I’ve been here a few times, and it’s a solid spot. Craving steak, orange chicken, or sushi? They’ve got you covered. The rice in the dining area (not the hibachi section) can sometimes be a bit mushy and bland, but the soup and salad are always on point. The restaurant has a great vibe that works for any occasion.

My girlfriend found this place by accident when we were in Madison and let me say the experience was amazing! We loved the look of the restaurant and the great energy it has. Our waiter was Andy you would have thought he had been there for ten year not two months. He was the best waiter we have ever had so amazing he made the whole experience come together. I would recommend everyone to eat here the food was excellent!

The food was great. Service was very strange. Bartender was kind but the server was not very warm and visibly rolled his eyes at our group when asking if we wanted to split the bill (offered several times btw). We also mentioned it was our friend’s birthday; figuring she would get an extra serving of saki or just something fun. She got a birthday dessert but they failed to mention that they would put it on HER tab, was very weird and they served a dessert without consulting her or us about it first. They also failed to mention the gratuity involved on the bill already which felt very intentional. Do better.

Came on Saturday party of 10. We did the hibachi grill. The chef was excellent. Food was excellent but for the down size. Where is your bartender. We had to ask the hostess to get us drink. At table never asked if we wanted drink refills. And how about desserts. Those are good add one to the restaurant. We will be back but improve on those things

the bathroom has consistently smelled like sewage. tonight the odor was strong enough to be perceived at the entrance/exit doors. it seems to be a problem that is worse every time we go. tonight we were served the salad and soup we normally enjoy. the salad was very heavy on the dressing compared to usual. normally the soup and salad are top notch. my hibachi meal was cold quickly after receiving it, probably because it felt so cold in the building like air conditioning was on. this happened to me last time i ordered hibachi as well.. it was cold right away. my california roll was good as usual. i think if i return i might have to just order the rolls because with the cold temperature, the hibachi has been disappointing. we’ve patroned sumo for years, always in the dining room for a more intimate environment, & although the art and decor are nice- the building is consistently too cold (i leave my winter coat on while i eat) & the bathroom smell is consistently very unappetizing, consistent areas of improvement.

We came here to celebrate our children’s birthdays and were really looking forward to a fun hibachi experience. We were seated fairly quickly, and both the hostess and our server were kind throughout the night.

Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was very disappointing. We waited close to an hour for our chef to arrive, and later learned there were only two chefs on staff. When the chef did arrive, it became clear there was an issue with our grill. The chef left and went to another table, and we were told to wait while the grill warmed up. What we were told would be a short delay turned into an additional 30 minutes.

During this time, two tables that were seated after us were served before us. We also noticed another table receiving salads while we hadn’t received ours yet and had to ask the host about it. By this point, we had been sitting for about an hour and a half, and our kids were extremely hungry, especially our one-year-old.

When we spoke with management, the response was frustrating. Instead of acknowledging the situation, they argued with us about the order of service and told us we just needed to keep waiting. We were offered complimentary crab rangoons, which was appreciated, but it didn’t really address the overall issue or how long we had been waiting.

When the chef finally cooked our meal, the food itself was underwhelming. The rice had hard pieces in it and the steak was tough. At that point, we didn’t want to complain anymore, we just ate quickly, paid, and left.
I want to be clear that the server, hostess, and chef were all very nice and did their best. The main issue was how management handled the situation. This could have been resolved much better by moving us to a working grill right away, or at the very least offering a comp or meaningful discount on the meal given the long delay.

Unfortunately, because of this experience, we don’t plan to return.

I’ve been coming here for years but last night will be the last. Made a reservation for 7 still made our party wait with a buzzer to be called up. When ordering the server was very rude and rushed us after he informed us after looking at the menu for 15 mins that its only hibachi tonight. Half the table franticly picked somthing because he ignored our request for more time to look at the menu since we could only choose from hibachi. 2 random people were added on to our 10 person party which is a full habachi table so they sat almost at the other grill behind the chef. With the added 2 people you would think to portion out more rice and vegetables that did not happen we were all shorted on rice and vegetables ive been coming for years I know what your portions are. The meats were undercooked im extremely sick today. One of our party does not eat meat she orderd vegetables and fried rice but because you didn’t portion out enough rice or vegetables she had a ⅓ of a plate of just half a spatula of rice and vegetables not okay. No offers to fix anything or make more rice and vegetables. We all got half of what your portions are but still had to pay full price for less food then you get for 7 dollars at the mall. Im extremely dissapointed with our server not only was he rude but he never came back untill it was time to pay all our drinks were empty before our food was done I had to walk up to the bar to order drinks for my party to which the bartender would respond to me “thats all your getting?” In a very rude and condescending tone multiple transactions and seprate tips bc the server refused to do his job. I orderd the Chicago roll (its deep fried) at the same time as our food. The server finaly came back to the table all food was gone easy to do when you undeserved our portions and all drinks empty he asked would you like the bill to which I asked where my sushi was he quickly ran off as other people at the table were trying to ask for a refill on our drinks, we had to chase after him to get his attention. Aparently you guys are running thin on money bc he brought out a pitcher of water instead or refilling our sodas he came back and dumped water into almost empty sodas. He then comes back with my sushi roll as everyone is getting their coats to leave he tells me it took them so long because they have to deepfry the sushi roll. He said I’ll be back with the checks. I tried one piece of my sushi it was ice cold he let it sit for the whole hour we were there and tried to pass it off like it had just been finished. He comes back with the checks they were all messed up other people’s food added to thier recipt. I tell him the sushi is cold and I dont want it please take it off the check he offers to make me another one as were all ready to leave I told him to just rake it off were leaving. I will never come back to you establishment extremely disappointed. Happy birthday to me.
