First time coming to this place. From the outside it looks like a creepy scene from Stranger Things. Inside felt like we jumped out of Doc Brown’s DeLorean and right into 1989. The place had an old wood smell and it was really cold. There was 2 small groups there, a young group of 3 and an older group of 3. The waitress was an older Asian lady and she was extremely kind and sweet. The food wasnt bad considering everything else. The food was also priced well. We wanted to get pie but wasnt sure how long its been sitting there. Would definitely be a place to go if I ever wanna do a Mob style meet up lol. But seriously, over it was cool.

I’ve been to a couple Shari’s locations, mostly up in the northern parts of California and have always had a positive experience and impression. This particular spot was no different and in fact, have not enjoyed a Shari’s more than this one location.

The premises are great, yeah, a bit dated, but clean and the views from here are spectacular. It is an easy on & off place from the freeway in a not too congested part of town.

The service was spot on and the food that me and my buddy had was good. Seriously, there was nothing to complain about. And so to those who expected more from a chain restaurant, I don’t know what you were envisioning, but I think you’d have to recalibrate your expectations.

These folks did a great job with our food, efficient service and providing a good atmosphere. I’d definitely put this place on my regular rotation now that my friend introduced me to it.

So here’s a solid 4-star rating. Good luck Shari’s and my best hopes for your continued success.

This restaurant is quite under the radar — I’ve lived in the area for ten years and never knew it existed. It follows a typical American diner setup with a limited menu. I tried the turkey club sandwich, which was decent. The prime rib dip lacked flavor and was underwhelming. The burger looked good, but I didn’t try it, so I can’t comment on the taste. Although beer is listed on the menu, it wasn’t actually available. The pies are said to be popular, but I didn’t try them this time, so the review isn’t complete.

The décor is very dated and the seating isn’t particularly comfortable. Overall, the food quality is average. Fortunately, the service was quite attentive. One highlight is their long opening hours — they stay open late, which is a plus.

I haven’t been here in a long time, today I went with my parents.  The place hasn’t changed at all.   Decor and dining area still looked the same.  Our waitress sat us within minutes.  It wasn’t too busy but it seemed like she was the only one working.

We ordered:

1.  Meatlover’s skillet – It looked like it had been left a little too long.   Sausage and hashbrowns were burnt.  With all the meats it was a little too salty for me.  I only received 1 slice of toast and they cut it in half.  Sourdough toast was nice and fluffy.

2.  Small breakfast country fried steak – It was a good portion and country fried steak was crunchy.   Gravy tasted sour.

3.  Small breakfast denver omelette – My dad enjoyed this with the pancakes.

4.  Orange juice – Tasted like it was watered down but it had some pulp.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience.  My parents thought it was pretty reasonably priced.  To me it was ok nothing special.

Food is always delicious, and not too expensive. If you go on Wednesdays, you get a free slice of pie with your meal. But remember, it might be busy. I tend to go on weekdays during brunch. A lot less people. If you sit by the windows, you get a nice view of the freeway and cemetery.

Service is great most of the time. Depends how busy they are. If it’s a full house, don’t expect amazing service. But when you go during the non peak hours, they are very attentive. I tend to drink a lot of water, so it’s nice when they refill it without me trying to flag someone down.

Atmosphere is nice. Very old school diner feel. Last time we were there, we noticed how bad the seats were in all the booths. They were ripped up and the cushions were spilling out. It was very unattractive and made us not want to sit by the windows. I hope they get them all fixed rather than putting red tape over it.

I recently went to Shari’s Cafe with a friend for brunch. We were pleasantly surprised how cute it was inside. We were seated at a booth near the window and had a great view. The staff were very friendly and very attentive. The prices were reasonable and the food was good. The pies looked delicious but we were too full to give them a try. We plan to go back again for dessert. I highly recommend Shari’s Cafe & Pies.

We had the Tbone special with the two sides, Mac and cheese and baked potato. All good. The steak was tender and tasty. It was enough for us to share. The pies looked so good. We took one to go. The crust was just right. The apples were fresh and not too sweet. You won’t be disappointed with going here. The prices are reasonable and there is plenty of food to share.

Enjoyed having breakfast at Shari’s in San Bruno. Clean restaurant and good service.

I had their Cinnamon Roll French Toast and it was so yummy, and so filling! You can get it on its own or as a breakfast combo, but it definitely filled me up on its own.

The other people in my party had a Meat Lover’s Skillet with Buttermilk Pancakes, a BYO Omelette with Stuffed Hash Browns and French Toast, and the Farmer’s Breakfast Combo – everyone enjoyed their meals.

Updated review: 07/13/2023:
There’s an all-you-can-eat ribs promotion at Shari’s on Thursdays $26. But with any AYCE, it needs variety. The ribs were OK but it got tedious after the first plate. It would have been nice if they provided different BBQ sauces to make it less repetitious. Service was excellent.
Updated review: 04/01/2022: One of the great things about Shari’s is, you can have breakfast for dinner. I had the $15 country fried steak and eggs, +$1 for loaded hash browns. It comes with french toast or pancakes. The food tasted fine. Service was slow as usual. I noticed they raised the price of the Fri-Sat prime rib by +$2. It no longer comes with a soup or salad, instead replaced by a dinner roll.

Updated 02/14/2022: Pro tip: At Shari’s, you can add an extra beef patty for $3. I believe they are 8oz patties. That is not necessary because I was really full from their single patty burger. My hangover burger $13 was awesome. This is probably one of the best burgers in San Bruno. It came with bacon, crispy hash browns, egg, lettuce, red onions, tomato. I added Swiss cheese +$1 and guacamole $1. Service is usually slow here. But still, this was a very good meal.

Updated 02/11/2022: Good times as always at Shari’s. We had the 3x 10 oz prime ribs $21 each (Fri-Sun only), cinnamon roll french toast $11 and prime rib dip $13. We didn’t order it though, but they have a Valentine’s weekend $30 meal for two that comes with pie. At dinner time, the restaurant was full with a short line. I’m thinking it was because of the slow kitchen. Our food took about half an hour to come out. Service was as expected for a full house.

Updated 10/20/2021: Heads up, free slice of pie on Wednesdays 4pm-10pm. Service was a little slow. We didn’t see our waiter until 15 minutes after we’ve been seated. The steaks were good though. I was surprised about the free slice of pie on Wednesday 4pm-10pm. We ended up taking it to go because we were so full.

Original review: Shari’s was not crowded at all at 6:30pm. We had the prime rib (available only after 4pm on Friday and the weekend) and a T-bone steak & eggs. They ran out of the regular steaks. Right after we ordered our prime ribs, it was no longer available as the party behind us tried to order it after seeing our meals. The 10oz prime rib meals come with either a salad or soup and two sides. We picked the baked potato (fully loaded), broccoli, fries (fully loaded) and spinach. It was a lot of food. The prime rib was not bad. It was slow cooked with an herb edge. The T-bone steak was great. Service was excellent and we tipped her 30+%.

We were hungry after a long drive, pulled in to try our luck. We felt like were were back in the 70’s. Decor-wise. We ordered broiled beef with veggies and mash potatoes and a small fish and chips. The meat a little tough, the fish were close to crispy but not the french fries. The pies loooked good but we did not feel like eating anymore.
