We visited Kissner’s on Valentine’s Day with high hopes for a nice evening out. Unfortunately, the experience was mixed.

The salad appeared to be straight from a bag with only a quarter of a tomato as a topping. The green beans tasted like they were canned and simply heated, with no noticeable seasoning. The prime rib itself wasn’t bad — it was actually the best part of the meal — but it lacked seasoning. My husband asked for horseradish (which is pretty standard with prime rib), and we were brought about half a teaspoon in a small cup.

Service was minimal. We were only really checked on at the beginning and the end of the meal. My vodka cranberry tasted almost entirely like cranberry juice, and when my husband ordered a bourbon on the rocks, the staff didn’t seem familiar with the request. They asked if he wanted a shot and ultimately brought out a very small glass with about 1.5 oz of bourbon over ice in what looked like a small soda glass.

Overall, the evening felt underwhelming for a special occasion. We truly wanted to enjoy it, but there were several small details that added up and made the experience disappointing.

The food was great!!! And the restaurant was clean, the bathroom was less impressive but it was ok. The food came out kind of slow but was worth the wait. The music was a great addition and the place looks very old fashioned. Would definitely recommend trying it! 5☆!!!!!

We love this place for casual appetizers, date night, family dinner, or a group gathering for dinner or drinks. This Friday we went late and we’re greeted kindly by a server. Our server, Natalie, was so genuinely sweet and took great care of us. She was the perfect about of chatty with us as there weren’t many other people in the restaurant at that time. Our food was excellent, as always. I tried the frog legs for the first time and our salads hit the spot too. I highly recommend this historic downtown staple!

Kissner’s in Defiance, OH, is a true gem! This historic tavern, operating since 1928, offers a delightful step back in time. The original 1903 bar back, ice box, cigar case, and even the bar stools secured to the wooden floor create an atmosphere that’s both nostalgic and inviting. The collection of old photographs and vintage cash register add to the charm. Despite being packed, the service was excellent. My server was friendly and efficient, and my food arrived in just 15 minutes. I opted for the special: ham with potatoes and green beans. The ham steak, about a quarter-inch thick, was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The potatoes, while not the most visually appealing, were surprisingly delicious. This was a wonderful lunch at a very reasonable price, and I can’t wait to return!

Long road trip. We were tired and hungry. Came from Tennessee. Dustin was the ONLY! waiter here that served with a smile and character. It was Halloween night. My husband and I came in for food and 1 beer at 8:20pm. They close at 11pm, and acted very distant and like they “did Not want any customers” it should not matter you guys if it’s a smaller holiday such as Halloween. You Don’t have the right to ignore and act like we aren’t there. That’s total bs. I was the gal in the wheelchair. Please do better. Terrible service on the others end. Completely ignored and no hello when we entered your bar. Dustin was the only nicest waiter there. And made us feel welcome. The rest were in a rush to clean the place and flee. It was very obvious.

My husband and I came in on Halloween night to eat and we were not very impressed. The waiter we had seemed flustered and rushed to get us in and out. My husbands meal portion seemed very small and my meal was just okay. Definitely not worth $40 which included tip.

Reasonabley priced home cooked food. Daily specials . Bar has local draft beer and cocktails. We were there on a Tuesday and it was packed. The spinach salad with hot bacon dressing is delicious. The hot Tom and Jerry seasonal cocktail is delicious and very popular

Building is done-up real nice. The inside was beautiful. We never got to try the food because we felt unwanted as customers, so we left. 2 women this morning were very unwelcoming and rude. As weary travelers who were on the road for 14 hours, only searching for a break and food, we surely got pushed away. We ended up going to McDonald’s which was filthy but got better service. Will not return on our next trip.

Cool place with a historic bar, which was very interesting. Good specials. Nice selection of draft beer. Food portion was plentiful and good. Service was great. The only annoyance was the lack of posted prices. I was interested in two of the specials, which were not posted (not that unusual). But when I asked our waitress the prices of the specials, she said, ‘they vary from $12 to $22’.
