Social Profile:

The French Pantry can trace its iconic Northeast Florida roots more than 20 years to 1995 when the original owners, Tim and Barbara Felver, moved across the country from California, leaving behind careers working alongside the likes of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck (who became a close friend) and legendary pastry chef Mary Bergin. With a passion and knack for culinary arts, the couple set out to build their next venture — a commercial baking business in a modest warehouse on Powers Avenue near Wolfson High School.

Fans line up at this weekday lunch spot offering baked goods & cafe fare in a quaint space.

I am editing my review and increasing the overall score from 3 stars ⭐ to four stars ⭐. My original review is below the line. The reason for the edit is because the owner was so responsive on here (Google) and made changes to improve the experience for the patrons. While I have not (yet) returned to see the changes, the mere fact that they listened and immediately implemented some things to make inside dining more enjoyable, that’s pretty big. After I return, I’m happy to make any additional changes to the other areas of my review.

It was my first time going and I ate inside. You order at the desk and they bring your food. You don’t pick where you want to sit and they do “family style” seating so we were sat next to some strangers. It was a bit weird for me. Additionally, the space was tight so I kept having to move my chair in and lean over my food when the people wanted to pass by and also when the waitress was bringing the food to the guests sitting at the same table. We were not there for a prolonged length of time, just over an hour.

I had to continually move my chair and lean over the table throughout my meal. When the guests that were originally there left, when the waitress was cleaning their area, when new guests arrived, when they brought the new guests food. It was a lot. Even the strangers that were seated at the table made comments about how many times I had to move, how right the space was, and they were apologetic. It may be best to have a large group so you can occupy an entire table, but then I’m not sure how long you would wait to be seated while waiting for an entire table to be empty since it’s multiple parties at one table.

My food wasn’t right and no one came to check and see if everything was okay, so I went back up to the counter and had to wait behind 2 other people with my plate, while they were ordering (I don’t have an issue waiting, it’s the fact that there were 2 other people behind the counter and another register and they didn’t step forward to assist)

It was pricier than expected as well. I don’t mind spending money on good food (and it wasn’t gross, not at all, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea). My friend and I ordered 1 appetizer, 2 sandwiches, a salad, a sweet tea and lemonade and it cost about $80 not including tip.

If I returned, it would be for dessert because I didn’t try any and my friend said they were good.

The French Pantry is very refreshing. The atmosphere is laid back. I’m from Louisiana and when I tell you the French baguettes are epic! Oh my goodness!
I’m not a big bread fan but it’s something about fresh bread. This restaurant is a must try. The service ans the food is always consistent.

Been here throughout the years, grown and expanded. Food was delicious, went at little before 11 on a Friday to best the lunch rush. Service was great, you place order at counter and they will tell you which table to sit at. You may get a private table, you may sit with strangers, it is up to you if you wish to interact with them. The food has been consistently great. Staff is pleasant and helpful. Very clean. You can buy baked goods there, desserts looked delicious, but we had no room for it. A must stop if in Jacksonville, open for lunch.

I was driving in the area right before they opened and I didn’t see anyone waiting at the door so we went for lunch. Quick service and great food! I wish they had prices for each item in the showcase. (These pictures are from June 2023)

The food! The food! The food! Nothing was good to eat here! I love French food but this wasn’t it. I was deeply saddened about this place. For so many people recommended for me to check them out. However, the food was not tasty. The food was oily, watery and tasted so bland that all I could do was take a picture and leave it there. The service was very nice and they were pleasant to have and be serviced by. But it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Would I try them again…no

I was so excited to bring the Ambassadors to this location as we conclude our learning experience about French culture and unfortunately they will not discover how an allegiance was formed that created a lifelong comrade between France and America on this trip. I was delighted that the food quality remains great but the standard of service especially the blond employee with the blue shirt was anything but cordial and really was disappointing.

Anyhow, this remains the best bread, sandwiches and salad experience despite the off personality and maybe that will improve before our next visit.

Stumbled on this place running errands. Kind of an odd outside building but man the food here is amazing.

That Turkey Gouda sandwich was the bomb! Along with complimentary bread brought out before your meal.

The fries and sweet tea were also a hit!
Will definitely have to make ourway back here again

Such a random spot for a “French” pantry – it looks like a warehouse pantry from the outside driving in and we almost missed it. The food is delicious though.

Order at the counter as soon as you walk in. Their big menu doesn’t have prices listed, but if you get to the counter they have small menus with the prices listed. Once you put your order in, they will tell you where to sit, and set your table with the dinks ordered. They will also bring out the food. So service is half service. We opted to leave a cash tip after the meal rather than pay for it when we ordered the food.

Breads
We ordered a bunch of food and shared, and I must say everything was good. They do give you a basket of bread as starters, and I wasn’t wowed. But their bruschetta came on French baguettes that were delicious. The sandwiches came on breads that weren’t anything special, and the hot pastrami had a nice looking slice.

As for the food, the hot pastrami was really quite delicious.
Bruschetta were like a salad in the middle with salsa on top, with 4 pieces of baguettes topped with ordered toppings. I really liked the boom boom shrimp, but not overly excited with the prusciuto and artichokes.

Carrot cake was on pint, while the chocolate croissant was so-so.

Overall, the servers were very nice, the place was not necessarily cute or vibey but clean and functional, the food was good and we had a great time.

No matter when you go, there is always a line out the door! The French Pantry is definitely a Jacksonville must-try. The portions are generous, the table bread is delicious, and the desserts are amazing! There is a large menu to choose from, and it’s hard to go wrong. I definitely recommend any of their bruschettas and their blueberry cheese tart. The service is also wonderful, and the food does not take long to arrive after being ordered. Highly recommend!

This is such a cool restaurant! Located in an industrial area, it’s a Parisian oasis in Jacksonville. They make and sell their breads, and their sandwiches are insanely good. I got the muffeletta, it was bursting with meat that was tender, fatty and crispy all at the same time. I was full for the entire day. The atmosphere is old school French, you order at the counter and by the time you’re finished ordering, they have your table set with drinks. You might have to share a table with others, just part of the charm. We got here for lunch before 11 am and the place was already half full. The staff are really nice, and it’s very unpretentious. And so good!
