A Green Elephant Delight in Portsmouth, NH
My recent family visit to the Green Elephant in Portsmouth, NH was a great experience. From the moment we stepped in, we were impressed by the great vibe & ambience, which created a perfect atmosphere for a family dinner to celebrate birthday. A key highlight of the restaurant is its entirely vegetarian menu, which offers a creative and diverse selection of dishes. The service was excellent—attentive, friendly, and prompt throughout our meal.
We started with a couple of appetizers, the vegetable dumplings and Thai curry puffs, which were a welcome and tasty variation on vegan cuisine. For our main courses, we shared the basil fried rice, ginger Thai noodles, and panang curry. Each dish was well-prepared, flavorful, and satisfying.
Overall, the combination of great food, excellent service, and a pleasant atmosphere makes Green Elephant a standout spot. I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant for any vegan or vegetarian in the area looking for a top-notch dining experience.

July 2025: My husband and I were in Portsmouth, NH for one night and we were looking for a healthy dinner option and a few locals recommended dining at Green Elephant. One girl said the food was “so yummy” and after dining there, we have to agree!

We started with the Thai Curry Puffs, vegetable dumplings, and coconut soup.

The Thai curry puffs were so good! I loved the taste and texture of the flaky pastry shell. The vegetable dumplings were also a hit, although my husband wished they were served warm and not cold. The coconut soup was my favorite! Sooo flavorful, creamy, and it smelled amazing. If you like coconut milk, you have to order this soup!

For dinner we shared the Pad Thai and the Thai Ginger Noodles. Both were amazing and we liked to mixing them together. I asked for some spicy red sauce on the side to give the dishes that extra sweet and spicy kick.

Highly recommend!

Excellent vegetarian restaurant with a lot of choices.
Ambiance was great, busy but quiet for a Monday night.
We tried the Scallion Pancakes, Char Guay Teow, Chocolate Orange Mouse Pie, Mango Sorbet. All excellent.

Visited this restaurant during our family Fall foliage road trip. Highly recommend this for vegans/vegetarians! Took green curry and Pa-nang curry, they were both delicious. We like spicy food and green curry had the exact spice we were expecting. Their dumplings were equally delicious too!

Snowy night in Portsmouth and went to Green Elephant. Really nice people, excellent food, on point service. Green Elephant leans Asian fusion vegetarian but has a wide variety of options. It reminds me of higher end vegetarian restaurants in California with high quality food, preparation, and presentation. And really delicious dishes. Lots of Vegan options but I think anyone would enjoy this Vegetarian, Vegan, or not.

First time eating here and not impress with the food. I got the special vegetarian pho…… blandest pho I have ever had. Vegetables on top were huge chunks that I had to break apart and had no flavor. Tofu…no flavor. The broth was meh. It seems they just threw it together. Usually I would give a restaurant a second chance after a bad meal, not this place. **Special was 11/13/25. Also, server was nice but I noticed they didn’t ask why I didn’t eat 90% of my food and why I passed on a box to take it home….. maybe they knew the special was trash.**

This is my favourite restaurant ever. I think I come here too much. I have way too many pics because Green Elephant has taken over my camera roll. I’m addicted to the Thai Ginger Noodles. I think that’s all I need to say.

Vegetarians Paradise!!!

We went to Green Elephant restaurant today based on my son’s recommendation and the fact that all members of the family are vegetarians. This is a paradise if you are a vegetarian!!!

The dishes here are thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.

We started with Nightshade and Pomegranate Mojito for non alcoholic drinks, followed by Brussel Sprouts and Roti Chanai for appetizers, and Panang Curry and Singapore Noodles for main dish!! Even meat eaters will find the flavors satisfying and crave worthy because the flavors, atmosphere and friendly staff plus the location makes you feel good. Lovely place and will visit again!!!

We went here on 1/19. Our experience was surprising based on how good the reviews were – maybe the usual chef wasn’t in. Honestly, the food was pretty bad. We had the fried mushrooms, which were decent – crispy and hot, although a little underseasoned. We then had the Spicy Green Leaf salad, which was basically an iceberg lettuce house salad with chili sauce, like you might have on spring rolls. The tomatoes were soft and bad and some still had the leaves on them.

For entrees, we had a ginger stir-fried vegetable dish, which was a highlight, if only because it had some flavor to it, but it was still $20 for a plate of stir fried frozen vegetables.

We also had the “Hot and Sour Noodle Soup”, which was one of the blandest, least inspired dishes I have ever had at a restaurant. It was neither hot nor sour; it tasted like maybe someone had stirred it with a stick of lemongrass at some point. It was mostly a clear, flavorless broth full of noodles and the same questionable tomatoes from earlier.

Overall, I would recommend skipping Green Elephant.
