Heard so many goood things about this place and the chicken soup. IT WAS A COMPLET LET DOWN. The soup was bland and oily. Not sure how you make a soup oily but they accomplished it. I was looking forward to it as well and was so disappointed. We also had the roll tacos and carne asada fries and they were average at best. The salsa bar was the saddest salsa bar i have ever seen. That wasn’t the worst part. Here goes I was in need of facilities, and they did not let me use them for cleaning….the restaurant was empty and I asked to use either 1 and they did not let me use it, due to cleaning….I mean it was 2-3 pm and the whole spot was empty, come on….anyways im sure the bathroom are clean. The ladies in there were very rude and had an attitude about the whole thing. Well I will lot be returning, y’all can have it.

It is a small casual restaurant with cute images throughout, yes, dated, but best chicken soup. If you like a little spice, ask for spicy, it’s only .50 cents more but its not overly spicy that it burns and you can’t taste the food, unless you are sensitive to spicy food, just get regular soup, it’s flavorful both ways. The cashier is efficient and professional. My husband ordered the machaca breakfast plate, he loved the scrambled eggs with shredded beef.

$30 for 6 chicken rolled tacos……. I was charged extra for lettuce, sour cream and pico. Where’s all the extras you charged me for. And Carmen needs to fix her attitude.

It’s true, they do have the best chicken soup in town! The food is absolutely delicious! I was in town for a week and ate at Lourdes three separate times. They are deserving of high praise, and I recommend eating at this restaurant.

I just wished they add more chicken and less rice in the CHICKEN soup at $12.50 for 24 oz and $14.50 32 oz. It has a very small indoor dining area. It could use a remodel, it’s very old. This is the Escondido location.

Cashiers are stressed out they want you to order super quick or if you don’t hurry up they turn around and they start something else while you are standing there!. And I like to consume at places that provide restrooms because you never know when you need a resroom I like to sit down and eat. But guess what? they literally denied you from using the restroom by posting a sign on the restroom door “CLOSED FOR CLEANING” WOW THE RESTROOMS MIGHT BE THAT DIRTY THAT TAKES HOURS. DAYS TO CLEAN THEM. I prefer the Lourdes inside the shell gas station on El Norte parkway. The staff there are super welcoming and they make the BEST CHICKEN SOUP!! YOU CAN NEVER GET IT WRONG! I came to the Escondido location because I happened to be in the area. The chicken soup was missing the cilantro and onion got few small pieces of avocado.

We were very disappointed with this place. 🙁 We were deceived by the 1000+ good reviews. Started with overcooked stale chips. We love chips and salsa and our whole group of 7 wouldn’t eat them. All the food was very mediocre. The guac is soupy, tasted ok. Supreme quesadilla was so wet my son couldn’t even eat it. Chicken flautas were ok, but got soggy very quickly because of the wet guacamole and sour cream. Rice and beans were bland. Carne asada burrito was dripping grease. The corn tortillas on the tacos didn’t taste fresh and the corn tortillas they served with the Chile relleno were wet and mushy because they were sitting in a plastic bag. Chile rellenos egg batter had so much flour in it it made it thick and chewy. We will not be coming back. Our hunt for good Mexican food continues.

Honestly, I feel this place is overrated. Maybe at some point it was a phenomenal place to get good soup and tacos but it isn’t anymore. For $5 a taco you’re better off going somewhere else. I found every bite flavorless and I’m on a sodium reduced diet. If I can add flavor without sodium, this place should be able to do better.

I only had a beef taco it was just okay.
For $7.28 I think I should have gotten a bigger portion of meat.
I would have needed at least three tacos that fill me up about $22 for three tacos, I’ll just go to a restaurant for a decent meal.

I measure the quality of chicken soup by whether I will eat it when I’m not sick. I’d eat Lourdes’ “Chicken Soup” anytime, anywhere. I sometimes get excited when my wife or daughter gets a cold so I have an excuse to drive to Lourdes to pick some up. Yes, I’m a horrible, hungry human being.

Lourdes is a Mexican restaurant that has been operating in Escondido since 1988 by Hector Parra and his wife Lourdes (of course), who came to the region via their native northern Mexican state of Sonora. It is Lourdes’ sacred “Chicken Soup” recipe that has made this a must-visit restaurant. And, as good as it is, you won’t find it in Mexico: she took a family recipe for “chicken and potato soup” that she confesses to “American-izing” by replacing the potatoes with rice and adding avocados. Much of the rest of the menu consists of more authentic recipes she learned from her mother combined with concessions to San Diego County’s insatiable appetite for tacos, quesadillas, and burritos.

But that chicken soup is fantastic. It consists mainly of shredded chicken, tomatoes, sliced avocado, fresh chopped onions and cilantro. There is a hint of lime and celery flavor in the deep chicken-y broth, the latter of which bridges this to the Jewish-style chicken soup one craves when suffering through an upper respiratory infection. The crisp fresh onions and cilantro prevent it from straying too far from its Mexican origins. There is a mild amount of chile-induced spice, but you really can’t discern it when you’re eating, it just lingers ever-so-slightly on your palate. I like to crumble the complimentary corn tortilla chips into the soup to give it a “masa kick.”

Is this the “best chicken soup in town,” as painted on the outside wall of the restaurant? It’s the best I’ve had in Escondido, for sure – and the only better Mexican-style chicken soup I’ve had in San Diego County is at El Rincon in San Ysidro, nearly an hour drive from here, and a mere 15 minute walk from the Tijuana border crossing. In other words, this is absolutely fantastic fare for North County.

The “Chicken Rolled Tacos” (aka Chicken Taquitos) are also excellent — lots of juicy, shredded chicken rolled into each deep-fried tortilla, with an above-average ratio of meat-to-tortilla. The shells have a nice crunch to them, and are fried in clean oil with no off-flavors. Guacamole and melted shredded cheese on top of the rolled tacos keeps toppings to the essentials. The “Carnitas Tacos” feature delectable pork shoulder on soft corn tortillas of near average quality, with diced tomatoes, onions, and guacamole. It is about average for a SoCal carnitas taco. Stick to the chicken soup, and maybe the Chicken Rolled Tacos.
