We went to eat there for lunch today around 2 pm. The restaurant was practically empty. As soon as we walked in it was smoky and I started gagging and choking. That set the tone for a difficult experience. The waitress had a language barrier. She hardly understood what we were saying. She also was watching someone’s children, maybe hers, at another table in the dining room. The food was just ok. Nothing monumental. I have been here before but not for awhile. The food was nothing like Mexican restaurants in California. There is a definite difference. Lack of flavor and spices. I doubt if I will ever return here again.

It has been over a decade since the super fajita burrito was actually 20 inches long.
Yet, for some reason even though it keeps shrinking in actual size and raising in price, the menu never gets updated on its length. It still claims 20 inches. That’s dishonest. You can’t claim oversight when it’s been so long.
About ten years ago I think it was closer to 16. You’d probably have to go back 13 to 15 years for the burrito to actually measure up to what is claimed in the menu. Now it is less than 14 inches. FYI, the last inch or so on one end was empty tortilla shell.
And you only get two little containers (glorified thimbles) of hot sauce with their mythical 20 inch burrito. If you ask for more, you’ll get one more of each. Why so stingy with the sauce?

This is my favorite Mexican place in Pocatello and actually in all of Idaho. It is so so so so so good and have the best margaritas, carne asada fries, spicy pork tacos and burritos, and the best chips and salsa. Like I’m litterly drooling while writing this. The service is beyond exquisite and the staff members are always so kind.

Has a doordash driver I picked up an order for delivery here and upon entrance the food smelled so great I had to bring the family for dinner. The service is incredible, the atmosphere is very nice!

This at this point is my most recommend Medical restaurant in Pocatello!!!

I’ve been dining at Herradero for nearly 20 years, now. They have 2 locations in Pocatello, and I have never really cared which location I eat at (it just came down to which was more convenient). However, I will give it a year or two before returning to their Jefferson location.
A restaurant’s staff is a direct reflection of the type of quality you can expect from their business. As restaurant staff is always evolving, so too is the quality of any restaurant. This is why I hope to return to this location in the future (for convenience sake). With that being said I hope it is clear that the reason my family and I will NOT be returning is because of the current staff at the Jefferson Ave location.
The cooks: They do alright. The quality is “pretty good” in my opinion. I’ve lived in East Idaho my entire life so I know what to expect from local “authentic” Mexican cuisine. However, my wife finding a long female hair in her fajitas really killed it for her. But me, like I said, I am a 20 year returning customer to Herradero… I told my wife it would take a lot more than a hair in a random meal to turn me off to it.
It took a month and 4 family visits to come to the decision that we won’t be back until the staffing problems are changed. The problem here isn’t the cooks (though my wife may argue that point), the problem is the hosting.
My family and I showed up one visit at 8:15pm to dine-in, but were told by the female hostess that we could not dine-in because they closed at 9 pm. That’s still 45 minutes… The next time we made it in at 7:45 pm, and she immediately acted put out, and they already had many chairs upside down on tables. The hostess stood about 10 feet away from us during our entire meal while “shushing” her babies who were screaming and crying the whole time. During our latest visit the hostess’s children were there (as they seem to be every night), and as usual she was far too distracted to properly serve a table. So she sat us down to tend to her children as a male host took our drink orders. Then a third host (but it was a cook from the kitchen) brought our food, but my order wasn’t correct so we had to wade through the language barrier to awkwardly get it corrected. All they had to do was give us a consistent host to avoid the entire issue, but the rude female host has been too busy tending to her children to serve a customer… For over a month now.
We will be back… When a new wave of competent servers take the current regime’s place.

I’ve been going to this el heroderro location for years and lately the food quality has really gone down on some of their entree’s. You can tell they are trying to cut costs and save money by the taste and smell of the usual dishes. I’m actually enjoying the food at cafe rio better!

Love it! This place is the right combination of everything. Delicious fajitas. No blasting music. Quick service in spite of being busy. They brought us extra tortillas and sour cream, free of charge. Thank you to RadioShack for recommending El Herradero.
