Cool interior and nice staff but a lot of the breakfast was odd, pancakes lacking flavor (IHOP better), hash was mushy, portions not quite in line with price and water in odd containers. Just fine for a diner in a state with tons of great diners, reflected in the number of patrons vs other establishments. Music was also loud and very odd for a diner.

Phoenix Diner
200 W Absecon Blvd
Absecon, New Jersey

I visited the Phoenix Diner around 12 o’clock and was seated by Haley, my waitress. Haley was kind, attentive, and the highlight of my visit. She explained the meaning of her face tattoo with a personal story, which really showed her warmth and character.

Unfortunately, the food and overall dining experience were very disappointing. I ordered eggs with cheddar cheese and onions, requesting them well done. What I received instead were undercooked eggs with runny whites and stringy yolk. When I sent them back, the chef simply reheated and re-plated the same eggs, adding more cheese on top. They were still undercooked and unappetizing. The bacon was extremely hard and crumbly, more like bacon bits than breakfast bacon.

While I was there, another table ordered hot chocolate, and when it was served, the cup had residue on it. The waitress admitted it was likely spilled coffee, but the customers were understandably uncomfortable and ended up leaving without eating.

The atmosphere also needs improvement. The diner had an unpleasant smell, and many of the booth cushions were ripped and in poor condition, making the place feel worn down.

The only saving grace of my visit was Haley, who truly did her best, and the cashier. When I explained that the food was inedible and even showed her the pictures, she refused to charge me for the meal and only rang me up for the coffee. I insisted on paying, but she was adamant. Because of their kindness, I left a $12 tip to Haley to make sure her excellent service was recognized.

Overall, the service from Haley and the cashier was commendable, but the food quality, kitchen standards, and overall cleanliness of the diner were unacceptable.

Authentic American Diner Experience!

The menu is extensive and has a variety of options. Accompanied with the retro diner decor, it’s a great spot to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The staff is friendly, and my server Dee was very polite.

I had a big breakfast: The Mexican Omelet with a side of Melon, and order of the tropical Crepes with A Hot Chocolate.

The Omelet was cooked to my liking, my only complaint is that the salsa spread on top was a bit cold.

The Crepes were delicious, I’d say they’re more of a dessert.

And the Hot Chocolate was rich tasting.

I’ll definitely come back for Lunch and Dinner, I saw some things on the menu I want to try.

They also have a large variety of baked goods.

I absolutely love the Phoenix Diner. I have been going there for over 25 years and the food continues to be consistent. It’s priced right and the plates are big. Great owner and family. They’ve been serving the community for as long as I can remember.

Was here for breakfast once and it was good. Lunch, however, was another story. Ordered turkey burger which came out with nothing else served with it or on top of it. Just the burger on a plate. It was paper thin, dry wuth with no seasoning. Wife had Thanksgiving wrap which was very wet and had no taste and presentation alone not very appetizing. Server didn’t even ask if we wanted a second cup of coffee. Very disappointing when spending $30 for lunch at a diner.
