Amazing food options with quite the variety. We had the Pasta and Lamb, and lamb lollipops to start.

The atmosphere was exactly what you love to see while on the Northshore, rustic feel with local art displayed and a touch if nature. They weren’t lying about the view. Make a reservation and ask for a window seat.

Alice was our server and she made us feel right at home and answered all our questions.

Service lost a start because I called ahead and the automated system wouldn’t connect me with a person.

Of those places one thinks to oneself of, in thy way of sharing a light of beacon, that this may have just added a hint of joy to that long and treacherous road which is life — the New Scenic Café is one of those. Glorious food, impeccable ambiance, and phew what a view. Every time I am back in the states I come here to enjoy a fine meal shared with dear ones. Blessed now and blessed it shall remained. Happy birthday, soline.

Went with a friend last weekend and LOVED it. Sat in room that overlooks the lake but since we arrived shortly before closing it was too dark to see anything unfortunately. The service was nothing short of amazing….unfortunately I forgot his name but he was personable and very enthusiastic! When we asked him his option he gave us a rundown of the entire menu in detail (not too long) so we could make the best decision…definitely made the experience better!

We split:

1. For the life of me I can’t remember what the first one was (with the beef and leaf on top) – (4.5/5) BUT it delicious – wish it were a little bigger though

2. Swedish Meatballs – (4.5/5) – amazing

3. Chicken – (4/5) very tasty and the sauce was good (and I don’t like mushrooms so that’s saying a lot)

4. Brioche French Toast (1000000000/5) – If I ever go back to Duluth I’m going back because of this! No exaggeration to say one of the best desserts I’ve ever had and I have a massive sweet tooth. A couple walking out felt the need to tell us to get that dessert (unsolicited) and 2 guys sitting beside us also got it and seeing two grown men bouncing up and down in their seats while eating was enough to get me to try it…it was heavenly.

First dining experience here and it was fantastic! A beautiful drive up the shore from Duluth, a great spot just off the lake, lake/woods inspired decor, delicious menu with an array of entrées, nice wine and drink list, topped off with outstanding service. We will be back to sample more from the menu.

this place is definitely very foodie so don’t expect bacon and eggs! The menu is very unique and rotates seasonally as far as I can remember. The staff is very nice and the outdoor seating is lovely. I love going here even though I don’t get the chance to much, I recommend it to anyone with an open minded palate!

Scandinavian inspired, IKEA meets the woods. Service started out strong then became a little less thorough, not sure if they were stretched thin that night. I had the Rack of lamb and my friend had the game plate. I loved the lamb rack. The game plate was fun, venison, duck, Qual.
The 3% surcharge for credit cards is kind or ridiculous considering the price point and markup on beverages. The bonfire outside while you wait for a table is really nice.

This was probably the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in the past decade. My wife and I made a reservation for ourselves plus our 5-month old at new Scenic Café based on recommendations from friends and rave reviews on the Internet. Our experience was anything but rave.

Food. We ordered a few oysters on the half shell. The accompaniments on the plate were nice, but the oysters themselves were small and notably the least cold of any raw oyster I’ve ever been served. We also ordered the muscles at our waiters recommendation. The curry broth was fine, but rather one note with just curry flavor. The only dish that we thought was good and lived up to this restaurant’s fine dining aspirations was the plum, which was artfully plated and had fantastic textures. We had the Swedish meatballs that our waiter recommended and described as “ definitely better than IKEA”, which only invited the comparison and they honestly were quite similar. Finally, we had the miso Seabass, which was well prepared and tender. The accompaniment of seaweed, carrot and radish felt like an afterthought. The seaweed tasted the same as something you would get from a package.

Service. Our service was awful. Our waiter was boisterous with menu recommendations when we first sat down and then abandoned our table for at least 30 minutes while tending to a much larger table. He finally came back and took our order and there was a long wait for our appetizers to arrive, probably another 45 minutes. A while after we had finished the appetizers, we noticed the waiter walking our way and quickly wheel back around towards the kitchen. He came back about five minutes later to say that the kitchen hadn’t forgotten about us, and that our food was being worked done. We then waited at least another half hour. In the meantime, we watched entire courses be brought out to other tables. At this point, our waiter came by and did mention that dessert would be on the restaurant due to the delay. After waiting another 15 minutes, our food finally arrived as the last guests in the restaurant besides us left. Our waiter became more sparse by this point, presumedly avoiding us due to the awkwardness of the situation. At the end of the night, the waiter came by and amended his prior offer of dessert and suggested that he could send us home with a piece of cake to go, presumably because the kitchen had now closed as we were the only people left in the restaurant and they would not want to reopen it to make dessert. On reflection, there were multiple points, where I wish that our waiter would have realized that he was not providing proper service to our table and is inattentiveness was causing delays. I would typically expect that he would ask other staff to help or ask his manager for assistance.

Atmosphere. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, we were placed in a room with two other small tables and one table of approximately 20 people. Due to the small size of the room, this table was extremely loud. I don’t fault the patrons, but do you think that the restaurant should not have seated other guests in this room with such a large party there.

We are neither strangers to find dining nor are we frequently eating nice meals out. We really enjoy cooking for ourselves and love going to fine dining restaurants that we think are doing things better than we could accomplish at home, all well enjoying a level of service that makes the experience feel special. With regards to the food, New Scenic Cafe is not doing anything so innovative or special so as to make the food itself feel special or worth the high price that they are asking. I have been to plenty of other restaurants that disappoint somewhat on food and that is fine. However, I do hope for an experience and service that make up for what the food itself cannot accomplish. Unfortunately, this is where Scenic Cafe fell flat. What a disappointment and low point for an otherwise nice trip to the North Shore. Next time we’ll just stop at Culvers.

Wow! Outstanding food. Amazing service. So glad we picked the New Scenic Cafe to celebrate our anniversary! We had the deviled eggs, mussels, lobster roll, scallops and Bear chocolate cake. Best meal we’ve had dining out in awhile. Jolene was so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We highly recommend if you’re looking for something a little different and something with amazing food.

We used to come here once a year for a special occasion and always joked about needing to go to Taco Bell right after a $140 meal for how small of a portion you get. But at least the dishes delivered. These days all they have going for them is a beautiful space. The food is… bad. Cold, unseasoned, unsalted, with pretentious menu descriptions. Unfortunately, we don’t see any reason to go back.
