Visiting South Bend for business and I stopped by here because its in the same parking lot as my hotel. Walking in, it looks like a typical Chinese restaurant, with the low lighting, red and gold booths and golden cat decor and buddhas. The restaurant was quiet and not very busy, considering that I visited on a Monday night, I wasn’t too surprised. As far as the food, I wanted to try something new and ordered a chicken dish on the menu. Although I am not a big fan of water chestnuts my food was pretty fresh, hot, clean and flavorful. I have to say, I was surprised at the great quality considering the inexpensive prices! The food came out rather quickly too (probably due to the restaurant not being busy) and the server was pretty attentive and sweet!

Went in to order take out for us on Valentine’s Day. Place was clean and had just opened. Friendly lady took my order. I ordered the crab rangoon, sweet and sour chicken, veg lo mein, and beef and mushrooms. Didn’t have to wait long. Home in 10 min and wish I would have taken a picture. Everything smelled so good and healthy portions. Tasted so good!! Was very happy!!

I normally can’t tell the difference between good quality Chinese food and less than so I go to a lot of Chinese buffets. It takes a really special place for me to know it’s good quality. Yang Chow in Los Angeles is one of those places.

Last Friday my friend suggested Ho Ping House in South Bend and it was fantastic! The egg drop soup was good. The pot stickers were the best ever had. The entrée was a chefs special called the triple treat. It was beef, shrimp, and scallops. It made me food happy.

The decor is nice (something missing in a lot of Chinese restaurants) and the service was excellent. I’ll absolutely be back.

Well, you started off with the crab Rangoon, which were delicious. They came out very hot and we had it with duck sauce and the hot mustard. We had the veggie lo mein for one course also had the Phoenix and dragon dish which was lobster and general Tsos chicken combined together, and we also had the shrimp and scallop crispy salted which was delicious. Our waitress was excellent and we had a couple of Mai ties with our meal we highly recommend them if you’re in this area

I have been eating at Ho Ping House on Dixie Way for about 15 years. My past reviews have all been favorable (yelp). I still like the food- but the service has REALLY GONE DOWNHILL!

Ho Ping House had the same good servers for years. They were polite, friendly and I always tipped.
In the last several months they lost their best waitresses and the service has really suffered. Not re-filling the drinks, disappearing for long stretches of time, getting the orders wrong, surely attitude, etc.

I spoke to one of the long-time employees about this recently and they seemed to not care, or not believe me.

So, I will no longer be spending my money at Ho Ping House and instead will frequent one of the other 50 or 60 restaurants in the area.

I found it unpleasant and unprofessional. Even though the restaurant was empty, the waitress served me in a bad mood, rushing me to order without letting me explain what I wanted or giving me time to look at the menu properly. There was also someone standing next to her putting pressure on me. I won’t be going back. Incidentally, I ordered the black rice, and they didn’t make it properly. The chop suey wasn’t very good, and the pork ribs had very little meat and a lot of fat.

Literally the worst Chinese I’ve had. General Tsos was made with chicken thighs and they were very fatty. Texture of chicken was gross. Flavor wasn’t great. Fried rice was unflavored mush. Egg roll was gross. Felt sick hours later. Our friend got beef and vegetables and said it had a funny taste and smell. Avoid this place.

going to south bend for traveling. looking for chinese food around and i found this restaurant. really good service and food. and the most important thing is the ambience is really really cozy and lovely. the only thing was disturbing me is the staff wardrobe behind the front desk. however definitely will come back here.
