I had a memorable dinner at René. The highlight of the meal was definitely the fish, which was cooked to perfection and paired with sensational sauces. We started with the bread service, which was quite good and a nice way to begin the evening.

Our wine recommendation was spot on the staff clearly knows their cellar well and helped us choose the perfect pairing for our main courses. For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse; it was good and well-executed, though not particularly spectacular compared to the rest of the meal.

The only downside was the service logistics regarding the weather. It was a rainy day, and we were initially seated in an uncovered outdoor area. Luckily, the rain held off during our meal, and given how delicious the food was, it ended up being worth the risk!

Overall, a fantastic spot for fine dining in Sedona. I would definitely return for the flavors and the wine!

We are hard to please when it comes to a good filet as we make ours at home to perfection. This place didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend for the petit filet, the au gratin potatoes and haricots verts (tiny green beans). Love this place. Super amazing romantic old world feel atmosphere. (The brews start was amazing as well and forgot to take a pic after we got it but we included a pic after we had 3 slices 🙂

No doubt, the atmosphere is great and the food is good. Our waiter was also very attentive. However, the 3% credit card surcharge completely ruined the experience. This is not a taco stand—it’s a high-end restaurant where a bill can easily reach $200, yet they still nickel-and-dime customers over credit card processing fees.

For context, Visa and Mastercard typically charge merchants around 2.x% in processing fees, meaning the restaurant is likely profiting from this surcharge rather than simply covering costs.

I’m sure the owner makes enough to absorb the credit card fees, but instead chose to pass them on to customers—effectively ripping off tourists.

The food is good, but is it good enough to make me want to return knowing this is their practice? Absolutely not. You can find comparable food at any decent restaurant in most cities without being hit with hidden fees.

I recommend supporting restaurants that don’t impose this kind of surcharge.

Excellent, across the board! Service, quality and freshness of each of our dishes and the restaurant is quiet! You can hear your date or friends, with our raising your voice!
They had this out of this world lamb, delightful sea bass, oh and don’t miss the dessert. I hear fine dining in Sedona is rare. Well, you won’t be disappointed with this spot! Great wine list too.

Food is expensive and tastes above average. The front desk service is awful, arrogant, and possibly discriminatory. Despite the rain stopping for 30 minutes, Rene informed us they were fully booked at lunch and would need to wait for hours. We requested an outdoor seat, but they were unsure if they would set the table and had no room if it rained. While we spoke, the waiter continued setting up patio tables. We decided to take the risk and were seated within 10 minutes. The waiter provided good service throughout. The bill was $285.

Beautiful setting and a lovely server, but our experience was ultimately very disappointing and not family-friendly.

We came to René with our 2-year-old and were hoping for a special dinner. Our server was genuinely wonderful and the sea bass was excellent. Unfortunately, the positives ended there.

Our toddler became unusually fussy that evening (as toddlers sometimes are), and we were doing everything possible to manage it: stepping outside, soothing him, offering snacks, toys, books, constantly trying to keep him calm and avoid disrupting anyone. Despite that, a staff member came to our table and said, “You have to do something with the baby, this is a fine dining restaurant.”

We were very clearly already doing everything we could, and hearing that felt insensitive and unnecessarily chastising. What we needed in that moment was empathy or support, not a reprimand when we were already stressed and actively trying to handle the situation.

If René truly does not want young children in the dining room, that is their right, but it should be communicated upfront rather than making families feel unwelcome after they’re seated.

Food-wise, the sea bass was great, but the dry-aged bone-in New York strip was overly charred to the point that the bitterness overpowered the flavor of the meat.

Overall, between the way our situation was handled and the inconsistent food, this was not the experience we hoped for. Families with young children may want to think twice before booking.

My waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the specials. Unfortunately, his coworker was uptight and in a bad mood. When I took a phone call from my husband he aggressively tapped on my table and said “no phones/speakers in main dining” as if I were his own child. As I looked around I noticed they weren’t even following the dress code guidelines given they were serving individuals that appeared like they were straight off of a hike! This was done in poor taste and made me very uncomfortable, but I still wanted to give the food a chance. I ordered the lobster bisque and the only thing I liked about it was the lobster itself. The soup base was bland and watery. For my entree I had the scallop pasta. Once again, the scallops were okay but you can tell the pasta sauce was literally ONLY pesto and no seasoning. Also, the scallops were tougher than I prefer. My waiter decided to remove the soup without me asking which I appreciate and I gave him a great tip. Long story short – the food is not worth it and the restaurant is all hype.

Rene at Tlaquepaque in Sedona was an absolutely incredible dining experience from start to finish. The food was beautifully prepared, flavorful, and felt both elevated and authentic. We ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, which was perfectly cooked and honestly one of the best fish dishes we’ve had anywhere. The soufflé was incredible — light, rich, and absolutely worth it, so make sure to order it ahead of time because it takes a while to prepare. What truly made the night special, though, was our server Francisco. Francisco was attentive without being overbearing, warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. He gave thoughtful recommendations, made sure everything came out perfectly, and created such a welcoming, relaxed vibe at the table. You can tell he takes pride in his work and in the restaurant. If you’re lucky enough to have Francisco as your server, you’re in for a great night. We will absolutely be back.

My wife and I made reservations for our 30th anniversary. We were greeted by the host and seated at a lovely, quiet table. For our anniversary they had rose petals on the table and a card for us. Our waitress, Jessica, was wonderful. She was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine selections. Our food was fantastic, but I must say the service was incredible. This was a great choice for a special celebration. Thank you for a great experience.
