Social Profile:

Since we first opened in 1999, Monsoon has always been about marrying Vietnamese tradition to modern innovation using fresh, local ingredients from the Pacific Northwest. These recipes are from our family, from Saigon. But they are elevated and inspired by the bounty of our region. We use small farms wherever possible, we source local seafood, and we make everything by hand. We opened Monsoon because, at the time, there was nothing like it in the Pacific Northwest. Sure, we wanted this food for ourselves, but more than that, we were excited to share it with everyone. The rest is history…

Stylish Vietnamese eatery offering contemporary dishes, such as its signature clay-pot catfish.

I would 100% recommend Monsoon! We made a reservation, although maybe not needed for a Wednesday evening. Street parking on 19th.

Service: we were sat right away! Our waiter was great, personable, and knowledgeable on the menu, including their seasonal options. Lighting is perfect and dimmed as the night progressed.

Food: everything was 10/10 no notes! Everything is seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection! If you like garlic, this is the place! I would recommend expanding the desert menu (only two items on the menu).

Food ordered: crispy imperial rolls, pork spare ribs, brussel sprouts, shaking beef tenderloin, seafood fried rice, and banana loaf with a coconut creme.

Monsoon is one of those Seattle restaurants that manages to feel timeless. Set along 19th Avenue East, it blends Vietnamese traditions with the kind of quiet confidence you only find in places that know exactly who they are. The soft lighting, wood interiors, and gentle hum of conversation give it a calm, elevated energy — the kind of dining room that feels good the moment you sit down.

The Food
Monsoon’s menu is a celebration of balance — bold flavors delivered with refinement. Dishes are rooted in Vietnamese cuisine but expressed through a Pacific Northwest lens, using fresh, local ingredients that let each plate feel both familiar and new. The flavors are clean, layered, and deeply satisfying without ever feeling heavy.

Service & Atmosphere
Service is polished but approachable. Staff move with quiet confidence, ready to recommend a pairing or explain the inspiration behind a dish. The pace of the meal feels natural — unhurried but never slow. The atmosphere shifts beautifully from a relaxed lunch spot to an intimate dinner destination as the day goes on.

More Details
• Vegetarian options: Several well-composed vegetarian and vegan-friendly dishes; the kitchen is accommodating with substitutions.
• Dietary restrictions: Staff are knowledgeable and careful with allergens or spice adjustments; gluten-free diners are well supported.
• Parking: Street parking is available along 19th Avenue East; it can fill up during dinner hours, so arriving early helps.
• Kid-friendliness: Family-friendly during lunch and early dinner hours; evenings lean more adult-oriented and refined.
• Wheelchair accessibility: Ground-level entry, spacious layout, and accessible restrooms.

Final Take
Monsoon captures the essence of modern Vietnamese dining in Seattle — thoughtful, elegant, and full of flavor. Five stars for its consistency, atmosphere, and the way it makes every meal feel like an occasion.

✨ Rooftop secrets, Saigon Crab cravings, and the waiter who changed everything ✨

Monsoon has always been a favorite — Bellevue set the bar high for service, and Seattle keeps me coming back for the food. The Saigon Dungeness Crab with garlic noodles and spicy green beans are unbeatable, and my new obsession? The Sayulita cocktail — chili & hibiscus-infused tequila, fresh lime, cilantro, and house pomegranate grenadine. A glass of liquid art.

But here’s the real MVP: Arrow. Ask for him. His patience, timing, and genuine warmth made me feel seen and reminded me what hospitality should feel like. Service this good is rare in Seattle, and it turned my night into something unforgettable.

Oh, and did you know Monsoon Seattle has a rooftop? Perfect for quiet conversations, city views, and that tucked-away vibe you can’t put a price on. Pro tip: Tuesdays & Thursdays = half-price wine night .

Monsoon Seattle – Capitol Hill
Modern Vietnamese meets Pacific Northwest flavor
Must-try: Saigon Crab, Spicy Green Beans
Cocktail pick: Sayulita
✨ Service tip: Ask for Arrow

Very relaxed atmosphere, food was delicious and served by friendly staff, very handy for a quick and tasty dinner. Crab pot options are very good food comes piping hot and stays hot.

Our favorite was the ‘papaya salad’ and the ‘Bo La Lot’!
Salad had a good amount of fresh herbs which I love and the papaya was shredded well to pick up the sauce it’s mixed in. ‘Bo La Lot’ was flavorful and the jicama added such a great texture element; both 10/10!
We also ordered ‘Lemongrass Tofu’, ‘Catfish Claypot’, & ‘Drunken Chicken’ with a side of ‘jasmine rice’, highly recommend the rice if you’re ordering any of dishes as the flavor and sauces on these dishes are rich and covers each piece of protein heavily.
‘Catfish Claypot’ is cooked in a black pepper sauce and I would say the pepper flavor is pretty powerful, which I like; the catfish was overall cooked nicely.
We thought the ‘drunken chicken’ was good but not our favorite, more like a sweet and sour chicken which wasn’t what we expected.
I also had ‘Holding Onto Summer’ cocktail, delicious and bright! Matched well with the dishes I ordered and served as a palate cleanser for me.
We had 3 adults – 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and a side of rice was a perfect amount for us!
Service and atmosphere 5/5.

I miss the old Monsoon, also near Madison. Its atmosphere was both more inviting and more elegant. But this one has a surprising amount of space to accommodate. They seem to be able to get us in when we’ve gone, though it’s been admittedly just before the usual dinner rush. Food in absolutely great, and reasonably priced. It’s the quality of fine dining, but at a slightly more approachable price point. They have great portions, great spice, innovate recipes that aren’t pretentious. And the service is equally welcoming and unpretentious. I’m grateful to have this wonderful restaurant still around.

Only remembered to take pics of the drinks but not the food. Drinks are good. Food wise, don’t expect traditional Vietnamese food, more fusion Chinese. Portions are smallish but come out quick for the most part. Seating outside and in, very brisk at 7-8 slot.

Incredible food experience where every bite felt unique and full of flavor. Each dish came out quick but the waiter was a bit slow. The wine selection could be expanded but overall 10/10 experience and can’t wait to go back again.

Excellent meal and a pleasant environment. The menu is innovative, not your standard Thai or Vietnamese fare. We really enjoyed their dishes. Would recommend getting a reservation, otherwise you may get a table, or may have to wait a while. FYI the price reflects a premium dining experience.

I came in around 6 PM on Thursday after a long day of work, looking forward to trying your restaurant. The place was about half empty, yet I was only offered a seat at the bar or at the counter. When I politely asked if I could sit at one of the available two-person tables, the kid at the counter with a funny haircut refused.

With plenty of open tables, being directed only to the least comfortable seating options felt unwelcoming and disappointing. I ended up leaving and going elsewhere.

I hope you consider retraining staff to be more flexible and accommodating when space allows. Experiences like this can easily cost you returning customers.
