William Oliver’s Publick House

Social Profile:

We serve beer exclusively made in Colorado (most of our taps feature beer brewed within 20 miles of the pub), spirits crafted in Colorado, and whiskey from all over the world. Our menu is what you might call bacon-centric. We hand-cut thick slices of applewood smoked bacon and use it liberally on nearly everything. Wish you had more bacon? No problem, you can add bacon to everything on the menu. Including cocktails! If you aren’t a meat-eater don’t worry, we’ve still got you covered. We have several vegetarian and vegan options. Including our vegetarian red-bean chili made from scratch using an old family recipe.

Casual gastropub featuring local brews, whiskies & pork dishes in a convivial ambiance with a patio.

We arrived here around 1:15pm on a Saturday and had no problem getting seated. There weren’t many other people there so plenty of open tables. We opted to sit outside and were seated at a two person table in an area right out in front of the restaurant. It was clean and the side road is pretty quiet so no issues there. Our wait person, Michael, was very prompt and cordial and delivered drinks ( as well as our appetizer of pickled eggs & cajun chips) out to us very quickly. The pickled eggs were good and tasted like there was some chili pepper in the brine which did not make them hot but did give the eggs a chili pepper flavor which was pretty good.
We ordered the JGBLT and the Sweet & Spicy Pork Belly sandwiches which were both sooo good. The pork belly was cooked perfectly so that it melts in your mouth and then the brulee crust with the Sriracha feta slaw added an excellent balance to the sweetness. Such a good sandwich! The JGBLT was also very fresh and delicious. We just had kettle chips and a salad for sides which were good as well. We were very pleased with this location and would definitely come back here if in the area again.

I got “to go” from this place five years ago and ecstatic to say that the barbecue jackfruit sandwich is just as good as it ever was. Don’t sleep on the pickled eggs with Cajun chips they are phenomenal. My husband did the pint of bacon and piggy sandwich and loved them. Bartender was awesome.

Amanda, the bartender, was amazing and allowed me to craft my own Japanese whiskey old-fashioned with a crème brûlée topping. I’ll have to admit that her creation was better.

Solid local public house with a great tap list. I tried the Great Divide Hibernation Ale (strong but good) and the Ska Brewing Willie O’s Mexican Lager, which was light and refreshing. The Chicago dog and mac n’ cheese to go were tasty and very filling. It definitely has a “local” feel—the staff is very attentive to the regulars, which can make a newcomer feel a bit like an outsider, but it’s still a cool spot for a pint.

I like the atmosphere here. I’ve been several times and consider it a good choice in old Lafayette. The whiskey/whisky selection is enormous! As always, I wish the prices per pour were lower. It’s the price to pay to have a good place to hang out with friends and have my food and drink served to me by nice staff.

The Publick House is, by far, the best restaurant in Lafayette. Others come close if you’re craving other foods, but you really can’t beat the wonderful and simple food that William Oliver’s offers.

To start off- it’s a pretty simple location. It’s actually quite easy to miss with Teocalli having way more business just one street down. It’s got a lovely interior with lots of wood and a nice rooftop patio. Walking in, I wouldn’t think much of it.

The menu is relatively simple with some appetizers, salads, hot dogs, sandwiches, and some other things. Where this place shines is their bacon, and by extension their sandwiches.

Multiple people I’ve gone with have said the JGBLT is the best sandwich they’ve ever had. It’s certainly up there for me, just behind panino I’ve had in Italy. It’s nothing complicated, but each part of the sandwich is so well done that the finished product is understated and overwhelming. So good. It’s also the perfect portion, every time. It doesn’t seem to matter how hungry I am when I come in.

They have an excellent beer list with lots of things to choose from. The whiskey menu is absolutely insane, and the whiskey flights are necessary to digest it.

A small thing that is really nice- their sodas. It’s not just coca cola or Pepsi products- they have craft sodas, which are really excellent. Additionally, you can get their non alcoholic cocktails for the same price as just a soda, which is lovely.

The daily specials are always fantastic and a good way to get something unexpected.

I will be extremely sad when I have to move from Lafayette, as this restaurant is one of my favorites in the world.

The food here is so solid, every time I come! Especially their red chili jackfruit potato! Their drinks are also great! And the ambiance is wonderful — quiet, even when there’s a crowd, and a little dark! One of the top restaurants in Lafayette and surrounding areas!

During my first visit to Lafayette, we decided to give this place a try. I’m glad we did. This is a cute little restaurant with a patio in the front and a roof-top patio as well. It also had a bit of indoor seating and even a room that looked like it could be reserved for private events. We decided to sit outside and have a few drinks and try some apps. We ended up ordering the large soft pretzels & nachos for our items. They were delicious. The pretzel came out hot and soft and accompanied by both mustard & queso. We gabbled them down pretty quickly. As far as the nachos, they also had great flavor & and we finished them off quite fast as well. I do think the portion size of the nachos could have been bigger and had more toppings, but the quality was good, so it made up for the smaller portion. We would definitely go back if we were in the area.

Great place with plenty of beer and whiskey selections. The food was great. The portion size was perfect. Not too big or overloaded as you get with some places. It was just right. Highly recommended.

The food was ok here but not our favorite. The chairs and “booths” are just planks of wood and super uncomfortable. This place seems more geared towards drinking and they do have a ton of whiskeys. We had a chicago dog, chili cheese dog, potato salad, and the pretzels. The pretzels were pretty yummy and the hotdogs were ok. Everything was just ok. On the way out we saw somebody with the pork belly bites and they looked pretty yummy. May try them a different time but for pick up, I’ll never sit inside again on what could pass as park benches for their seating options.
