THIS is what I’ve been looking for. Savory, creamy, and packed full of flavor – amazingly delicious (and service was really nice)! The crawfish sauce I had here was really creamy and had nice pieces of crawfish pieces and the chicken my lord was amazing – moist, crispy and very packed with flavor. My fav thing was the bbq fish covered in this sauce with corn – soft fluffy fish packed to the brim with umami. This place is SO good!!

Amazing and a must try! Food was hot & fresh, the people were very nice and the owner is so friendly and wonderful. Tried a little bit of everything and it was all delicious. The Jambalaya Balls were soft and flavorful, wings in Skeesh sauce 10/10, gumbo was AWESOME & their fried foods were just so yummy. My whole family cleaned their plates and took some to go. 11/10 don’t miss out!

The sign on the outside wall proclaims Heard Dat Kitchen “New Orleans’ Best Hole in the Wall,” and can’t argue with that. The setup is geared toward take out (personal or the usual online delivery services), but we ate at the counter along an inside wall. We had the “Seafood Extravaganza” (fried fish and shrimp accompanied by french fries with a crawfish cream sauce) and “Dat Red Beans Plate” (blackened fish with red beans and rice, salad, and cornbread). Both were excellent, full of Louisiana spice without the seasonings overpowering the food. “Louisiana Cooking” magazine named Chef Jeff Heard one it is six “Chefs to Watch” in its September/October 2023 issue. Can’t argue with that, either. Chef came out and talked with us about how he wanted to cook for the public the way food is cooked in the homes. Great value for great food through the “hole in the wall.”

The blackened fish was absolutely delicious and worth a return trip. It was cooked perfectly, seasoned really deliciously, it was fresh and pipng hot, an immediate yes. That fish tasted like it was cooked with love.
Unfortunately, this day the red beans weren’t very flavorful, had clumpy rice and stale tasting dry cornbread. It did not give love or freshly prepared. I appreciated the lettuce & tomato salad but it was drowned in dressing. Get the fish!

Do yourself a favor and swing by this local spot. The food is EXACTLY what we were looking for. This is one of the most authentic creole restaurants we’ve come across in a long while. After a long cross country trip to Ohio and back to Houston this place hit the spot. We ordered the Bourbon Street Love and a side of beans and rice. Even as to-go it HIT. Fried chicken was flavorful and fried just right. Red beans, potato salad THE BOMB. You can tell the chef and his team are passionate about what they do here and the food makes you feel at home. The chef came out and spoke to us and we got to learn about him and the history of this spot. They are all so kind and we can’t wait to come back. 12/10 recommend.

So so good! Essence was the cashier that welcomed us in immediately and told us about places in the area. Made us feel very welcomed and attended to with intention. Food was FIRE! So good. And the chef came out and checked on us while we were outside. Definitely recommend.

Food and service is unmatched here. You can tell there’s a loving attention to detail with every dish. I did the fried fish platter and a side of the skeesh fries. The fish was crispy and well seasoned, potato salad and macaroni and cheese were filling and tasty. And the sauce on those fries were unique in a way where I wanted a jar of the stuff. Swing by here and get something to eat, you won’t regret it

Let me say this, the seasoning was good ( Dat dry rub ) BUT I didn’t get what I ordered, I ordered 6 wings, instead of 6 wings the gave me 3 wings and cut the drum off all of them to make it to 6….. not only did they do that the chicken it’s self was as small as the ranch container….. the ranch is hidden valley…. The fries was hard and soft barely any potato in them, they tasted old.

If you’re even considering it, just go! My family and I go EVERY VISIT to the city. Heard Dat Kitchen is a MUST!! Family owned, Tia is so sweet, she remembers us every time! ❤️ I can’t recommend Heard Dat Kitchen enough truly. 10/10 I’ve taken my pickiest family members and NO ONE has ever complained, ONLY said amazing things.
My son asks to lemon pepper for his fries, and Tia remembers every time! Those small details make our hearts SO happy. I mean, where else do you find that kind of family service?
•Outside seating is a must for us! We enjoy the weather. There is a small bar against a wall with some seating.
Burbouson Love, and the wings are our must haves!!
