My only wish is that they had more side options. The grilled veggies come with a lot of colorful peppers, which I’m not a fan of. Since the veggies seem to come pre cut mixed, you can’t really ask for no peppers or swap in different vegetables.
Overall though, the steak is consistently excellent, and that’s why I keep coming back.
I started with the Monterrey cocktail and a side of Tajin ribs. The cocktail was amazing, tasted just like a rellenito tamarind Mexican candy. Just watch out, they’re so good it’s easy to forget how many you’ve had lol
The Tajin ribs were disappointing. The Tajin is just too harsh and salty to properly enjoy the flavor of the meat. I can see why a beer pairing is recommended, however I’d rather have a good tasting $25 appetizer than a well paired $5 beer. Yes the rib appetizer runs $25, I’ll get to that later.
For my main, I got the sirloin steak served on a cutting board and the steak volcanos. The meat was really tender and full of flavor. Side of guacamole and 2 quesadillas came with the order, but no tortillas at all. I asked for 2 corn tortillas and got charged extra which was very nickel and dimey given the $33 price tag. Overall the food was very delicious along with the cocktails, but the price tag is waayy too steep for the portion size.
I ended up spending $300 for a family of 5. Going to a Brazilian steakhouse like Fogo de Chao or Texas de Brazil costs about $225. I still recommend trying out Tu Asador at least once, but make it a mom and dad trip ONLY, it’s not worth it bringing the kids and having them not like the $25+ meal you get for them.
We did the Tu Asador Experience where you order what meats you want and they place it on a large board for family sharing. No issue with the price of meats and they were good and cooked perfect. Food came out timely and it was a free for all.
Dessert: we ordered the Mostachon and those were so good, each plate was cleaned out.
The atmosphere was nice and didn’t get loud. Since it was on a Tuesday, it was not too busy but I can see this place get packed.
What made it pricey:
– lemonade was $10 plus $1 for flavoring (example cucumber lemonade)
– papas asada where I think the baked potato was $9 as a starter but they charged $4 for bacon and $2 cheese.
– salsa sampler $4 was not needed and best to go with chimichurri de piquin $3 (we ordered both)
Theres more but don’t want to scare who is reading this. I just warn you to watch what you order so as not to pay more.
The service is excellent every time. The staff is always checking in to make sure you’re not missing anything and that everything is just right.
The drinks are great as long as you know what you’re ordering, and if you don’t, the staff is more than happy to recommend popular options. My personal favorites are the Cola de Caballo and Presa La Boca.
The menu offers a nice variety, but their specialty is definitely the tablas, which are perfect for sharing and really showcase what they do best.
Overall, even though it’s on the higher price range, it’s absolutely worth it. On top of that, they frequently have events and specials going on, which makes it even better.
Highly recommend!
The waitress was nice and friendly and was considerate enough to see if we wanted dessert before they closed the kitchen for the night.
The food was amazing. I’ve never had a baked potato with such a nice cooked crispy layer than was just made for eating. It reminded me of their complimentary chips which were also different but very welcomed. The steak was cooked to perfection.
Overall, it was a great experience with the most delicious food that I’ve had in San Antonio. Check it out if you get the chance.
Don’t forget dessert and try the mostachon.
Thank your Regina for making our experience memorable.
