I took my 5 year old son and I to Geisha house to celebrate my birthday. I knew on Wednesday kids eat free (shame on me for not reading After 4pm) so I knew I would pay for his meal, no big deal. Food was good, chef was nice…and we tipped him $5 in cash once he left. We continued our meal, asked for the check, and I was SHOCKED to see that there was an 18% auto gratuity. I asked the server when this auto-gratuity started, and he says it’s always there for parties of 6 or more. I told him my party was for only 2 people…one adult and one child. He said collectively the whole table counts as the party size…FYI the other party was of 4 (who happens to be Vietnam Vets and their spouses). You can even see on my receipt they put the guest count as 6…which I feel is wrong.
The hostess intentionally tries to fill the grill table before assigning a chef (which I completely understand), but to charge auto-gratuity for a large party, when you’re combining smaller parties to create that threshold is WRONG!
I’m very disappointed with this discovery. I frequent Geisha House at least every other month, but I don’t know if I can anymore. I did not inform the other party of this finding, but I do know that they tipped the chef $20 ($10 per couple) and I’m unsure how much they tipped on the receipt.
I wonder how many patrons have “doubled or overtipped” unbeknownst to them.
We also had to make a reservation, so the hostess new the headcount, and didn’t inform the table of this policy.
Ok, we finally get to order. We order lunch specials, salmon asparagus salad (10 out of 10, so good!!!!), hibachi shrimp and chicken and it comes with fried rice, a small plain salad, soup (also tasty) and 2 different types of sushi rolls. I remember she ordered spicy but I don’t remember what kind.
We received all of the food within 10 minutes. Our favorite was the salmon asparagus salad, get it, it’s so good! The chicken was a little over cooked. The rice and soup were fine. So while we were eating I think someone checked on us once. We were there approximately 45 minutes. We didn’t know if the bill was supposed to be brought to the table or we pay at the register, because we only got checked on once. So we flagged someone down and finally was able to get the bill. We came in right at the opening time, which was 11:30, so I’m not sure why service was so slow. When we did have an encounter with the employees, they were nice.
I will revisit again, why, you guessed it, the salad, lol. The restaurant is located inside a plaza. I actually had to circle a couple times to find a parking spot. The area is nice. The restaurant was clean. They just need to be much better at providing service.
The staff here is so friendly. My waitress took great care of me, I wish I knew her name but I was in on 7/14/25 around 3ish if that helps.
This restaurant is clean, set up nicely and I plan to do one of the Hibachi dinners one of these days!
This is my new go to spot for sushi!
