Raj found a quaint location snuggled off the Winfield Dunn Parkway that offered him plenty of parking among a small strip
of businesses. He put together a great staff and a varied menu.
He vowed to offer his diners numerous choices that could be customized to their liking. All entrees (except some seafood) come with your choice of beef, chicken, pork, tofu, extra vegetables, or added shrimp and other proteins. He tries to offer balanced meals, while allowing you to choose the heat. Mild, Medium, Hot, and very Thai Hot. There is also many vegan choices.
Thai Basil has special hours from 11AM until 3PM, at that point they close for all the employees to enjoy lunch, and reopen at 4:30 till closing for dinner.
I stopped in with the Mrs, for lunch and found many great affordable specials. I returned a week or so later for dinner where I had the Spicy Squid & Shrimp. My wife had Chicken & Shrimp Pad Thai. The portions are large so you get to have the leftovers the next day. We also had an appetizer combo of deep fried spring rolls and fried pot stickers. The fried Calamari is also excellent. There are many other spring roll appetizers and a house sampler.
Soups include lemongrass Tom Yum, Coconut Tom Kha, Shrimp Wonton and Tofu & Spinach soup. Entrees include many Noodle choices, Fried Rice choices, Seafood, Lots of Stir Fry offerings, Thai Curry and Salads. Desserts and inexpensive Kids Meals round out the menu.
Now is the perfect time to discover this gem of a restaurant. You’ll love the choices and wonderful Thai flavors. Oh, and before you go home let Raj know you had a great time. It’ll make his day.
The Thai dumplings surprised me too. Instead of the expected soft, airy filling, these were dense, meaty, almost like seasoned meatballs wrapped in a dumpling shell. Hearty and satisfying.
Drunken noodles were solid, great flavor and texture—but let’s talk spice. I ordered Thai hot. What arrived was closer to a mild-medium by Thai standards, maybe even American medium. If you like real heat, make it known. Say it more than once.
Fried rice was well done. Other rolls were solid. The house sweet and sour sauce? Clearly homemade. Bright, tangy, fresh—no syrupy bottled shortcut. Real care in the details.
I ordered the rainbow fried rice and wife ordered the drunken noodles. Both came out quick and the spice level was spot on.
Ingredients were fresh and the portion size was solid!
Can’t wait to go back and try some.of the other items on the menu.
I highly recommend the mango sticky rice for a perfectly balanced dessert!
The steamed dumplings were just right and the sauce was highly sophisticated in flavor for a small restaurant!
And of course I’m partial to pad Thai anyway but it was very good!
I highly recommend when you’re not in a hurry and want to just enjoy some good authentic food!
