To be completely honest, I had very low expectations for this place, but the food completely blew the expectations.
This place has some of the best Tonkotsu Ramen I’ve ever tasted! The broth had a nice warm and creamy texture to it. They also have different selections of meat to add to your ramen (along with a no-meat option). The food definitely hit the spot since it was a cold outside with on-and-off rain when we visited.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of my bowl since I forgot to take one.
For pricing, it was definitely worth their menu price as the food was very high quality. Tax wasn’t an issue, but the Service Charge was 18% which was a little ridiculous but understandable considering the outstanding service. You can see our order in the image with our receipt below. After adding taxes and the service charge, it’ll probably be around $20 – 30 per person.
The atmosphere of this restaurant was also very nice. The layout felt very crammed since it was a small dining area, but they somehow made it work. Me and my friends were in a group of 8 people, and were sat on the chairs hugging the window. The decorations and lighting of the dining area felt cozy and welcoming.
Some final thoughts, this restaurant was definitely a highlight of our day, and me and my friends will definitely be visiting again sometime!
First things first, the parking in this area is terrible. Their lot is small and the streets are usually difficult because you’re in a commercial/residential area. By the time this place opens, street sweeping times should be done, but a lot of dumpsters are still in the way, so good luck on that part, but it is what it is in the area.
I was surprised it was as empty as it was when I got there at 12:30 on a Tuesday because this place is usually packed! The only thing I would say be careful for is if you get hot easily, don’t sit next to the glass divider because they boil the ramen right behind it and if it’s a hot day, that corner can be really uncomfortable. Also, the tables are shared, so there’s a chance that you’re going to sit next to a stranger if it’s busy. If you’re an introvert, to-go is a great option because they pack their food in a way that your ramen won’t get soggy in broth and sides are individually boxed.
They gave me a bowl of tsukemono (I believe it’s house made pickled cabbage, but I didn’t confirm). It’s sour, bitter, crunchy…it’s hard to describe, but give it a taste. I personally love it, my friend, not at all. I ordered the gyoza (which is always cooked to perfection) and has the best dipping sauce! The spam musubi, which is spam musubi. They don’t go crazy on sauce or anything fancy which I love; keep it classic. I also ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen and I always get the spicy on the side because it really builds up the more you eat. (It’s just a way for me to control the flavor and build up of spiciness). In the tonkatsu ramen, they give a generous amount of pork and toppings. They have a lot of additional toppings you can add.
On your table, you’ll also find a tray that has other ingredients for toppings such as chili, oil, sesame seeds, soy sauce and what I think is white pepper (unsure).
Service was really quick and they had great customer service. If you’re going to take food to go, make sure you’re really specific on how many boxes you want.
The chicken was so hard it was impossible to chew. The fried calamari wasn’t first freshness—it tasted like it had been warmed up, just like everything else on the plate.
What a complete waste of time and money. Avoid this place at all costs if you value decent ramen.
