Star ratings. 1 bad. 2 below average. 3 average / neutral. 4 good. 5 excellent.
Not much to say. Good fried chicken. Reasonably priced. Get the quarter unless you want leftovers. Crackling’s are a must. If you haven’t been here it’s a bit different. Stand in line soon as you walk in and someone will come by periodically and take your order. Once your order is ready then you’ll be sat. Great selection of regional beers. Standard service and don’t make a mistake that just bc you don’t have a server tending to you while you wait that they’re job is easier. They are running their butt’s off. Place has an old classic feel. Some updating keeping with the older look could be done. Video gaming also available.

Chicken is really good it’s juicy they use a thin badder. Some places use just a flour coating. It’s in the middle of nowhere, lol! But it’s like stepping back in time, 1,200 people in the town we parked on the street and there was no one anywhere around it was so relaxing! When most everywhere you go is just a rush and packed out in ladd it’s quiet you can see the stars it was like being in a small town in Tennessee or Mississippi great little town. Little bit of a ride for us hr 10 min or so. Back to the food . It’s a small place long line but you order in line then when it’s your turn to sit they get you and you’re off. They serve pickles with the badder droppings that fall off the chicken it’s like a crumble, and you eat it with the pickles pretty good for being so simple. Small menu, but it’s really good chicken. It’s definitely worth trying it at least once for a decent drive. If I lived in Ottawa or Morris, I would be there frequently. The waitress was really cool. And i’m pretty sure the locals knew we weren’t from there lol! Everyone knows everyone out there it’s that small. Maybe 5 min off the interstate.

I’ve been wanting to eat here for over 20 years but it never quite worked out, so on 12/10/2025 I was able to make it happen. A friend of mine grew up near here and raved about the chicken, well finally I was in the area yesterday and got to have it. First be aware if you get there at 4:00 when they open, they do not serve food until 4:40. I was offered some pickles and crumbles as I waited which were good. I ordered the Half Mixed (1/4 light and 1/4 dark). I think it was $ 15.00 to 16.00. along with a soda. The total bill minus tip was $ 21.00 so very reasonable. Be aware NO silverware. If I knew that I might have brought my own. It would have been so much easier eating the crumbles with a spoon/fork. Also since the chicken was so hot I burned my fingers a few times. The chicken came out piping hot, the fries not so much. The chicken was placed on a couple of thin slices of bread. I thought the chicken was excellent but I do not know if I could say it was the best I ever had. The prices were very reasonable and if I’m in the area again I would stop by and have it. Be aware CASH ONLY.

I’ve heard so much about how delicious their food is. I was in town visiting my friend’s family. Stopped by for take out. There’s something to be said about fried chicken from the Midwest. It lived up to the hype. So Delicious!! So much food and the right amount of grease It will be a favorite each time we come to town.

Very Affordable.
Local Restaurant in a little Town. Well know and visited by many, quite often. Longer waits during “Rush Hours” but they move the wait line fairly well. Seems the slowness is due to the time it takes chicken to be made. Hey, Perfection Takes Time.
Not sure if they sell anything but Fried Chicken Dinners.
Delicious.
Hey, plan on a little wait and chill. There is a bar for pop, beer and drinks.
Street parking.
We usually visit after spending the day at Starved Rock State Park.
Be Well.

Asked for a menu, wasn’t given one. Asked about specials..waitress answered Chicken, Asked about kids menu. .chicken. So we ordered chicken. she asked want fried pickles, I said no thanks, she didn’t offer us anything else. But yet I seen other customers with different items. Didn’t see her again until chicken was cooked. Asked her about some dipping sauce for the kids chicken strips..she acted like it was a chore. Came back with some and NEVER CAME BACK, not to ask, is everything alright, would u like drinks refilled, nothing!!!! And both of us wanted refills. Until she was ready to put ticket down on table. Not a, have a good night, nothing. I’m a retired waitress. I dislike not leaving a tip, but I even more dislike being ignored, forgotten about at a restaurant. Well tonight..I DID NOT TIP!

Used to come here as a kid back in the 70’s before the fire. Over 40 yrs later it seems to have slipped a little. Unfortunately they seem to be feeling the post Covid blues of nobody wants to work anymore. They were very understaffed on a Wednesday. They had a bake sale taking up too much space in the waiting area. Between the bar area and where you stand in line there just wasn’t much space especially for our older parents. As for the chicken, well, it just isn’t as good as it used to be. The crispy crunchies are still good. The fries in my opinion suck. They are horrible. Soggy and limp. This time our chicken was over cooked. The next time we come back home we will probably try somewhere else.

Family friendly environment, also has areas restricted for 21+ for gaming. I was disappointed that the fries had no salt and the chicken had no flavor. The portions were good for the prize but food lacked flavor. I honestly would not go back.

Hot and tasty fried chicken made fresh! Attentive and friendly staff.
The chicken and onion rings were great.
The crunchies put Long John Silver’s to shame.
Good coleslaw.
Soggy French fries; not my favorite style.
Overall a pretty good value.
Best fried chicken in the state? I’ll have to let you judge for yourself.
