Dropped by the first time and the level of service was very good nice and friendly. My wife enjoyed her Pho and I enjoyed the spring rolls and fried wontons. The fried rice wasn’t the greatest… Very little shrimp and chicken. The washrooms are a little dated and could use some work. Especially the paper towel holder looked like something you would see in a gas station. Overall if you haven’t stopped here to try it out it’s worth a visit.

Some amazing tasting pho! Sate beef and bun bo hue tasted amazing. We’ve been here a few times and prices in this area are generally the same ~$16 for XL/largest size. Largest portion size is worth it for sure.

Overall a pretty average experience. I tried the bun thit nuong, and the meat could have been prepared much better, it lacked char and was on the blander side. The spring rolls were okay.

Good option for Vietnamese if you’re in the area. But pretty on par with most places out there. Food came out fast but they didn’t refill the water unless asked. I remember when Vietnamese also used to be an affordable meal but easy now it’s over $20 pp. Like $10 for salad rolls. Seems clean but old.

The GOAT of takeout and delivery. How they package their phos for takeout is honestly impressive. Their sate phos are definitely some of the best. Flavourful spicy broth. Don’t forget to ask for double or even triple spicy if you’re feeling like it. Eating in isn’t as great but still good. Interior is a bit basic but service is usually just ok but eating it hot is nice. Recommend the phos over the vermicelli and others that is definitely their strong suit. With this place looks past the exterior of the restaurant and be rewarded.

Van Son is an excellent option for Vietnamese, with locations in northwest Calgary and Chestermere. Their peanut sate pho is in my list of the top three in Calgary.

If you are looking for a huge, comforting bowl of goodness, look no further. The broth is incredibly flavourful and quite unique from many other vietnamese restaurants in that it is a creamy coconut base. There are loads of peanut chunks added to the broth, with a very generous portion of beef and noodles. While they do not typically give a large plate of sprouts and basil, they are very accommodating if you request more.

I typically order the beef & beef ball pho while my husband orders the special, and we request to have the peanut sate added. The regular size is huge, while the large size is unbelievably massive – order at your own risk!

As an appetizer, we have tried the pork spring rolls, which we found to be quite greasy.

To switch it up from pho, I have also ordered the mixed vermicelli bowl (pork, chicken and shrimp). It was a very delicious option and the meat was very tender and flavourful. While it is a huge portion, my one critique is that there is a disproportionate amount of vermicelli in comparison to the protein and veggies.

There are loads of booths available, in addition to standard tables and chairs. They appear to be consistently busy with takeout orders as well.

It’s usually a very busy little parking lot, however there is street parking available; just watch for the residential and school parking restrictions in the area.

Absolutely love the quality of Cuisine at Van Son! My family and I love the rich broth and peanut soups. You just can’t get enough! The XL bowls are huge and have tons of meat too. Visit this place!

The 31b is the best of the 3 types of pho we tried. The bun bo hue was good too. The beef and beef ball soup was decent but I’ve had better in other places. Nobody could finish the regular size coz they were huge.

We also had the pork vermicelli which was okay. My hungry husband finished his bowl.

I would highly highly recommend this place for someone craving peanut butter sate pho. I’d come back if that’s what I have a craving for but not if I’m wanting BBH or regular beef pho.

We also tried the fried pork spring rolls which was okay, honestly not the most flavourful but really basic and typical for many Vietnamese restaurants, and the salad rolls (beef) was sub par for me.

Service was fast.

Went here with my family and was thoroughly disappointed. Had the bun bo hue which wasn’t authentic and used pho ingredients. My Vietnamese parents had the pho which I tried and it was alright, not the worst, but far from the best. The decor was alright, but covered in plastic covering which ruined the vibe and aesthetic of the restaurant. The service was friendly and passable. Overall, despite their best efforts, I cannot recommend this place over the vast amount of better options in Calgary.

Really nice people. I got the vegetable tofu with crispy egg noodles #59. Very cool presentation, vegetables were fresh and had a nice bit of crunch but it was way too salty without much flavour. Everyone else got the vermicelli with spring rolls and loved it so i guess I ordered wrong.
