The premises are great, yeah, a bit dated, but clean and the views from here are spectacular. It is an easy on & off place from the freeway in a not too congested part of town.
The service was spot on and the food that me and my buddy had was good. Seriously, there was nothing to complain about. And so to those who expected more from a chain restaurant, I don’t know what you were envisioning, but I think you’d have to recalibrate your expectations.
These folks did a great job with our food, efficient service and providing a good atmosphere. I’d definitely put this place on my regular rotation now that my friend introduced me to it.
So here’s a solid 4-star rating. Good luck Shari’s and my best hopes for your continued success.
The décor is very dated and the seating isn’t particularly comfortable. Overall, the food quality is average. Fortunately, the service was quite attentive. One highlight is their long opening hours — they stay open late, which is a plus.
We ordered:
1. Meatlover’s skillet – It looked like it had been left a little too long. Sausage and hashbrowns were burnt. With all the meats it was a little too salty for me. I only received 1 slice of toast and they cut it in half. Sourdough toast was nice and fluffy.
2. Small breakfast country fried steak – It was a good portion and country fried steak was crunchy. Gravy tasted sour.
3. Small breakfast denver omelette – My dad enjoyed this with the pancakes.
4. Orange juice – Tasted like it was watered down but it had some pulp.
Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience. My parents thought it was pretty reasonably priced. To me it was ok nothing special.
Service is great most of the time. Depends how busy they are. If it’s a full house, don’t expect amazing service. But when you go during the non peak hours, they are very attentive. I tend to drink a lot of water, so it’s nice when they refill it without me trying to flag someone down.
Atmosphere is nice. Very old school diner feel. Last time we were there, we noticed how bad the seats were in all the booths. They were ripped up and the cushions were spilling out. It was very unattractive and made us not want to sit by the windows. I hope they get them all fixed rather than putting red tape over it.
I had their Cinnamon Roll French Toast and it was so yummy, and so filling! You can get it on its own or as a breakfast combo, but it definitely filled me up on its own.
The other people in my party had a Meat Lover’s Skillet with Buttermilk Pancakes, a BYO Omelette with Stuffed Hash Browns and French Toast, and the Farmer’s Breakfast Combo – everyone enjoyed their meals.
There’s an all-you-can-eat ribs promotion at Shari’s on Thursdays $26. But with any AYCE, it needs variety. The ribs were OK but it got tedious after the first plate. It would have been nice if they provided different BBQ sauces to make it less repetitious. Service was excellent.
Updated review: 04/01/2022: One of the great things about Shari’s is, you can have breakfast for dinner. I had the $15 country fried steak and eggs, +$1 for loaded hash browns. It comes with french toast or pancakes. The food tasted fine. Service was slow as usual. I noticed they raised the price of the Fri-Sat prime rib by +$2. It no longer comes with a soup or salad, instead replaced by a dinner roll.
Updated 02/14/2022: Pro tip: At Shari’s, you can add an extra beef patty for $3. I believe they are 8oz patties. That is not necessary because I was really full from their single patty burger. My hangover burger $13 was awesome. This is probably one of the best burgers in San Bruno. It came with bacon, crispy hash browns, egg, lettuce, red onions, tomato. I added Swiss cheese +$1 and guacamole $1. Service is usually slow here. But still, this was a very good meal.
Updated 02/11/2022: Good times as always at Shari’s. We had the 3x 10 oz prime ribs $21 each (Fri-Sun only), cinnamon roll french toast $11 and prime rib dip $13. We didn’t order it though, but they have a Valentine’s weekend $30 meal for two that comes with pie. At dinner time, the restaurant was full with a short line. I’m thinking it was because of the slow kitchen. Our food took about half an hour to come out. Service was as expected for a full house.
Updated 10/20/2021: Heads up, free slice of pie on Wednesdays 4pm-10pm. Service was a little slow. We didn’t see our waiter until 15 minutes after we’ve been seated. The steaks were good though. I was surprised about the free slice of pie on Wednesday 4pm-10pm. We ended up taking it to go because we were so full.
Original review: Shari’s was not crowded at all at 6:30pm. We had the prime rib (available only after 4pm on Friday and the weekend) and a T-bone steak & eggs. They ran out of the regular steaks. Right after we ordered our prime ribs, it was no longer available as the party behind us tried to order it after seeing our meals. The 10oz prime rib meals come with either a salad or soup and two sides. We picked the baked potato (fully loaded), broccoli, fries (fully loaded) and spinach. It was a lot of food. The prime rib was not bad. It was slow cooked with an herb edge. The T-bone steak was great. Service was excellent and we tipped her 30+%.
