J Peters Restaurant Review in Mauldin – Facebook
Reviews
We went on a Friday evening just after 8:00.
I was surprised by the lack of diners. Then I saw the restaurant does close at 9:00 PM.
The service was excellent. We were seated immediately. Our server greeted us and took our drink order promptly. The appetizer came out quickly and we had adequate time to finish it before the entre.
For the appetizer we ordered the Jalapeño Queso. The jalapeño added a nice but soft kick of heat. The chips were crisp.
My wife ordered the Blackened Chicken Alfredo. It came on a penne pasta and had great flavor. We would absolutely order it again.
I ordered the 10 oz Sirloin Steak with the loaded mashed potatoes.
The steak was cooked perfectly, has a great season, and was much more tender than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised.
I would absolutely order this again as well.
My two complaints:
– Our table was not bussed properly beforehand. There were a few bigger food crumbs and sticky spots.
– The bar tender had three or four patrons at the bar, and decided he needed to talk extremely loud the whole time (we were not at the bar).
Update – still excellent service! Food was great and portions were large! No wait on a Saturday night. Best prime rib dip sandwich in town!
J Peters ruined my wife’s birthday dinner, served raw meat, and still hasn’t issued the refund they promised. Here’s exactly what happened.
I ordered two medium-rare prime rib dinners during the snowstorm. They were friendly on the phone, and I appreciated that they stayed open. When I arrived, they immediately acknowledged that a $111 gratuity had been mistakenly added to my $80 to-go order. I’m glad they caught it — but let’s be honest, that kind of “mistake” is still concerning. They reversed it, ran my card again, and I still left a $20 tip trying to support them.
Then I got home.
What they served wasn’t medium-rare. It wasn’t rare. It wasn’t remotely safe. It was cold, raw, red-purple meat that looked like it had never been cooked through or even brought to temperature. Completely inedible and honestly stomach-turning. I’ve eaten rare beef my whole life — this was not that. This was improperly handled meat that should never leave a kitchen.
Birthday dinner: ruined.
I went in the next day with photos. The manager admitted the problem and said they could either remake the meals (after that disaster? no thank you) or wait for the GM to process a refund the next day.
Well, today came and went.
No refund. No call. No resolution.
At this point it’s clear:
The $111 tip “accident”,
The raw, unsafe prime rib,
The ruined birthday, and
The broken refund promises
…reflect serious issues with training, food handling, and management accountability.
I’m not sure if J Peters even has a corporate office — but I am sure the food inspector would be very interested in the photos of what they served as “medium-rare.” No restaurant should be sending out meat in that condition.
I don’t take writing reviews like this lightly, but people deserve to know what happened.
