A great beachfront restaurant
The service is consistently fast and efficient. Booking in advance allows you to secure some really nice tables in a great setting.
Located directly on the beach, the restaurant offers a lovely view, especially at sunset, which adds to the overall experience.
The cocktails are very good, with a special mention for the Dragon del Mar, which stands out.
The food is good and well prepared.
It quickly became our go-to spot and felt like our regular place throughout the stay.

Didn’t eat, just had their classic margaritas, which were good. Pretty windy, so small flowers kept falling into our beverages despite sitting under a cover. Great view with iguanas visiting at times. Service needs attention. If the place is full, expect at least 20 min+ to get a drink or service.
We parked out atv in the atv area, and of course, there was a guy asking for $ to watch it.
They do not come to your table to pay the bill, you go to the bar. They WILL ask for a tip, but you do not have to add even more $$ to the bill unless you feel they earned it.

We were so hungry that we couldn’t take any photos. But the food was AMAZING, so tasty and healthy, the portions were also soo big.
We had the fish ceviche and the rice with shrimp, so good! Filled with vegetables, with salad and plantain chips.
The service was also flawless, so nice and helpful! Especially Juan!
Don’t hesitate to come if you are around!

Flies were really bad. The food is good, but the service was slow at times. The staff is very friendly and inviting. You go there for the view.

Came with a group of around 10 had a great time. I didn’t eat but would recommend the house special drinks they were all really good and nothing was overpriced. Bartender was amazing. Our group spent a couple hours there and I would definitely come back. The day lockers and ice cream in the back were a welcomed relief as well.

El Carmen absolutely delivers on every level.

First, let’s talk about the Gin & Tonic menu. Creative, refreshing, and beautifully crafted. If you’re a G&T fan, this place is a must. Each offering balanced, and perfectly suited for a Santa Teresa sunset.

We started with the calamari rings served with a sweet pineapple and passion fruit dipping sauce. Bright, tropical, and addictive. A perfect opener. Then came a Blue Cheese Burger cooked just right and packed with flavor. And the chifrijo? Easily one of the best I’ve had in Costa Rica. Authentic, hearty, and deeply satisfying.

Service matters. Darren was on point all night. Attentive without hovering, friendly without forcing it. Genuine laughter, great timing, and exceptional customer service.

The sunset. From our beachfront table, watching the sky melt into the Pacific, honestly, words are not available. You simply have to experience it.

If you’re in Santa Teresa, make a reservation at El Carmen. Ask for Darren, grab a beachfront table, enjoy a perfect Gin & Tonic, and don’t miss the sunset. It’s more than dinner, it’s an experience. Pura Vida.

Went here for lunch. Everything was perfect. Service was great and friendly, food was delicious, and you can’t beat the view, but…
I had an appetizer, a burger and two beers. My bill was $50 US! Shocked.

We came here for a break from the beach and to have a little drink. The view to the shore was great and the drinks were amazing. I especially loved the mists on a hot summer day.
Their beers were good, but I would personally highly recommend getting the Piña Colada!

We managed to eat here two time on our short stay. The chip and guac are amazing and the fish and chips tasted great. Highly recommend this spot. Also a bonus is you can watch the beautiful sunset while eating your dinner and sipping on drinks.
