Social Profile:

Ruam Mit started its humble beginnings as a family business in 1989. Since then, Ruam Mit has gone through many different changes over the years; including moving to its current location in 1996, growing from a restaurant with eleven tables to twenty, changing ownership, and even a slight name change. The only thing that hasn’t changed is that Ruam Mit Thai + Lao has always been owned and operated by family. We work very hard to provide fresh & delicious Thai & Lao food to our guests and strive for good service. All of our dishes and sauces are made to order in-house with our own family recipes. Come in before or after an event as we are nestled right in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. We serve lunch, dinner, and drinks!

Unassuming Thai eatery making traditional eats, including vegetarian & vegan items, spiced-to-order.

I’ve missed Ruam Mit Thai ever since they closed their last location, so I was thrilled to see them reopen! The new space is beautiful, and the food is just as amazing as I remembered so fresh, flavorful, authentic, and never disappointing. The service was excellent too. Our waiter took the time to chat with me about the new menu and even remembered an old favorite I used to order. My boyfriend is a tough critic, and even he was very impressed. It’s a bit on the spendy side, but absolutely worth it for the quality, flavor, and experience. I can’t wait to go back!

Our server Tyler was very knowledgeable on gluten free items at his restaurant. He was also very friendly and gave us good options for our meal. I had the Lunch special with two app orders of Gai Krob, Yum Woon Sen Salad, Gaeng Phet Gai Entree. I was assured they were all made with gluten free ingredients. The only item in question was the Gai Krob since it used same fryer as other gluten items. Normally this wouldn’t be a issue for me if fryer oil is changed out each night which I was assured happens here. I had a reaction with in the hour so either the Gai Krob is not gluten free or the fryer oil is not changed each day. So if you have celiac you should be cautious of fried food here.

Stopped in for lunch, definitely recommend if you’re looking for fresh Thai in a friendly, quiet atmosphere! Our server was kind and attentive. I ordered the Bung Bo, and my party shared spring rolls and wontons. The spring rolls were some of the best we’ve had. Bung Bo I ordered spicy and it was just right. We also enjoyed a side of pineapple fried rice. Pots of tea come with free refills, the Thai green tea was lovely!

Great experience. Very exciting to come here. First time visit at this new location. The old location was a lunch spot I frequented when working downtown St Paul. Love the steel water cups. Loved the Thai Tea. Wontons had a slight unique spice which was good. My signature Pad Thai was awesome as I remember from about 20 years ago. Peanuts served on the side of the entree which was nice. The stir-fried rice had a sweet flavor I’ve never experienced before, but of course, it was tasty. Looking forward to coming back with more people. Again, clean, friendly.

The menu has all of the staples and a ton of Thai dishes that I haven’t seen at other restaurants! I tried the Bahn Xeo and the Stuffed Chicken Wing. Both were fantastic! To drink I had two Pandan Sake Sours. I had two, so needless to say they were also pretty delicious. I’m looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu

Absolutely phenomenal Thai cuisine—fresh, vibrant, and bursting with flavor in every bite! I ordered #39 and #8, and both were unforgettable in their own way.

#39 was a masterpiece—perfectly balanced spices, rich aromatics, and fresh herbs that danced together in harmony. The textures were spot on: tender, crisp, and comforting all at once. It felt like a dish made with heart and precision.

#8 surprised me with its depth—bright, zesty notes with just the right kick of heat. Every bite had layers: sweet, savory, spicy, and that signature Thai tang that makes you instantly crave more. You could taste how fresh the ingredients were—nothing dull or overdone, just bold, clean flavors done right.

The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and welcoming, and the service was just as impressive as the food—friendly, attentive, and clearly proud of what they serve.

If you’re looking for authentic Thai food that sings with freshness and soul, this is the spot. I’ll definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu!

I’ll give this place a 3.5.
We tried the Thai tea, Oua Sikhai Gai(chicken patties), Pad See Ew and Banh Xeo.
The Thai tea was good, but on the sweeter side which is fine I drank it all.
The Oua Sikhai Gai were also on the sweeter side but it came with jeow piet(spicy dipping sauce) it definitely needed this. I wish we would have ordered sticky rice with it, it would have paired well. Overall with the jeow the dish was delicious! My favorite!
The Pad See Ew was made with thin rice noodles, you can sub for wide noodles for $2 more, our waitress did not mention this so we were surprised that it came with the thin noodles. Also this dish seemed very dry, not as saucy as we have had at other restaurants. Typically every time we order this dish it comes with the wide noodles so we were disappointed. Overall the taste was good, we might try this again and get the wide noodles and compare.
Lastly we tried the Banh Xeo, this was also not the typical banh Xeo we have had at other restaurants. The batter was so much thicker it was kinda like and omelet instead of a crepe, and you do have to pay extra for the meat, pork or shrimp not both. And the fish sauce dipping sauce was too sweet for my liking but again we did eat everything. The flavors were okay just slightly off.

Also tried the banana egg roll and ice cream. This was okay! I wish the banana was just fried and not in an eg g roll. Tried the toasted coconut ice cream and this was delicious.

Overall the food was okay and service was okay, they were a little slower probably because it was fathers day. But it was very friendly service. We would try this place again.

Ruam Mit Thai + Lao Cuisine is a great find in a convenient, central location in Saint Paul — easy to get to and perfect for a casual lunch or dinner out. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a clean, comfortable setup that makes you feel at ease right away.

Service was impressively fast and efficient, and the staff was polite and attentive without being overbearing. The food? Absolutely delicious. Flavors were bold and well-balanced — everything we tried was tasty and clearly made with care. Portion sizes were solid, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality.

Overall, a great spot that delivers on both flavor and experience. Definitely worth coming back for more.
