I keep passing by El Bohio as I drive on Federal Highway (US1), and today I stopped for lunch. What a nice surprise for an authentic Cuban Sandwich and a homemade pastelito of guava and cheese. The Sandwich was yummy on traditional pressed bread and filled with pork, cheese, pickles, and served piping hot. For $1 more during weekday lunch hours, you also get fries (crispy potato sticks) and a cold soda. I asked if the pastry was made here and indeed, they are each morning. For a couple of bucks, you get a delicious, large guava and cream cheese delight.
So happy I finally stopped by….won’t be just passing by anymore when I come this way….
PS, The servers were just fantastic and kind. Made you feel like home.

I had media Noche and Cubano sandwich. Both were good. Decently priced for good food and good portion size. Would definitely come back again if I’m in the area. Staff speaks English and Spanish. The mango juice was delicious!!

El Bohío is a hidden gem. Authentic Cuban flavors, generous portions, and a welcoming vibe. Everything tastes homemade and full of soul.
A must-visit for classic Cuban food done right.

12/15/24—-Updated on 12/23/24—-The day after we disembarked from our cruise, I woke up feeling like I’d survived a marathon—probably because disembarking was its own marathon. Add to that the adventure of waiting 7 hours for a hotel room (thank Christ we were moved to a better one!), and you can imagine the kind of exhaustion I was dealing with.
Anyway, as my Florida trip was winding down, I found myself savoring a good cup of café con leche and realizing I still had one more chance for some authentic Cuban food. So, despite an office Christmas party looming on the horizon, I decided to sneak in an early breakfast. The plan? Eat early, digest everything, and show up at the party looking respectable (and not stuffed like a cruise ship buffet victim).
The Cuban joint we found was just beyond some train tracks, which felt oddly charming. The restaurant was small and cozy, with a wine rack in the corner and windows so wide open you could see and feel everything happening outside. A little chilly? Sure. But I kind of liked it—it added character. We were probably the first customers of the day, which meant the birds hanging around outside noticed us too. One even hopped over, looking curious but refusing to dine with us. Guess we weren’t bird-friendly enough!
Breakfast was great—big portions, of course. My husband actually begged for a smaller serving but was politely denied. After a cruise and three days in Florida, we weren’t exactly in the mood for giant plates of food, but it seems no restaurant believes in “small portions.” Maybe they think the leftovers are part of the experience.
The coffee was excellent—rich and smooth—and the service was just as good. Prices were comfortable too, which is always a bonus. Would I go back? Definitely, if I’m in town and nearby. I’ve also started to enjoy revisiting the same places because, let’s be real, it saves me the effort of writing a new review!

Grew up in S. Florida but moved away years ago I was craving authentic Cuban food and El Bohio didn’t disappoint. Brought back so many great memories. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Staff always had a smile.

Been coming here for over 13 years. Has always been and still is a great spot for some coffee and food. Love this place truly. Big fan of the coladas and pastries and empanadas. Quick service. Close to train tracks

You CAN NOT go wrong eating here. Best “bang for your buck” when it comes to Cuban food in the US ;NYC, NJ Hudson, Passic, Bergen counties, and Pennsylvania in the Mt. Pocono region plus Miami Dade county and Palm Beach County. Prove me wrong. This visit, a Monday night , i ordered ox tail, white rice, black beans, a Heineken 00 (non alcohol beer), a Perrier and for an extra $1 USD i paid under $33 USD. BEST value, great tasting, excellent service, and an amazingly FL Cuban decoration…lol. ~ vea

El Bohio was delicious and authentic! I loved the decor, and the staff was very friendly. We had Cuban sandwiches and a tamale. The sandwiches were great but would suggest asking for extra sauce as it was a bit dry. On my quest for the perfect Cuban I would rate this sandwich a 3.5.
Their homemade hot sauce however, was amazing! It wasn’t too spicy but had great flavor. The tamale was good as well, I personally like them with a little more meat but for the price you can’t beat it.
I would definitely return here when I’m back in the area!

I’m Hispanic and been eating Cuban food for over 50 years. This was the absolute worst breaded steak I’ve ever had! The steak was very dry, no flavor, and came without any plantains. I NEVER complain about food from a restaurant because I know how hard the staff work, but this was beyond unacceptable to call this meal from the restaurant “Cuban”. Please don’t ever order from them unless you want to waste your money and left with a feeling of disappointment. I have no reason to lie … I hope someone reads this review and orders from a real restaurant.
