First time trying Taco John’s, and I want to be clear right up front: the staff was friendly, the dining area was clean, and it was very quiet inside. That part was genuinely nice.
I ordered the two soft shell tacos and the value nacho burrito with beef. I understand I may not have experienced the full menu, but based on what I tried, the food itself was pretty underwhelming for the price.
The beef had a texture and flavor that reminded me of fried okra, if you removed the seeds, skipped the frying, and instead gently simmered it for several hours with very little seasoning and a noticeable amount of starch. The tacos were generously filled with lettuce, so at least there was volume.
I tried all three sauces: original, mild, and hot. They were all impressively restrained. No heat, no punch, no real flavor. Just kind of present, like they didn’t want to inconvenience anyone.
The value burrito was surprisingly thin and pressed flat, which made me pause and reconsider what fast food value means in 2025 versus what it meant sometime around 2008. That was an uncomfortable moment for the burrito.
The highlight of the meal was the potato rounds and a Mug Root Beer. Salt still works, and carbonation continues to do its job.
Overall, the restaurant itself is fine and the people are great. But you come here for the food, and for me, the food didn’t quite justify the cost. This may be fantastic if you grew up with it. As an outsider, it felt polite, nostalgic, and a little too comfortable being bland.

I always like to eat inside with my kids and it’s never disappoints. Very clean! the staff is noticeably kind and patient. They have meal deals that are as cheap as the other fast food taco place. But honestly, Taco Jaohns always tastes so much better. Love!

But if youre going through the drive thru, make sure you check your bag unless you want to come driving right back once you get home to find youre missing items you ordered, or have someone else’s order entirely.
Multiple times I’ve had to come back because things were missing or wrong.
The staff is nice but more attention should be paid to getting us our food, accurately.

1st time at a Taco John’s – comparing it to Taco Bell, “it’s ok” which is 3 stars..
The service was welcoming & friendly!
We ordered & shared 4 items off the “ValuEST” for $11.91 total:
▪︎ My favorite was the $3 Spicy Chicken & Potato Griller, I would not order the other 3 items again because the $2 Cheesy Beef & Potato Taco was teeny tiny (barely any beef & literally half the size of the other 3 items! I thought maybe they made a mistake until I pulled it apart & saw potatoes with barely any beef), $2.29 Bean Burrito was mostly all beans, & for $4 you didn’t really taste the thin steak in the Spicy Steak & Potato Griller.
▪︎ My husband’s favorites were $3 Spicy Chicken & Potato Griller, then the $4 Spicy Steak & Potato Griller.
The hot & mild sauce packets are both good.
In conclusion, Taco Bell does their value menu better & cheaper. I wondered why the Taco Bell nearby was rated better on gmaps. Now I know

Food wasn’t any good, the portions were small, there was hardly any meat in the quesadillas and they could’ve been left on the grill longer to at least melt the cheese. The papas were the only decent food item.
The service was below average, we weren’t greeted, and when I told them it was our first time they didn’t recommend anything or give any input. The drinks all tasted like they needed to be changed and the bathroom was dirty. I saw a lot of Taco Johns as I was traveling so I thought I’d check them out. Stopping here was a waste of time and money. I do not recommend and will not return.

Getting here with construction was a nightmare. The lot was quite dirty, the drive thru staff were pleasant, the food was fine, fairly expensive for what you get, the super nachos used to come on a platter and now a tiny box for $7.00. Overpriced for sure.
