dinner. The place was quiet and tranquil, a big contrast to how busy it usually looks during the day. Going late at night made it feel like a peaceful, homey corner just for me. The attention was amazing, the atmosphere felt like a cozy home, and the prices were great. I pass by this spot every day, but now I’m glad I finally stepped inside. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a warm, calm place to unwind.

BEWARE OF THIS! Before I get into the food, I have to mention an issue with the check. Our waiter, Orlando, brought us a receipt where the tax and gratuity section was covered with white-out tape. The subtotal and total didn’t add up, and when we questioned it, he quickly took the receipt, crumpled it, and blamed the machine. He then brought the correct one — this time showing the tax and gratuity. Please double-check your receipt, because the credit card machine will still prompt you for a tip — which means you could end up paying gratuity twice.
Now for the food: It was my first time visiting the Kendall Drive location, and overall, the food did not disappoint. We tried a repocheta, which was absolutely delicious! We also ordered the grilled chicken with grilled onions, grilled pork with plantains, and lomo con salsa jalapeño — everything was full of flavor and well-prepared. The natural fruit juices, especially the mango and lemonade, were refreshing and complemented the meals perfectly. We did have to wait about 25 minutes to be seated, and while the food was worth the wait, the service fell short. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive or friendly, which took away from the overall experience. That said, if you’re in Miami and craving authentic Nicaraguan food, I definitely recommend giving La Fogata a try — just be prepared for a possible wait and a service experience that might not match the quality of the food.

Order grilled fish fillet ($14.5) that comes with 2 sides: fried yuca and sweet plantain. Food is delicious; beyond expectation. When the check comes, the 15% gratuity is automatically added to the bill.. but there is still a standard “tip” suggestion at the bottom. Usually the waiter or waitress would explain that to make it clear for the customer but they did not. That was a bit strange. Otherwise, overall food is good.

We went with a large party but arrived like an hour later. The waitress took my husbands order and said “Will that be all?” And not once looked at me or directed her attention at me. So my husband thought she asked him if that was all the food HE wanted (we come across this question a lot when we eat out due to proper hospitality). She then walked away and we didn’t get her attention until a while after and I let her know she forgot to take my order. She apologized and said she did ask my husband if that was all and he said yes. She thought we were sharing one plate. It’s weird because she never looked at me when taking his order. Still, I was ignored – I didn’t know my husband had to talk FOR me. I understand it was a busy night for the restaurant – it was just odd and our food ended up coming out different times as a result. Delicious food though!
