Tried it a few days ago and had to go again this past weekend. It was absolutely delicious! Both times we had everyone we spoke with be super friendly. Fun environment and was even able to sign the wall.

The Surfing Crab – San Antonio, TX

I placed a to-go order and was impressed with how fast my food was ready—definitely a smooth and efficient experience. The staff greeted me right when I walked in and directed me to the to-go counter, where I was taken care of very quickly. Great customer service on that front.

As for the food, it was hot, fresh, and packed with flavor. Everything was well-seasoned and marinated to perfection, which seafood lovers will appreciate. The portion sizes were generous, especially the potatoes, although they could’ve been cooked a little longer for a better texture. The corn and sausage were sliced paper-thin, and I personally prefer them a bit thicker. Also, unlike the locations in Houston or Corpus Christi, they don’t provide sides of butter, which was a noticeable difference.

Overall, a solid 3-star spot if you truly know your seafood. Great flavors and fast service, but there are a few small things that could be improved.

Story time!
So I’m an over the road TRUCK DRIVER and I stop all over the country to try different foods I ordered from this place via Uber Eats delivery because I had my trailer, I found a place to drop it near the house so I changed it to pickup. I bobtailed to the restaurant to pickup my order and the Manager Zane retrieved my order under the name I gave him(my government name) and as he overlooked the order several times and was clearly confused.. He assumed I was a delivery boy for this company. He asked me to confirm a pickup and I told him sir this is my order personally. I told him I’m a truck driver, He said ok. Then the host then gets involved for no reason and is telling him to check the order and then proceeds to ask me to show her the order. I said to the kid, this is insulting! I’m not a worker, I’m an owner operator of a trucking company! I understand this is a $100 order but it’s already paid for so to keep badgering me on an order you already have been paid for, led me to believe that discrimination had really come in to play. I told them in the notes to pack my wife’s ice cream separately and they still put it right on top. Why would you put cold ice cream on top of hot food?? Anyway I at least gave a few stars because the food was decent enough when I finally got home and sat down with my beer- (of course I asked for napkins and gloves and got neither…)they Could have added some salt to the water of the potatoes or something because it was just seasoning and butter. I got my culinary degree from Le cordon Bleu, so I be knowing. I can’t make a crab boil in the truck but stuff like this is why I cook mostly in the truck. I won’t be back with my hard earned money but y’all enjoy!

Just stopped in looking for good seafood and we weren’t disappointed. In a city where good seafood is hard to find, the Surfing Crab fills that void. The atmosphere is laid back and very relaxed. The food is outstanding and at a fair price. The amount of food for the price is second to none, and really tasty. My only knock was with the service. It wasn’t bad it was just super slow…. our server was great it’s just that he was over loaded with tables meaning he took a LONG time returning to refill our drinks or adding to our meal and to cash out. That isn’t a deal breaker, just be aware that during peak times service may be slow and require a little more patience. All in all this a great place to enjoy good seafood at a decent price. We will be back.

We stopped by around lunchtime, and thankfully it wasn’t very busy. The hostess was on the phone when we arrived but she did acknowledge us and asked for a minute, which is always appreciated. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us time to peruse the menu. When we ordered she noticed our two orders were similar and suggested a combo meal that we could share and saved us a few bucks. I love it when the staff gives menu tips. Food was delicious we ordered a calamari appetizer, nice full basket. I didn’t like the cocktail sauce, too chunky for my taste. We shared the #1 combo, it included shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes. It was just enough food for the two of us. I was a little disappointed with the bathroom, looked like it had just been mopped but definitely not properly cleaned. Trash cans were full and sink area was filthy. I’ll definitely still go back & try something different, their menu looked interesting. If you’re in the area check this place out.

Never again! My son picked this place to celebrate his 28th birthday. We placed over a $100 dine in. Once our food arrived our waiter Rafael S walks over and very loudly asked my husband if he had the mumps!? Customers stopped and waited for his answer. Of course he does NOT! Rafael then never returned to our table to refill drinks or ask if we needed anything else. I had to even walk up to the counter and ask for our bill to pay!! We’re not stupid enough to go out to a public place and infect other people with something as serious as the mumps. People have deformities

This is the kind of place that you leave and have day dreams about the food! I’ve been here three times, all at different time, and have never been disappointed. Each time I have gotten the SA boil with lobster tail, crab, shrimp without the head, sausage, corn on the cob and potatoes. I can’t handle spice, so I get the mild garlic and Old Bay. It is so tasty and juicy! I learned from the first time around to add more corn and potatoes. Be ready to get messy, leave full and to have daydreams about this place! The atmosphere is fun and the staff is always pleasant. Definitely worth the trip!

Was very disappointed. I heard good things so went inside to order.
Good:
The staff was perfect and patient and the restaurant seems very fun and many people inside so I thought I was in for a treat. Also the wait time wasn’t bad.
Bad:
The food was not good. The shrimp was so overcooked it was soft and squishy when you bit into them. (I couldn’t finish it.) The clams were also overdone and still had sand in them. I got the surfing Seasoning and was almost flavorless.
This meal is too expensive for it to be that bad. Maybe I just came at the wrong time, but that was a bad first experience for a $35, one person meal.

Giving ONE STAR because I come here very often. The seafood is SO DELICIOUS, even if they serve old seafood sometimes. I came on a weekend and I always order the same thing “Don julio” but I noticed this time these guys were being stingy and gave us LESS lol. I’m only upset ‘cause of how much it cost and I know damn well we should’ve gotten more than that, I would’ve ordered a meal instead. But the waiters are so nice and attentive, it’s just how greedy and selfish that was!!
