At our Birmingham, AL location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

They have limited staff so wait time is long but the staff are friendly but over worked. I have seen one person working the cash register in Frontline and the Drive-Thru during lunch hour Rush. It’s appalling to see these people overworked and suffering yet they still maintain the friendly atmosphere and positive attitude.

I’m so disappointed in Captain D’s now! The fish are only thin strips now. They rarely put the crackling in the box. I do actually get a side of it which is still good for the most part.
Unless the fish and hushpuppies are fresh out the grease, it is horrible. The fries have always been terrible. I do enjoy the coleslaw and corn best.
Service is underwhelming. There needs to be some training on professionalism. I have seen people eating at the drive thru and seeing cooks grabbing food out of the bin and eat it.
Captain D’s is still my favorite when it’s done right. As of late the quality and portions are subpar especially for the price? What happened to the coupons that were delivered? A fish and fries is $5.99. I remember it was 2.99 a few years back.
I’ll five it 2.5 belly rubs out of 5.

Third time I’ve been to this location, and it has gotten worse each time. First time they took 45 minutes to get my food, second time they gave me the wrong order and they took forever to give food again and the last time I was in the drive thru and they took very long taking orders and when I get to the window to order, they say drive thru is cash only. Please shut this location down or get new management ASAP

The drive thru associate and order taker was very pleasant. However, the food that I received was undercooked on ALL levels. The fish, shrimp and Okra were all undercooked! It appears as if the worker placed seasoning and butter and sent out the grilled items . I could not go back to the restaurant and get a refund because I was headed to work and I work night shift. Service there is usually not like this as I have been several times. Hopefully this was just a busy day. See attached pictures.

I thought the one that Irondale was bad the one all I had that had an experience at was about the most pitiful excuse for a captain D’s I have ever been to. I wanted the shrimp and fish and chicken but got a two piece fish instead. It wasn’t whiting like it always has been and sure wasn’t golden brown. It was catfish disguised as whiting fish. The fresh fries were interspersed into old fries. The tea has been out too long and had a funny taste and sure wasn’t cold since very little ice.
I will never go back to capt D’s until this is corrected. BTW the staff was more interested in talking and smoking weed than doing their job. Absolutely pitiful experience not to mention the 12 $ it cost me to get there ….

Staff was polite and knowledgeable. Dining area was clean. Food was hot, service could have been faster. One Ketchup pump container was out, the other clearly marked ketchup but had cocktail sauce in it. Out of Dr Pepper and out of Sprite. Aside from that, it was a pleasant trip. Will patronize again.

Terrible lunch!! Line was long and slow in the drive thru so you’d think you would get a hot lunch? Wrong!!! When I got back to my office I discovered 2 tiny pieces of greasy fish, fries, and hushpuppies from a lukewarm/cold 2 piece fish dinner that cost close to $8! To be fair, I have gotten decent food at this location many times b4 but this time left something to be desired. It’ll be a while b4 they will see my face again!
