The menu was on the pricey side – I think you’re paying for the ambiance! We enjoyed the decor and atmosphere. Bar service was fast and attentive. Great spots for groups, tourists, and hanging out in a trendy ambiance. Bathrooms were clean. Street parking available, walking distance to several other spots. Definitely a place I would visit again next time I’m in Atlanta for the whimsy/industrial decor and aesthetic!
I’ve been to Establishment on different occasions. The food and atmosphere are actually good, but the customer service and pricing are why I’m knocking stars off.
Word to the wise: be extremely specific and ask detailed questions here. Either common sense and server etiquette is lacking or necessary information is intentionally not being provided, and they are actively choosing the most cost-beneficial route for their “establishment” at the expense of their customers.
There has always been one minor inconvenience or negative experience with the service but nothing that stopped me from revisiting. However this last instance with the bill grated me.
I wasn’t too hungry last night when I went out to eat with friends, so I went with the $17 “Hot Girl Dinner” (deviled eggs, salad, and fries). I noticed the Chimichurri Steak Tacos were the same price, and since I love chimichurri steak but didn’t want the other things that are typically provided with a taco plate (tortillas, pico, lettuce etc) I decided that I was just going to request the meat on the side thinking that that they’d either reduce the price to account for the removed items or, at most, charge me the full $17 for the taco plate and just bring the meat out by itself. I would have been fine with either option. I asked the waitress—while pointing directly at the menu item—if I could get just the steak from the Chimichurri tacos. To her defense, she asked if I just wanted the “steak on the side,” and I said yes assuming she was double checking my request for just the taco meat. She placed the order with no further clarification.
Our orders come out in a decent time. The cocktails weren’t worth getting but I truly enjoyed the food. The deviled eggs and fries were unique and tasty. The salad was a bit underwhelming, but paired well with the steak strips. Overall I was happy with my order… until the bill came out.
They charged me $35 for the saucer plate of steak strips on top of the $17 for my main dish. Of course I bring this to our waitresses attention, being very clear with what my expectations were with my intended order, and asked if she would at the very least try to talk with her supervisor about adjusting the price to reflect the steak tacos. She returns to tell me they couldn’t adjust it because my order was placed as a “Side Steak,” which is a larger portion size than the steak included with the tacos. Mind you, none of this was disclosed when I ordered.
I remember thinking that I had a nice amount of steak slices. A saucer of around 8 medium length strips. It wasn’t a noticeably large portion or anything but it was more than what I expected and I figured the amount i was given was just their standard portion for the taco plate and didn’t think twice about it. I definitely felt duped and mislead.
There was no effort to offer a gesture or price reduction to accommodate the misunderstanding. And worse… I didn’t get to finish my steak! I didn’t register that she took the saucer when she was clearing our plates. I left 2 or 3 cuts (about a quarter of the whole dish) on my plate because, again, I wasn’t that hungry. But petty me couldn’t stop thinking about that 7ish U.S. American dollars worth of steak I didn’t have the chance to take home.
If I hadn’t been out with friends, I would have advocated for myself a bit harder, but I wasn’t going to ruin the night. I just paid the bill—automatic 20% gratuity and all—and left.
My only complaint was the drink refreshments weren’t the most timely and my soda was a bit flat. Minor details though to the overall experience!
Management was very communicative and involved in planning. David even hired a DJ for the event, making it extra fun and unique. He made recommendations and ensured we had ordered enough of everything.
Food and drinks were great, and we had positive feedback from party attendees.
Event space was perfect for our needs, and there was a high level of service from everyone on staff. We would recommend Establishment for any event you have in Atlanta!
