I enjoyed my meal (brisket sandwich, mac & cheese, and beans). I wouldn’t say it was great but it was a good sandwich.
They are very expensive compared to other BBQ locations in the area. The prior ownership had similar prices, which is why I only went there once. The prices compare to a very established, tenured, and well known BBQ joint, which they are not yet. $22-$26 for a brisket sandwich combo (not including a drink) is way too expensive.
You can get just as good or even better (depending on your preference) BBQ with a combo meal (that includes a drink) for a better price just north of them.
I am assuming they do this because they are located in downtown Plymouth? I would recommend to Blue Kuna to drop your prices, gain credibility for a time, and then raise them accordingly.
Northern states have a tendency to have higher BBQ prices since it’s not a cultural commodity as it is in southern states. Supply & demand I guess. But it’s unfortunate people don’t realize they are paying way too much for BBQ only because there are only a few places in the Detroit area.
Until the prices drop, I personally won’t be coming back.
The two biggest complaints I had were,
1. The sauce. The flavor was FANTASTIC but the stinginess of it was outrageous. I got two little minuscule sample cups for my meal. I have never seen this from a barbecue place. Put the sauce on the table and let people go crazy. I am a firm believer that the sauce should be free but if it is not, you shouldn’t give people an eye droppers worth.
2. The coleslaw. I love a good coleslaw and this was inedible. It tasted like cabbage marinated in a gallon of apple cider vinegar overnight. I don’t know if there was a mistake in the batch or what but neither of us could take a bite without a grimace and a gag.
This sounds harsh but I think they are very close to being great. The location, service and atmosphere are great, it is a shame the food is subpar.
