We stopped in while visiting from out of town to catch a game. What a cool little neighborhood bar! The decor is old school sports bar. The service was friendly. The food was very good. We had specialty hotdogs, tots, and local beer. We had a great time watching the game and would return!

What a nice find. A fun neighborhood bar with good food and a great bartender! I ended up having the Lenten fish sandwich special which was catfish. I was worried it would be one of those awful patties out of a box but it was not – and it was delicious! I would have it again in a heartbeat. My bartender was Jeremy – what a great customer service oriented guy. I was really impressed, and it was a busy night. I will be back.

This was a fantastic local spot, within walking distance of the place we were staying in while visiting Grand Rapids.

From the TV screen that was dedicated to flipping through pictures of dogs, to the fun/interesting drink names that encouraged us to try something different, Blue Dog Tavern has more to offer than the “pub/bar food” you’d normally expect.

The Cajun chicken flatbread and poutin tots were absolutely incredible! Definitely a great venue to check out when you’re looking for a quick bite or a relaxing place to hang out for a bit!

wanted to get some take out and have eaten here before so i thought i would try it again. paid $17 for a meal and when I asked for a side sauce, the bartender informed me it would be a dollar. I know a dollar isn’t much…but when you’re already paying for the food? Come on. I confirmed that there was not already a sauce in the container and the bartender confirmed all sides are a dollar and no meal includes them. Management, if you’re really desperate for an extra dollar, just tack that onto the cost of the tots. Or perhaps they think their tots are just so damn good they don’t need a dipipng sauce? Absolutely ridiculous for a $17 meal at a pub. Spoiler alert, the burger was not even that good. Unseasoned patty with on a plain bun with cheese, bbq sauce, bacon…nothing special here.

Very nice stop for lunch! We sat out on the patio. All the food was great. I had the Onion Burger (and should have removed the top bun for the picture). Dogs are welcome and encouraged on the patio. Water bowls are available.

While the food didn’t take very long, most of it was cold, and had the texture of being done for a while. At our table we had 2 fish- both of which were ice cold; two were chicken dishes, in which the chicken was fried and completely dry. The Mac and cheese was not worth the 4$ price- as it was barely half a cup. The kids meals were fine, the tots being the left out texture. We were hungry so we ate- but the area was so loud we could barely hear each other next to each other(not just the boisterous guests- the music was insanely loud). We were not given water refills and the staff only visited tables when folks walked in or needed the check. I had a dirty place setting after waiting 30 minutes for a table, and I used a kids meal to cover because I could not get the attention of staff. Would not recommend for a meal.

My boyfriend and I went there for the first time yesterday and even with them being packed we were able to get a seat at the bar right away. For an app we got the tot of the month which happened to be the “famous bowl tot” which was phenomenal! I ended up getting the patty melt and my boyfriend got the J Dawg burger which we highly recommend both!! Also tried the Honolulu Blueberry lemonade (alcoholic) although it was strong it was very delicious! Fast great service and great prices for some amazing food!

Great burgers, a passion for tater tots, and good dogs.

– Stocking Street Burger: It is your average burger, but done right. Ordered medium with American Cheese. It was juicy good. The toppings were well balanced. It did not fall apart. The bun complimented well.

– J-Dawg Burger: This was my favorite, but it had a minor flaw of falling apart. Ordered medium and it was medium.

The burger patty was stuffed with toppings and sauce, a new trend I am liking. I’ve always been concerned if they fell apart and this was an example of one that does. A third of the burger fell out the back about two to three bites in. I put it back, but bummer.

But that was the only flaw. They put a lot of thought into this burger and the taste was amazing and balanced just right. The burger patty was SUPER juicy good. The pretzel bun was a great decision on their part and really made it stand out well.

– The Cooper: Basic chili cheese dog, but with really good cheese sauce. It was a little better quality beef dog and slightly bigger. The chili was a little above average. The cheese sauce, like with the J-Dawg Burger, is amazing!

If you like hot dogs, you’ll like this place. Get two dogs and tater tots or fries are free!

– Curry Tots: A monthly special that is only available for this month (August 2024).

I believe they mainly added a curry spice to a mayo (don’t quote me on that, it might not be mayo). The grilled chicken was there, but the onion, red peppers, jalapeño, and cilantro were minor nuances, which were disappointing. A lot of the topping was on top only. The lower 80% didn’t have toppings except the left over.

It didn’t seem as well thought out as a concept. That said, it was still delicious because I do like a little kick.

– Poutine Tots: A regular menu item and it was delicious! The ingredients were well mixed in and well balanced (better than the Curry Tots).

The egg was a great addition. The pork was a great addition. The cheese was stringy good. The gravy is the best part (it is made with flour, so gluten-free beware).

– Tots (general): The bowl is small compared with the amount you get. It makes the dish look great, but it becomes a little difficult to manage if you want to mix in the toppings. The tots seemed fairly plain. Better than you’d get at the store, but not significantly enough to justify the price. Maybe ours were just a bit overcooked, but the inside should be a little fluffier and lighter. Again, I did enjoy the tots overall, but there’s still a bit of room for improvement.

– Chips: Like most pubs. No one seems to make good house made chips. Maybe it’s me.

– Fries: An extra $3 and worth it. Delicious. Nothing special. Just done right. Thin cut, warm to the end, fluffy center, good medium crunchy outside, but a bit salty (like many restaurants).

– Service: Waitress was all business, but pleasant. We seated ourselves, were met with immediately, and she made sure we were taken care of and anticipated our needs.

The food came relatively quickly without delays and was spot on right. I need a lot of water and though I usually ask for two, having only one was not a problem since she always made sure it was full.

– Atmosphere: A little more polished for the neighborhood, but not overly. You can walk in with jeans or a suit and fit in.

The emphasis on dogs is a little refreshing. I am not a dog person, but I can appreciate it to a degree. I think if you are a dog person, you’d LOVE this place.

– Monthly tots special: I think this is what makes Blue Dog Tavern special and what really attracted me to this place. I watched them on Facebook for a few months and saw a couple of fun ones. I mentioned the Curry Tots a friend of mine who shares my appreciation for curry and he insisted we get there to try it. I thought the monthly tots were simpler and less thought out than I saw on Facebook, but I’ve only tried one. The regular tot options look more well thought out and fuller.

Visited Wednesday 4:15-5:45 PM. Their menu on the website is current.

The food is so amazing, and this was my
second trip back. Although this trip made me not want to return due to the service I received. Two of my girlfriends and I decided to stop in for lunch again because we loved it the first time and when we sat down we were greeted with almost no hospitality, despite it not being very busy (only one server if busy would make sense for a short tone). When we ordered we had said we wanted split checks and she said that was ok. When it came time for my friend to order she ordered a burger and had requested pickles on the side. We were then told that “they don’t have pickles, only spicy pickles.” Which was weird for us to hear because the last time we visited we were served sliced pickles on the side in a cup. We agreed to the spicy pickles because there was no indication that said “spicy pickles” were not simply spicy pickles, but an appetizer size of breaded pickle spears. When they were brought out we said oh no we just wanted a side of pickles and she said “no I wrote it down.” I can understand that there could be miscommunication but i’m confused as to who would think just “spicy pickles” would mean deep fried? Not to mention I ordered a side salad and it proceeded to never come out after my friends had been eating their burgers, and I had asked her to remove it from my check because well I didn’t get it nor did I want it at that point. Honestly this was just really upsetting because when we went the first time our server was absolutely amazing and so sweet and that was definitely not what we were met with today.
It was yesterday Monday the 5th around 2/3 pm it was a women who waited on us.
