First time coming here, and will make this my new go to spot in town!
From the moment we arrived, Jason, the owner, made us feel like VIP guests. He didn’t just serve us lunch; he gave us a warm, insider’s tour of the town itself, sharing local history, hidden gems, and even taking us to his local gun club for a unique taste of Montana culture. His pride for Missoula is contagious, and his hospitality is second to none.
And then there’s the food. Let me put it plainly: this is chicken perfection. The fried chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, and packed with flavor in every bite. It’s the kind of meal that makes you pause mid-bite just to appreciate it. The sides are amazing, too. The portions are generous enough to satisfy even the hungriest traveler.
The café itself has that comfortable, old-Montana charm, with a cozy atmosphere that makes you want to linger long after your plate is clean. Between the hearty food, the warm service, and the small-town character, Double Front Café & Bar is more than just a restaurant — it’s a piece of Missoula’s heart.
Final verdict: 5 stars isn’t enough. Jason and his team deliver not just incredible chicken, but an experience that feels personal, authentic, and unforgettable.
We learned pretty quick that we weren’t there for the service. It wasn’t horrible but just slow, especially when a large table came in after us and got fed first. It made us question our decision to try it.
But then the food came. The sampler was pretty good, nothing fancy and the inside of the popper was cold. The fish and chips were good, wasn’t digging the Cole slaw. The chicken though is where it’s at. The white meat dinner was so juicy and tender but perfectly brown and crisp on the outside. And they leave the wing attached to the breast, such a great idea. We’ll definitely be back!
Second, classic perfectly fried chicken. No special herbs and spices, straightforward yardbird. Moist, flavorful and crunchy.
Fries, mushrooms and o-rings all good as well.
Slaw was fresh and dressed at end, so skip if you’ don’t like crunchy cabbage forward slaw vs “creamy”.
Garden salad is great option vs slaw if prefer.
