From the moment you sit down this place is killing it! Not one but two types of bread with maple butter. Their salads that come with dinner are hearty. Don’t think we didn’t notice that crispy Asiago on top… yum. Steaks and lobsters were perfectly cooked. Creamy, perfect au gratin potatoes. The cocktail and mocktail menus are awesome. Mango and espresso martinis were fantastic. I’m picky about my espresso martini and like it not too sweet, not too bitter. This one was perfect! The only thing I didn’t enjoy here was their pear martini- too bitter and not sweet enough. Not on the menu: order the mocktail made with huckleberry and add a shot of vodka. You can thank me later. 😉 Don’t forget to call and make a reservation and request a table next to the windows for the lake view.

My parents have a lake place outside of Detroit Lakes so I bought them a gift card to Spankys for Christmas, when I recieved the gift card they had also gifted us another one for free Just exceptional customer service, you can tell they genuinely care about everyone’s experience.

Wow – what a hidden gem! We met some friends here for dinner as it was a half way point between houses, and the menu looked great. We had no idea what we were getting into, especially driving off the highway into a rural ish area, but we were blown away! The ambiance is very welcoming, with a lodge type feel, and had it not been evening in November (i.e., very dark) the view of the lake would probably have been great! Drinks were on point and came out very quickly, and the service was excellent. We started with the candied bacon and the meatballs for apps and both were just delicious- the bacon was super thick cut and cooked perfectly! We were all impressed with our meals and look forward going back!

Spank’s is simply a Minnesota gem!!! We had 3 vegetarians who all ordered the “Vegetarian Trust Me” and all 3 said it was the best vegetarian meal they have ever had at a restaurant. Two friends in the group were back a 2nd time in two weeks. I had the regular “Trust Me “ and it was outstanding. Or server Christina was very pleasant and very helpful. She did a great job!! Emily the chef came out to check on us because of the 4 Trust Me meals ordered and she too was wonderful!! Go to Spanky’s on Rose Lake it is just great!!

We try to make it to Spanky’s a couple times a year. The food is outstanding and service is too. We had a young waiter this time and he seemed new. He was fine, just not the service we are used to. Our table had the filet Oscar, trust me, and prime rib. Corking fee was $15, but did not get a cooler to keep the wine chilled, so that is why I’m giving 4 stars. Spanky’s is one of the best values for fine dining!

My wife and I chose Spankys to cater our wedding in Alexandria. We were outside of the typical travel range so it did come with an extra cost, but it was definitely worth it. The food was great, and we decided to have a family style meal. Each worker had a great demeanor and an unforced smile on their face while serving our guests. Not a single issue was brought up during the day and the in/out of Spankys was smooth. Will travel from the metro yearly to have a special meal at the lake.

Fabulous finer dining that’s still family friendly in the Detroit Lakes area. Amazing view, knowledgeable waiters, and fantastic food. I highly recommend the “Trust Me” item on the menu! It’s a chef’s choice, off menu platter. I received a perfectly cooked tri-tip steak full of flavor and a large filet of cod on a bed of rice, with a side of fresh vegetables. If you’re a fish fan, the walleye fries are perfect: crispy, fresh and delicious. I also recommend the meatballs as an appetizer. The Hawaiian chicken was also amazing, crispy coconut coating, and a mango salsa. The king crab leg was a splurge, but it was massive and so full of meat. The daily special menu featured a good selection including a pineapple crusher which tasted like island dreams. The jalepeno margarita was perfect, just enough spice to be enjoyable. I would definitely come back!
