Ramen with Purpose, Tea with Soul
いらっしゃいませ — and welcome to Nippon Cha’, one of Bayside’s most thoughtful and quietly distinctive Japanese dining experiences.
Since opening in 2016, Nippon Cha’ has taken a refreshingly different approach: ramen and Japanese comfort food built around premium tea culture. This isn’t a gimmick — it’s a philosophy, and it shows in every bowl.
The Ramen
The standout is the Tochucha Ramen, a bowl that feels both comforting and refined. The broth is clean, balanced, and deeply savory without being heavy — a welcome contrast to overly fatty tonkotsu styles. There’s clarity here. Each sip tastes intentional.
The noodles have proper bite, the toppings are thoughtfully portioned, and nothing overwhelms the bowl. This is ramen you finish feeling satisfied, not sluggish — a true reflection of Nippon Cha’s health-conscious Japanese approach.
Tea as the Foundation
What sets Nippon Cha’ apart is its seamless integration of top-grade Japanese tea, including top 10% Kyoto matcha sourced through Ujien Seicha in Japan. Tea isn’t an afterthought — it’s woven into the menu, from tea-infused donburi to tea sushi, enhancing flavor while keeping the experience light and clean.
Drinks & Desserts
The matcha drinks are exceptional — vibrant, earthy, and never overly sweet. And the matcha tiramisu deserves special mention: rich but balanced, indulgent without heaviness, and one of the better tea-based desserts you’ll find in Queens.
Atmosphere & Service
The space is calm, modern, and welcoming — a place where you can slow down and actually enjoy your meal. Service is warm and sincere, reflecting the Japanese hospitality ethos that defines the restaurant’s identity.
Final Verdict
Nippon Cha’ is more than a ramen shop — it’s a tea-driven Japanese dining experience rooted in quality, balance, and intention. In a neighborhood full of bold flavors and competition, Nippon Cha’ stands out by doing something rarer: staying true to its philosophy.
「美味しいと笑顔に出来る」— Delicious food brings smiles.
Nippon Cha’ lives up to that promise.
Highly recommended for:
Ramen lovers, tea enthusiasts, health-conscious diners, and anyone looking for authentic Japanese flavors done with care.
The place is very clean and the atmosphere is nice, a good place to go with a friend.
Stopped by Cha Nippon for a late lunch recently, and the quality was underwhelming for a restaurant with such high ratings.
Our group ordered a couple of chirashi bowls. The fish slices were thin and unremarkable, and the avocado was clearly past its prime. It didn’t feel particularly fresh or well-presented for the $35/$39 price point.
The biggest disappointment, though, was how overly sweet everything was. The curry udon was shockingly sweet — it tasted like sugar had been added by the spoonful, which completely threw off what should be a balanced curry. Even the chirashi came with a yuzu soy mixture that was heavily sweetened. It felt like every dish was a hidden sugar bomb.
Overall, the food felt inauthentic and mid-tier at best, especially considering the reputation. Definitely not worth it, and I wouldn’t return based on this experience.
