Social Profile:

In 1999 Chef/owner, Tony Hua, opened the first Hard Knox Cafe with one simple concept in mind — to offer guests a taste of soul food and lots of it. He believed that food is a great medium that brings people together to enjoy not just the food but each other. His passion for food and people transformed Hard Knox Cafe into what it is today. After 9 successful years in the Dog Patch district of San Francisco, Tony opened a second location in the Richmond district of San Francisco.

Southern fare like ribs, fried chicken & cornbread muffins dished out in a funky, down-home setting.

This is a ghost kitchen!!! Please at least remove the images of the brick and mortar signs, tables, environment. It led me to believe I could walk in and sit down for a bite. I loved the food when I went to a different locarion previously, but was extremely disappointed to make the long walk from where I was in the city to arrive here, just to see a mass market pick-up only place; a ghost kitchen.

Food is not good.. Taste kind of bland. Pork chop extremely soft no flavor and cornbread is good. Yams are old. I would not recommend this place. Fast delivery, no utensils given.

Great food with excellent service! Definitely the go to spot for soul food. Parking can get a bit difficult but there are spot of the streets parallel to Hard Knox Cafe. Good selection of beers and definitely filling with their generous portion sizes. It can get a bit busy, so it’s really recommend to come a bit earlier due to their limited seating

I’m from Philadelphia, Pa and was in San Francisco for work. I stopped in, the staff was welcoming. I ordered the blackened catfish, collard greens and candied yams. Everything was delicious! No take home box needed. What I needed was a pillow; I was stuffed. Even the cornbread muffins were great. I highly recommend this place. I may go again before my work trip is over.

I ordered 12 pieces of chicken with the sides on door dash and the chicken was still piping hot and crispy upon arrival. I don’t know if the stars aligned tonight or what but the chicken was absolutely perfect for having been delivered.

I’m new to the Bay Area and had been craving soul food for awhile. Today I decided to take a drive to the city and try this place out. Let me just say they did not disappoint. I had the chicken and waffles with a side of collard greens, cabbage and candied yams. It was a little pricey but was worth every penny. I have definitely found my new spot for feel good food! Oh and the staff was nice and friendly and I did not dine in but the environment looked welcoming and comfortable. Next time I will stay to eat. The only down side is that it is hard to find parking but once you do it is totally worth it. Highly recommend this place for soul food.

I usually don’t like corn bread but this one was nice, soft and warm. Got Country Fried Steak with collard greens and mac n cheese. Delicious.

Waiting area inside is cramped and the waiting area outside is next to a dumpster. No place to sit or eat. No restroom.

You wait to pick up your order at the counter but they need a bell on the counter.

They serve hot tea in a styrofoam cup using plastic tea bags. $2.25

Chicken, fries, and red beans are so so.

Burgers and fried chicken!

Came here for lunch and the food came out relatively quick. Got the spicy Cajun and friend got fried chicken with Mac’n’cheese. Definitely try the corn bread they bring out first, tastes amazing.

They also have a wide beer selection, not like a brewery but ‘nice to haves’ for a joint like this. Would definitely come again, staff was super friendly and food tasted great!

I used their shelter in place delivery a lot when most cafes restaurants were delivery or pick up
Their deliveries were fast ⏩ and surprisingly the food was still piping hot. I enjoyed each time it was ordered. Today I went face to face and checked out the old rustic memorabilia decor plus a giant size Television behind the counter it was easy to locate once I got the bus operator to let me off. I enjoyed my meal
The staff was attentive and were busy that was a plus
